The two news items reported from Orissa and Andhra- Pradesh reveal the real situation in the rural parts of our country behind the much publicized euphoria of IT, BT boom.
The news item from Hyderabad is nothing but a concrete proof for the failure of state machinery to curb the practice of child labour . It is also an indication of depth of degradation , human being is capable of . Greed makes them to forget every thing else for the sake of money . In this case parents, employer on the state have to bear the burden of sin equally .
The news item from Orissa is not only shocking but also most disturbing . Of course utter poverty of the parents can be offered as an excuse for such an act of cruelty . But there is something more serious than the material status of the parents v involved here. Even animals and birds take care of their younger ones for a certain period if not for ever but never stoop to the level of killing them for consuming their food . It is a fit case for sociological and psychological analysis to prevent the recurrence of such ghastly incidence.
The state and society have to introspect a lot. Several crores of rupees have been earmarked and spent for various schemes of child welfare and rural development . The fact that we have yet to create right atmosphere in the country side to eliminate the causes of such inhuman action speaks volumes of our achievement .
