Last night, a friend, a patron of art, sent me a message informing me about Karim Khan’s indisposition. Krishna Prasad was kind enough to relay the message through Churumuri. A while ago, former colleague Chetan Krishnaswamy called me from Delhi to know how he could help the ailing lyricist. I didn’t know what to do as the initiative to help is somebody else’s. I got back to my friend to find out how to accommodate Chetan’s gesture. He said he had requested some 20 others to rise to the occasion (as our Great Government had remained indifferent to the situation), without realising how to reach resources thus mobilised to the family of the ailing artist. So, I called up Sadashiva Shenoy, General Secretary of the Press Club of Bangalore, if the club would take up responsibility. It is after all ideal that an organisation shoulder such sensitive responsibility. He said the family may be in need of help, but it is too full of self-pride to accept any assistance. I have requested him to use his good offices to do something. Once I hear from him, I will post further details. Meanwhile, well-wishers may please wait and wish the veteran lyricist well.
Che! Che! This should not have happened to the creator of ever green ‘Natavara Gangadhara Umashankara’. How many of us know S.K. Karim Khan penned the our childhood song of ” Sharanu Sharanu oya Gananayaka namma karunadindali kayo Gananayaka”. Please inform us at the earliest how we can help ailing great perasonality.
