Can a cartoonist have two views on the same subject on the same day in two different publications? In The Times of India, Bangalore edition, yesterday, the cartoonist N.S. Ponnappa took the safe and predictable Koramangala stand on the N.R. Narayana Murthy issue.
But, surprise, surprise—or maybe, no surprise, no surprise—in Mid-Day, Bombay, yesterday, he hammered home the irony of the national anthem not being sung through a witty line. Except that the cartoon got carried in the tabloid’s nascent Bangalore edition, too.
Different strokes for different folks?

yeah why not?
mebbe he is an impartial observer and can see both sides of it?
when most subjects are not unidimensional why should any one take only one view of them?
I can understand , must have had two different cocktails the previous night .
Yes..You know even cartoonists have two opinions these days. :)
As simple as that – Today’s TOI carries the editorial in support of Murthy, while VT bashes Murthy. Both from the same stable. VT says in its editorial that the incident happened at the Infosys facility at ‘Mangalore’!!
Called ‘forked tongue’ and it is what some celebrity Indians have.
Tegginamane Shivu Says:
“VT says in its editorial that the incident happened at the Infosys facility at ‘Mangalore’!! ”
Thats why KP Quit VT ..because it was directionless
What’s wrong with it? He’s a cartoonist… his job is to be funny not to take sides or push an agenda… Of course, along the same lines, one would think the primary job of journalists is to “report impartially” but we’re all seeing how it doesn’t work that way.
OMG, the man puts a sense of humour before pride, patriotism, jingoism, breast-beating and loud demagoguery!!!
The shame!!
Let’s deport him NOW!!
Good idea Alok. I think he should be deported to Elbonia. That’ll teach him to be funny.
Ponappa is a senior Cartoonist and we have enjoyed his work for years.
Lets leave his opinion the way it is and move on .
I’ve always loved Ponnappa, one of our most intelligent humorists.
Ponnappa may well be R.K. Laxman’s heir in cartooning greatness. His range and quality are consistently exceptional. Let’s stop being cynics and celebrate Ponnappa for his stupendous talent.
Don’t you read? Don’t you see? The cartoon is a continuation of sorts. He’s painted both sides of the coin.
I would rather say, let us export him now!!!
Ponnappa has always been anti-Kannada and anti-Karnataka in his cartoons. He is the most suitable cartoonist for an anti-Kannada trash paper like Times of India
Will go with Tarle Subba on this: Let’s not limit Ponappa’s artistic license. His humour is contemporary and quite refreshing. Sometimes I feel, he has not got his due….
.kannada and anti kannada..why to see each and every issue only thru this tag..
