E.R. RAMACHANDRAN forwards a much-forwarded forward that still deserves to be read and (maybe) forwarded.

A jobless man applied for the position of “office boy” at Microsoft. The HR manager interviewed him then watched him cleaning the floor as a test.
“You are employed,” he said, “Give me your e-mail address and I’ll send you the application to fill in, as well as date when you may start.”
The man replied “But I don’t have a computer, neither an email.”
“I’m sorry”, said the HR manager, “If you don’t have an email, it means you do not exist. And who doesn’t exist, cannot have the job.”
The man left with no hope at all. He didn’t know what to do, with only $10 in his pocket. He then decided to go to the super market and buy a 10kg tomato crate. He then sold the tomatoes in a door-to-door round.
In less than two hours, he succeeded in doubling his capital! He repeated the Operation three times, and returned home with $60. The man realized that he could survive by this way, and started to go everyday earlier, and return late.
Thus, his money doubled or tripled every day. Shortly,
he bought a cart, then a truck, then he had his own fleet
of delivery vehicles.
Five years later, the man is one of the biggest food retailers in the US. He started to plan his family’s future, and decided to have a life insurance. He called an insurance broker, and chose a protection plan.
When the conversation was concluded, the broker asked him his email. The man replied, “I don’t have an email”.
The broker answered curiously, “You don’t have an email, and yet have succeeded to build an empire. Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an email?!!”
The man thought for a while and replied, ” Yes, I’d be an office boy at Microsoft!”
Morals of the story:
Moral 1: Internet is not the solution to your life.
Moral 2: If you don’t have internet, and work hard, you can be a millionaire.
Moral 3: If you received this message by email, you are
closer to being an office boy, than a millionaire…
He must have had an unbelievably high level of fitness and a fantastic sales pitch to go
1. Door to door on foot every day
2. Sell everyone of his products every day, day after day, as they increased
3. Find sellers who would buy his tomatoes at virtually double the cost he incurred in buying them so that he was actually left with something to eat after the first sale (remember he had $10 in his pocket only)
Also, statistically, the poor don’t have the Internet. The Rich do. So wipe the smug smile off your face.
SONIA FAILS YET AGAIN- Inside India
Defying all predictions, opinion polls and own party organization, something not seen in the recent past, Mr. Narender Modi of BJP has returned triumphant in India’s most vibrant state Gujarat with a bang, making even a powerful section of media to lick the dust.
The Gujarat verdict has conveyed four important messages to the Indian Polity. For Congress, it has exposed it to the harsh reality that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi can not win elections for them. Party has lost in all the states since its coming to power in the Center in 2004 . In Bihar, UP and now in Gujarat the party used Gandhis as their mascots but fared miserably and it has exposed limits of dynastic charisma.
For BJP the lesson is that in Narender Modi, a leader who has risen above organizational hierarchies has emerged. Today the fact is that party needs him more than he needs the party. The BJP should seriously consider handing over the party’s reins him if it wants to be seen as a party with difference.
Nearly forty years after Indira Gandhi’s meteoric rise in 1969, one sees in Modi a leader who can have pan-India appeal. Modi has the same mass appeal, charisma, courage and firmness of conviction which Indira Gandhi had displayed in 1969 to take on her organizational bosses. Never since the days of Indira Gandhi, had one witnessed such scenes of mass frenzy.
Today’s Vibrant India is looking forward to leadership such as Modis-leadership who are not chary of withdrawing unnecessary sops and freebies. This is markedly from our current situation where our political class who in the name of governance believe in squandering tax payer’s money in the form of sops and freebies and in the process create empires for themselves. He has amply demonstrated that political leader doesn’t need to promise or offer quotas or reservations in jobs and educational institutions to win over the masses. I am sure if opinion poll is held amongst industry honchos, Modi will get minimum 95% votes.
The lesson for Indian polity is that people are not looking to sops and freebies. You can’t win over masses with waivers and subsidies. People look to prompt delivery of services and a transparent administration which Modi did admirably. Though it may look incredulous, the one person who must be most pleased with Modi’s victory is our PM Manmohan Singh. Former could do little under organizational pressures, the latter executed against heavy odds. It is a pointer to reformist constituency and the importance of a strong leader.
Last lesson from Modi’s victory is for the highly ambitious Mayawati. One can not rule this large country by coining opportunistic slogans. The late Kanshi Ram created constituency for her with highly venomous attack on high castes. It would be better for her to focus on dalits and wish away her ambition of ruling India with her gimmick of winning over high castes. Voter has become wise. She got UP with negative votes. Now she should use the opportunity by concentrating on its administration. Ruling a big state like UP is akin to ruling Pakistan. She shouldn’t forget that every state and every region has its own dalit leaders with whom the people of that state want to be identified. Her experiment has failed in Gujarat, it may fail in Himachal so for the time being it is better for her to concentrate on UP. Like Modi let her first win an election on positive votes.

The opinion is close to reality both for Sonia gandhi as well as mayawati.
yes, there is a lesson for Indian polity.
Have a heart to Imagine the Plight of Hindus if India were a Muslim majority State
I am no Hindu fanatic and believe that people of all sects and faiths should live together in India in perfect harmony. But, the recent controversy surrounding allotment of land to Amarnath Trust which involved protests by the local Muslims and then under pressure from them, U turn by the Chief minister Gulam Navi Azad makes one to feel that the plight of Hindus will be pitiable if at any time Muslims come in to majority in India.
All sects and faiths have their holy places of worship. Ajmer for Muslims, Nander in Maharashtra for Sikhs like wise there are innumerable holy places for different sects. Pilgrims visit such places not only from India but from abroad also. Therefore, a space needs to be provided where the pilgrims may feel at home. If a small piece of land is provided to Amaranth trust to camp the pilgrims, why there should be so violent protests from the majority population of Kashmir especially when they know that it is just not possible for the outsiders to stay permanently there, even if they choose to stay, because of the climatic reasons. It speaks of the intolerance of Muslims of Srinagar to the people of other faiths and gives credence to the fears expressed by the Hindu pandits on umpteen occasions whenever asked to move back to Kashmir.
I also decry the postures of VHP, threatening the visitors to Ajmer. Instead they should involve Muslims of the country and I am sure if handled sensibly, Muslims of Srinagar who opposed such a move will feel isolated.
It also reveals the double standards of our English media and our Human Rights activists. If Muslims had faced the similar situation in a Hindu dominated state, especially ruled by BJP there would have been chain of editorials and columns. But, because it is a doing of Muslims in the Muslim dominated state, they are maintaining silence.

It shows level of inspiration of 1.1 billion population country.
Ref-Rs 25 lacs awards to Akhil and Jitender by Haryan Govt.
Award of Rs 25 lacs to the boxers Akhil and Jitender for reaching in quarterfinals by the Haryana Govt. not only makes us an object of ridicule in the international arena but sends wrong message also.
What about many others who even attained fourth place also in the Olympics but couldn’t get any thing and the fact of matter is that there are many who made to the quarterfinals even in highly competitive event of athletics. Sri Ram (800 M runner) was one of them and wrestlers Ved, Sudesh and Prem were placed fourth in their respective categories in 1968 and 1972. I am sure no quarterfinalist has been awarded till date.
Why should we be in hurry? When awards/sops are already announced for the winners of Gold, Silver and bronze we should wait for that. There shouldn’t be any award for quarterfinalists. When we do so we simply demonstrate our level of aspiration. And it is outright ridiculous for a country of 1.1 billions.

Ref- Ganguli’s outburst
Ganguli- media created icon.
6900 runs in 109 test matches with 15 test hundreds at 41 averages is a very ordinary performance and doesn’t support his categorization in the list of fabulous at the first place. In present times no batsman with average below 50 can be put in the category of great batsman.
When it comes to his record as the captain, take out his wins against Zimbawe and Bangle Desh. It is again not something special. He is special because he happens to be the only cricketer from West Bengal in last 30 years to make some mark on the national scene.

SATYAM IMBROGLIO
Presence of Independent Directors is only ornamental
Satyam’s decision to benefit its family concerns by taking highly controversial decision has unfolded the harsh truth that independent directors on the boards of Indian companies have only ornamental presence.
Fact is that 99% of the Indian companies are run by the promoters as they wish and Independent directors have a very little role. The independent directors are inducted only to meet the company law requirement or for the satisfaction of money lending institutions and are kept in good humor with attractive sitting fee and other opportunities for good life like foreign trips, sponsoring of family holidays in iconic hotels and other benefits which unfortunately has become the weakness of 99% working class, whether he is the director of some business school or an ordinary clerk. ( Sir, when I say this I don’t mean only a few A group companies like Tisco, my finger points is to all companies including B group, Z group and many others running in to thousands which were listed on bourses in the last 20 years but today even Company law Board may not be knowing about their registered offices because their officers are also in the list of 99% only)

Cut in petrol and Diesel Prices
As a consumer I will like the Govt. to present a paper justifying Rs 45 per liter as the petrol price corresponding to USD 40 as the international price of crude. When the crude price was USD 147 the corresponding price of petrol was Rs 50 per liter. Consumers have the right to know how reduction in the crude price by USD 105 translates in to only Rs 5 per liter reduction in petrol price i.e. 70% reduction in crude price resulted in only 10% reduction in petrol price. Where does the fault lie, is it the flawed procurement mechanism or other pilferages?

IT companies taking undue advantage
All IT companies have increased the daily working hours of the employees to 10 hours apart from slashing down the salaries.
Is the financial condition of these companies so grim to support this type of action which is unlawful apart from being highly unethical? Answer is ‘No’ if one goes by the financial results of Infosys and other companies. Infosys has shown a net profit of Rs 1613 crore from the revenue of Rs 5635 crore which is 29% up when compared with the previous year. All these companies have large female workforce. With the increase in daily timings female employee are hard put. They remain out of their homes for minimum 12 hours a day. How one can expect them to meet their family obligations? Not only this, a proverbial sword of so called PINK SLIP is hanging all the time over their heads. And what is this much hallowed salary in the IT sector for these B.Tech degree holders? Rs 15000 to Rs 25000 per month and a few are paying even less. This includes all cost to the company which looks a measly amount when one takes in to account the fact that the starting salary of a clerk in central Govt after the implementation of sixth pay commission is Rs 20000 odd and that of a teacher is Rs 30000 for almost 50% working hours with life time security of job. Such harsh measured used to be forced when companies make cash loss which is not the case with any IT company.
It is a high time govt. and the labor dept. intervenes. It will be a sad day for the IT industry if such unfair practices of the employers force employees to unionize. After all IT employees with no supervisory functions are workers only as per the definition of labor laws.
