Hell hath no fury like a British politician scorned

The Jokesmith at the Adam Smith Institute recounts an interesting one.

Lloyd George, the charismatic British politician and prime minister in the early 20th Century, delivered an address at a rally in support of Home Rule for Ireland.

“Let us have Home Rule in Ireland,” he declared. “And Home Rule in India. And Home Rule in South Africa…”

At this point, a heckler shouted “And let’s have Home Rule for Hell!”

Lloyd George pointed to the heckler. “I do admire a man who speaks up for his own homeland.”
