Churumuri is proud to introduce a stellar new contributor: G. SATYANARAYANA. Editor of Samachar, the legendary evening newspaper that is now sadly defunct, Satya brings decades of journalism experience and a refined sense of civic consciousness.
Click on the GOURI SATYA page on the top-right of the screen to read his first piece, “12 Steps to a Magnificent Mysore”. Among his suggestions: a miniature Heritage City at the foothills of the Chamundi showcasing our homes, palaces, food—our past!
Don’t just read. Come back here and add to the suggestions or to comment on them. Be the change you want to see.
the article is interesting.Only journalists of long standing calibre can write this kind of articles. But this would have been much more interesting if it is penned in KannaDA language. Why dont you start a kannada blog.

Indeed it is interesting and worthwhile suggestions from Satya. Every step he has outlined was given a thought by the city’s prominent personalities at various instances of time which Satya as one of the prominent person and a senior journalist in Mysore is aware of. But due to lack of vision of the majority population, nothing has blossomed.
Multi-storied parking lot. Jayadevraj Urs, Irani and my dad had got a master plan done to strengthen the Devaraja Market and build a 2 and 3 floor parking lot. Way back in 1977
There is a corporation decision which was passed in 1960’s when S. Linganna was the municipal president to link all lakes and to reclaim unauthorized land. How has never been implemented.
Perhaps the first one to be thought of, by the corporation to decongest Devaraja Market was the Maurya Complex at the erstwhile Ganesha Takies building. It is in legal tangle.
It was the vision of late Irani to have a miniature park which came up near the Zoo opp. CoP office. It is in a sorry state of affair with absolutely no maintenance.
Creating a brand Mysore is caught in ego’s of two prominent trade bodies. Late Devaraja Urs I remember had a great dream for Mysore when he allotted the land for the Dasara Exhibition; he wanted to make it a truly international event.
Mysore already has a Food Estate next to Arasikere railway line behind Vikrant (now JK) Tires. But none of them are in that line due to the hardship faced by them from all quarters.
On other issues the reason the corporation or the administration that be is not interested is that the so called ‘City Fathers’ are interested only in the next election and how to make money to fight it. They have vision, commitment or an urge. It would have been better we had just an administrator like we had earlier than this elected body.
The kind of planning the Maharaja’s men did for the city is exemplary. Just an eg. The road from Ramaswamy Circle in front of Maharaj’s Hostel is so wide with equally wide footpath and rain trees – Planned way back in 30’s and 40’s. Cross the circle and Chamaraja Boulevard you will feel the 2003 urban planning – the under bridge, the road is narrow and water stagnation during rainy days. So much for the urban planning and Democracy v/s Monarchy. (I am afraid to take sides in the ongoing tussle in Nepal on this issue)
shanks
yeah, i completely agree with Satya’s suggestion but wud like to ad more comments on that is
In the recent past the commissioner of MUDA mr.Pankaj KUmar Panday has taken few steps in promoting mysore and given a good & transparent administration. If the officers like him shall be included in local bodies to improve the city with innovative ideas.
Gouri Satya clarifies: ‘Samachar’ is alive in a way! It is there on the web under MysoreSamachar! Take a look, when you have time.
