PDCS writes: BBC reports on this incredible eater Rappai, from Trissur, known more fondly (though not by the ‘eat all you can buffet’ restauranteers) as Theeta. Seventy five idlis for breakfast. Three buckets of rice, one bucket fish and ten kilogams of meat in all you can eat buffet. There are more legendary stories, as 64-year old Rappai has become world famous in Kerala. But now he has reportedly decided to slow down, after some run ins with hoteliers and as per the advice of his doctors and police friends.

Reminds me an incident (story to me!) that my grand uncle use to narrate!
At the time of his marriage, there was a servant in his house called banappa and use to work very very hard. In the marriage party, people were making laddus (on the previous day!) and discussions lead to a challenge on eating. someone announces 1 paisa for 1 laddu and this guy went onto eat 1200 laddus!
The latter part of story was interesting. he ate 1200+ laddus and then gulped hot Holige (obbattu) sambar! He decided to go back to field and started working! by late in the evening he had put huge amount of effort on the field and could save his life.
Why the appetite of people of current times has reduced?
Reading this post and Girish’s comments reminds me of the scene in MAYA BAZAAR where Ghatotkacha simply finishes everything in the kitchen! What a scene (done without computers)! Hats off to the team.
Does he (Rappai) get any invites for wedding lunches? :)
kishor,
rofl :D
Same Ghatotkachana kathe aagatte!
“world famous in kerala” , ok – was that intentional or did it just slip in there. Either ways that got me cracking up. How slangs we use gets incorporated in our written language … ;P
