The scion of the erstwhile royal family of Mysore Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar extricates himself out of his chariot in the run-up to the elections of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in Bangalore on Saturday.
In the run-up to the 2004 general elections, Wodeyar, a former Member of Parliament from the City of Palaces, declared that all he had in his family garage was a Maruti Zen, J.D. Power please to note.

The picture is in bad taste – similar to publishing a picture of someone digging their nose. True SDNW is not a patch on his grandfather or father. Does it mean we make fun of the way he looks?
agree with G3S.
another example of HOW LOW MEDIA can go…
they even placed hidden cameras in the jail bathroom where monica bedi was shot in the nude!
NO POINT TEACHING THEM ETHICS…
KONANA MUNDE KINNARI….
What was he trying to prove by going in a Zen , when otherwise he moves around Bangalore in a Benz with a Double eagle flag ?
He will go in a Tonga ( if the horse can survive the trip) ..how does it matter ?
That is a Merc. Not a Zen. Please check ur facts with either the person who shot the pic or atleast someone who was there before writing something. This is the problem with the kind of armchair journalism that you are practicing. Complete disconnect with reality.
You criticise the media for being inaccurate, but this is actually the worst kind of mistake that the media can make, changing a fact just so that you can say something that sounds smart and will attract attention. I doubt even tabloids would sink to this level.
For the uninitiated, even a close look at the dashboard will tell you that the caption is wrong. You need not have ever sat in a Merc for that, a ride in a Zen would suffice.
Tasteless joke. As tasteless and disrespectful as the TV channels showing us the body parts of the dead. Not surprising considering that most Indians are not exactly the paragons for sensitivity.
People who have seen Mysore-Nanjanagud taxis will not be amused by this picture. Or, even our own city autos which takes boys to convents and schools will give a us a real picture. avaravara kashTa avarige gottu. Bulldozer you are dead right. This is a Merc, and that too an E class.
Cant agree more with everyone – unpleasant.
Bulldozer !
Imagin how the picture would be if it was a ZEN! On the lighter side —
Those days when the 2 door Herald came to the market which was very difficlt to get in, they used to say that the car was like a vergin, “difficult to get in, but once you get in it will be very comfortable”.
On Mr. Wadiyar and Press:
Just while i was surfing i got this information, which i don’t remember to have read in the media. I thought it is worth sharing.
In 2005, lankesh Patrike had published a highly scandalous article on Mr.wadiyar entitled “Kamangi Arasana Salingi Koota”. Against this Mr. Wadiyar had gone to Press Council which upheld his appeal thus:
Recommendation of the Committee
The Inquiry Committee on careful consideration of the impugned photograph and the news report was of the firm opinion that the respondent, ‘Lankesh Patrike’ in its issue dated 6.4.2005 published most offending writeup against the complainant throwing all norms of the journalistic caution to wind. The news report was per se defamatory and had the tendency to tarnish the reputation of the complainant among the society and his family. While the Council has laid down that persons in public life should not be too thin skinned, this is not to say that they should be immune to undue castigation. The Committee was extremely dissatisfied with the way the respondent had attempted to insinuate the character of the complainant, juxtaposing the statements with unrelated photographs. The language employed was also in very poor taste as the respondent had himself admitted. The Inquiry Committee felt that this was a fit case of awarding major penalty under Section 14(1) of the Press Council Act on the erring Lankesh Patrike, Bangalore, for offending the standards of journalistic ethics and public taste and caancelling the accreditation of the papers’ editor/journalist. It, therefore, recommended to the Council to censure the respondent newspaper and its editor. The Inquiry Committee also recommended that a copy of the adjudication be sent to the DAVP, RNI and State Government of Karnataka for action as they deem fit in the matter.
Decision of the Council
The Press Council, on consideration of the records of the case and report of the Inquiry Committee accepts the reasons, findings and the recommendation of the Committee and decides accordingly.
Guys, you’re all missing the woods for the tree.
Of course the car is not a Zen. Apparently, it is an Innova. The poster’s trying to be ironic. He wants to highlight the fact that Mr. Wodeyar is driving around in different cars even though Mr. Wodeyar claims to own only one car, a Zen.
Innova or Merc, kee faraqkh painda, as they say in The Punjab. As far as I am concerned the point to ponder is that Wadiyar (that’s the way he prefers to be called in case “churumuri” has not got the memo) who claimed he only owned a Zen is stepping out of a bigger, better car. It could be an Innova or a Merc. It could be a tonga. It could be his, it could even be somebody else’s. But can a man who finds it so difficult to get out of an Innova or Merc really fit into a Zen? If the affidavit electoral candidates are supposed to file has such glaring “lies”, what use are these affidavits?
Yashica, how do you know about those glaring “lies”?
The cars might have been leased or the fleet might be owned by his group companies. As far as I know, tax avoidance is still legal.

kannadigas sincerely hope that wodeyar, mallya combo trashes patel and gang for the development of karnataka cricket.
It is very unfortunate a person claiming a prefix Dr has used such words as marvadi & kannada drohi against a Cricketer who represented Karnataka with distinction. His daughter is married to a havyaka Brahmin Boy with strong political connections. Besides Patel is a Gujarati whose forefathers have settled in Karnataka many generations earlier. Even his relative Y.B.Patel played for Karnataka. That does not necessarily mean he is an ideal candidate and he should be reelected. Ironically even Wadiyars claims to have migrated to karnataka from Dwaraka – 700 years ago ! Even Nalvadi Krishna Raja wadiyar was married to a princess from Vana in Gujarat. JCRW’s two sisters were married to Royalty in Gujarat. SDNRW one sister is married to Royalty from Gujrat again.
Let us cut this parochial nonsense but let us give our yuvaraja and see if he can emulate his illustrious forefathers as good administartors.
Coming to affidavits, if i remember right he was the richest candidate ! It is just a fact that he might not have purchased any vehicle in his personal name !

Please tell us more insider stories of palace intrigue etc. Thanks.
Sathya, since your mentioned EAS Prasanna: http://www.deccanherald.com/Content/Aug222007/sports2007082220713.asp?section=updatenews
AG,
oops! how can i know insider stories of Palace intrigues ? I am a rank outsider !
Jeevarathna,
Parvagilla. Please tell us the insider stories from your outside point of view then. And feel free to throw in funny phrases like ‘Kamangi Arasana Salingi Koota’.
jeevarathna,
do u know that after brijesh patel took over KSCA its become impossible for non-sinhi,marwari person to raise voice in board meetings. they have a group humiliating kannadiga members at every chance. his son udit patel in spite of poor performance for over 2 years played for the state.
namma hudugaraada vijay bharadwaj, ganesh , sujith quit the game because of this man. karnataka cricket is in crisis. neck this management out. lets support wodeyar to bring glory days of karnataka cricket back.
Dr.
I am not supporting Patel in the context of his performance or otherwise as Hon. Sec of KSCA. There was Sanjay Desai another Gujarati who is in fact in Wadiyar Group. Mr. Shankar who is Patel’s close aide in fact is supposed to be wadiyar’s lawyer too. Even Mr. Binny’s son played for Karnataka. You may well turn around and say Mr. Dravid is a Marathi from Indore. Then why is the Great Vishy on Patel’s side. so is Sudhakara Rao. MAy be mr. Maiyya too. We non members can hardly comment on what happens inside the corridors of KSCA. It is all hearsay. Well Whether wadiyar is the right choice, time only will tell.
I am sorry if my comments were a bit trenchant. No offense meant.
