Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has already apologised to Sikhs for the blood-curdling 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom following the death of Indira Gandhi.
In the same spirit, should the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, say sorry on behalf of the entire nation to the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes subjugated by centuries of upper caste, upper class oppression this Independence Day?
Why are we raising this now? One, because of the kind of frayed tempers the quota move and the anti-quota protests have spawned. And two, because veteran American editor Ken Woodley has just kicked off a national campaign to get the US President George W. Bush to say sorry for slavery.
Why are we raising this now?
Guess, what wonderful thing happened on December 6th 1956.
At this rate, going bak into our history, everybody will have to keep apologising to every one else for something or the other…While the plight of Dalits is something we ought to be ashamed of, the way forward is how to uplift them not issuing a ‘sorry’ statement….India look forward not back…
Yeah, I also want him to apologize for Aurangzeb hating music. And, also for Ashoka’s Kalinga war. Maybe, I should come up with a long list a present it to Mr. President.
We have become such a pathetic society for expecting an apology for sins committed by our great grand fathers. Maybe, Mr. President should start off by apologizing for whatever Adam did to Eve. That was most definitely the biggest mistake.
The moral of the story is we must always ‘ape’ americans! If US President George W. Bush has to say sorry for slavery, we must say sorry for something else! Great Nation with Great Future!!!
Iranian prime minister Ahmedinejad as well has something similar to say, meanig, why are the Germans apologising for the Holocaust. Something that none of the present day young Germans are to be blamed for?
