E R RAMACHANDRAN writes: Communist China’s Hu has a Dream Plan for its people for the next 50 years, which is mind-boggling.
The Chinese Academy of Sciences, in its blueprint has estimated that in 2050, they plan to achieve a per capita income of $ 1300 and a lifespan of 80 years for its people. Their capacity to dream big dreams are only matched by actions on the ground as is seen by the miraculous transformation of Shanghai City.
The other day, I ran in to the spokesperson of our Planning Commission near the Yojana Bhavan. Here was a chance to get updated about India’s dreams! Over Upma-Kesri bath at the UNI canteen, I asked about our Plans.
“What you say about China may be true. Here, we have to be realistic! Our Leftist Union will ‘Gherao’ the Foreman of Honda factory and will not let him to go to the toilet for 72 hours, if there is less sugar in the morning tea they drink immediately after they punch in. Even if we line our Airports with marble and chrome and polish it to be an international showcase, our Airport Pourakarmikas will not remove the garbage and clean the stinking toilets till their Union under Karats agree on the Diwali bonus.”
“What about power generation?”
“It is a problem, but, we are at it. We have already approved a candle factory in Dabhol. This will make 1 million candles a day and by third year we even plan to export. In addition, we will also scale up one of our Navaratnas to make Diyaas. We will scout for a good technical collaborator for these projects once the UPA Government gets ‘NOC’ from its Left Partner.”
“What about Plans for rural India?”
“If the weather gods, smile at us, we hope to grow enough paddy and wheat so that the rate of suicide among farmers comes down. We also hope there will be some spin-offs for rural sector from the inventions from the mega project—Chandrayaan—Our Space Mission to Moon.”
“What about interlinking of rivers and desalination of sea water to solve water problem?”
“Every time we raise this topic between Chief Ministers, the meeting ends with the CMs coming to blows! No state will allow sharing a drop of water with its neighbour! The garland of rivers has become quite a thorny issue. Desalination will take another 100 years before the Prototype developed by our National Labs can be put to any real use.”
“What about infrastructure? Shanghai already has over half a dozen Ring Roads and most of the cities in China would have 4- lane roads encircling them.”
“We too will focus on Ring Roads once we get rid of the potholes which has somehow mushroomed in highways all over the country. Our scientists are working on solution for getting rid of potholes by harnessing Rocket science, Nano Technology and Stem cells. It will be a matter of time before our scientists train our PWDs, Municipalities, their contractors and masons to eliminate potholes forever. But here again the real problem is, the Left might rap us accusing us being Pro-US!’”
“All these look like nightmares to me. When is the big Indian Dream coming up?”
“It will come. First we have to live through the Nightmares of interference from the Left every second day.”
“How come China, a Communist Nation is progressing so well, when our Communists, have become a spanner on every project?”
“Our brand of Communism is more suited for Nightmares than Dreams. That’s the difference!”
reasons why infrastructure improvement in india will not progress,
1) when a company like NICE is entrusted with building corridor highway, he bypasses agreement, demands thousands of acres of fertile land for real estate.
2) when govt . agrees for PVT-PUBLIC PARTNERSHIP, IT BT HONCHOS WANT ONLY ROADS LEADING UP TO THEIR COMPANIES TO BE IMPROVED, let others go to hell.
3) WHEN A company IS ABOUT TO BE SET UP, AN ACRE OF LAND IS ACQUIRED FOR 3 LAKH FROM THE FARMER WHEN THE MARKET VALUE IS 75 LAKHS.
4) when a politician has to worship his leader’s photo, and sing hymns to get ticket to contest elections.
what more can one expect,

Dr. Ramesh at it again!!!!
C’mon sir, it was a longtime since we started to see your posting on the Churumuri website.
Even though the reasons everytime you posted were laughabale to say the least supporting the ruling first family of Karnataka, surely in this post, the first and the third point you have raised have some real sense in it.
You are right when a Company wanting to build a road asks for thousands of acres of land – which is utter nonsense. But whoever signed this, did it on behalf of the public. Hang that person who allotted the land, if he has taken any money. But look at this angle, inspite of all cases being cleared by the highest court in the country, is it not right on our part to hand over the land to complete the project and enjoy the benefits?
Secondly, you are saying that IT-BT companies want roads leading to their offices in better shape, what is wrong with it? If you are hungry, you cry for it – no one else can do so!!! Can they? Thats what precisely has been done. They are infact telling to improve the infrastructure of Bangalore – not only their roads. Improving infrastructure benefits one and all – you agree with me right?
Your third point was the one I liked the most. We have seen politicians grabbing land in the name of trusts and other pretexts paying pittance to the farmers. This should be stopped. At the same time, I have seen farmers becoming greedy after selling the land to the present owners and going to court for reclaiming the land – which is again wrong. Your take on this?
I agree that we have seen improvement of the infrastructure and better governance in Sri. HDK’s stewardship, but he is too pre-occupied with his own problems. If he insulates himself from these issues, he can definitely deliver better.
One final word on communists of our country. No communist party in the whole of this world can match our own CPI or similar parties. Even China has a lesson or two to learn from them!!! They want everything to be free or grossly subsidized. If you tell them that they can live life in luxury without spending any money, they are first ones to pounce on it. Hail the red flag!!!!!

sir, nimma abhipraya sariyaagide.
i would like to cite the example of the SEZ policy,
the proposal in its present state is draconian, inhuman—- our communists are pressing for changes to the policy ,so that people who are loosing their land are benefited, also fertile agricultural land is spared.
asking IT-BT MANAGERS, BUSINESSMEN TO DRAFT POLITICAL DECISIONS IS FOOLISH, AGAINST DEMOCRACY.

The Possibility of NRN (Narayana Murthy I presume) as President is yet another scare for this already tortured country. It raises the spectre of yet another dynasty- well its only a non-executive prez but still- and dynasty these days should not mean father- son sort of thing. It could also mean master-apprentice stuff. Are we also creating the right atmosphere for a new Proujadism in India- the kind that exceeds the BJP vision like nothing else the Right side of Kaveri and Tungabhadra?
As much as I appreciate this post I cant see the relevance for it to be posted on CHURUMURI- where is the Mysore angle? Call me narow visioned and parochial but still if anypne can see the Mysore angle would you care to enlighten me?
