Of course, the tiger is a magnificent animal

SWAROOP DEV sends us a YouTube link of a “live demo” of a man-animal “conflict” at the Kaziranga National Park. Comments, of course, are most welcome.

VADIRAJ HOMBAL completes the story.

once had a bull elephant chase us in bandipur but we were in the bus.
but this is way way beyond that. i wonder what the elephant did. given the thulp of the left paw, which surely landed on it, it was surely injured. wonder what happened to the mauta. prolly one vicitim per attack.

just increased my respect for artistes of hoysala symbols & other tiger symbols. never imagined that the legs to be so far apart, mouth so agog, the intent so clear, inspite of their illustrations. they had it pat all along.

staged pyscho didn’t have me this scared.

sorry for spamming this post. but this is the most amazing thing i have ever seen. i mean even a bruce lee would be put to shame at the tiger’s minimalism. always at straight lines to the maut. ever aware. ever reactive.
but i’m puzzled about the elephant’s reaction. too tamed. too much load i guess.

Too good to be true… and it probably is.

Tigers don’t randomly attack people. Especially not when they are sitting on top of elephants. I’ll be skeptical about this…

Video does NOT look like doctored.

Man intrudes on tiger’s home. Tiger does annoyance is normal. Indeed, that’s exactly what man would do if tiger had intruded on man’s home!

Hope the tiger whacked that silly mahaut good and proper. Too few tigers in the wild for me to sympathize with man.

Feel sorry for the innocent elephant though.

    Mind-blowing video.

    Hufff…simply superb.

It took me a while to realise that this is real. The link with the story confirms though. Tigers do not attack humans in this fashion. But she had cubs to protect.

@Mysorean – why are you after the mahutha. just imagine you sitting in his place staring at huge tiger all charged up and nothing in defence except a metal piece to throw at. It’s a different and a more serious thing that we have intruded into their habitat…

…and what presence of mind the she-elephant had…

    Thanks for sharing the video.

Brings back memories of a couple of stories from childhood:
Ajji telling us of the time when a tiger once took away a cow from the kottige. An uncle’s story about a visiting American WHO official who wanted to hunt a tiger when on a visit to malnad (on some disease eradication program), and when he didnt find a tiger wanted to shoot buffaloes thinking they were wild animals.

what is very interesting is the tigress targeted the mahaut instead of the elephant. Always at straight lines to him, instead of perhaps a flank attack on the elephant.
