G.N. MOHAN forwards a picture shot somewhere between Agumbe and Kundapur by AJIT ASHUTOSH KALLE.
Why do we have such a silly headline for such a beautiful picture?
Because of this: A paradise on earth? ‘Tis here, ‘Tis here

This place by the way, seems like Sharavathi Valley near Jog rather than Agumbe.

Absolutely arun, this looks the sharavathi valley before gerusoppa on the way to honnavar from jog…. the place is sheer magic…infact much of the water seen are the backwaters of the sharavathi tailrace project dam built at gerusoppa..
BTW, uttara kannada is the most blessed and the most screwed up district of karnataka

This is a viewpoint near Kollur Sagar Road. Now you cant go from Kollur side, as a bridge has collapsed!
It is indeed Sharavathi, in all her beauty.

That this kind of beauty exists in KA is not known to most people outside KA. I wonder why. Infact: natural beauty, Jog falls, Hampi, Badami, Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills…the list goes on. Yet, the tourists favorite is Kerala, Goa or Rajasthan. Of course if and when a lot of tourists do come, it may do to Karnataka what it has done to KL and Goa. However, given that the Karnataka economy is far less dependent on tourism than these two it may work out better. There are so many things to see in KA and the stunning neauty of places like Karwar, Sharavathi. It is sad that Karnataka is seen as merely the state of which Bangalore is the capital. However, the government has introduced the Golden Chariot. It is $ 350 a night per person. (To the best of my knowledge)

Awesome!! I think Places around udupi, shimoga and N Kanara is one of the more beautiful places. I have been to Goa and Kerala. Only difference is the aggressive attitude towards tourism by KL and Goa governments. KA goverment for all strange reasons wants to screw up the region let alone encouraging tourism. All they want is power plants, nuclear plants, mining in these regions. Probably because ppl don’t revolt too much here.
For heavens sake leave it as it is . Untouched,Pure and Beautiful!

i for one am really torn. donno whether to curse or bless the guy who took this foto. donno whether to share the bliss i have found or destroy it under the burden of sharing it. should i destroy the exotic-ness of a sathodi, a barkur or a hornadu by sharing it?
the goans are already beginning to rue it and if I’m not wrong the keralites hate it already. what the god’s own land does not like. how can His neighbours , where the grass is greener, take to?
given a sarkaara with no ears to the ground whom do I trust? either they yield all these territories to naxals or they destroy it.

True. Both the Goans and the Keralites are regretting having so many tourists flooding into the state. In Goa especially, the entire economy seems to have become so oriented towards tourism that the tourists seem to be running the show. The local people, I get the feeling at times, have become mere ciphers for the foreigners. Many other industries are folding up in Goa. In a sense, the over-emphasis on the Lustinate character of Goa has proved to be undesirable.
