The film city is, as the Kannada writer Jayant Kaikini puts it, one of the eeriest places to be: “Screeching police jeeps rush past but you don’t know if it is for a real crime or a reel one. And you never know if it’s a good idea to post a letter in the post-boxes on the campus, because you don’t know if they are real or just props for a movie scene.”
