Hundreds of churumuri readers from across the globe have called and emailed to say they couldn't access their favourite Mysore blog for several hours yesterday.
Please be assured the problem wasn't at our end. There was a major problem at worldpress.com which has thankfully been rectified by their worthy soldiers.
As Doordarshan used to say two decades ago whenever the signal went off, 'rukawat ke liye khed hai'.
Churumuri is now open. Savour it. Leave a comment in the comment box. Or email us at citizenkane@rediffmail.com or raoulduke@rediffmail.com
VASUKI BELAVADI writes from Hyderabad: It’s a fact that in Dr Raj Kumar’s demise, “Sandalwood” (as Hamsalekha would want to call the Kannada film industry!) has lost one of its finest actors, a thorough gentleman and more so a fine human being.
But in the post-Raj Kumar era, Sandalwood will hopefully emerge out the cocoon of regional parochialism and produce movies that people in the other southern States would also want to see.
Hopefully, it will also refrain from demanding stupid things like banning non-Kannada movies and so on.
All said and done, more than one Kannadiga will agree that merely preventing non-Kannada movies from being screened has not improved the sad state of Sandalwood, partly because of the ‘monopolistic tendencies in terms of linguistic and regionalistic ideologies’ that Annavru’s family had over such issues.
More than one Kannadiga will acknowledge with pride that Annavru did not act in other language films like most of his counterparts did. But, for all the ranting about Kannadiganess that his family and fans indulged in, most of his heroines post-’80s were non-Kannadigas.
Why, we must ask, couldn’t Annavru’s later films find talented heroines in Karnataka? Why Madhavi and Jaya Prada?
Noticed Your Blog on the Top Lists and just dropped in. …
I know what a scary thought… I thought I lost everything. Those guys over at wordpress did good though and got it back up
Yo Vasuki, I don’t agree with you on holding Rajkumar responsibile for the parochialism of Kannada film industry. It’s a much bigger malaise and actually, I would argue that a number of Rajkumar films in fact offer a robust conception of a self confident Kannada community, which isn’t anxious about outside aggressors.
But like you, I also hope that Kannada film industry will find a creative spark somewhere and produce movies that southern (and northern) people would want to see.
And yeah, since the early 80s all the heroines were outsiders but why you got to be dissing Madhavi and Jaya Prada?
CES, we can’t thank wordpress enough. In their own way, they have shown us all there is life after near-death!
When the light went out of our lives for a few hours last night, Tony said something profound: “Blogs are temporary, Dogs are permanent.”
Sakkat blog – I have been around for so long, but have never found this before!
In Hindi, there is a saying “Jab Samunder Mein Tufan Ane Wala Hota Hai To Leherein Tham Jaati Hain.” (Before the begining of the storm, the sea waves comes to a halt.)
Congratulations for becoming the top hot blog!
Churumuri shows the promise of becoming the “the favourite source of Sihi and Spicy informations.”
Wish Churmuri keeps on making waves, bigger than ever.
Ravi Jain writes from Hyderabad: Congrats. Just saw the blog. It is interesting and reminds me of Totapuri and churmuri of our school days.
Would be very intersting to obtain a copy of all the journalists in Blore who are site journos and siteless journos. I mean those who have sites gifted by the CMs and those who dont have sites, there is a lawyer in blore who has a copy of these he obtained under the RTI.
Makes interesting reading. But do u think u could do this or ur blog will go for a six.
