A voice even Leonarda da Vinci hadn’t heard

Japanese acoustic experts have made Mona Lisa speak by simulating her voice in the lab. Don't know about you, but she eerily sounds a bit like Sonia Maino, if you get what I mean. Leoonardo da Vinci's voice, on the other hand, sounds more like an Italian voice-over for a Discovery documentary. ps: Why don't our scientists do fun things like these? Are they incapable of thinking out of the box like this or are they too caught up in the bureaucracy of science or what?
