U.R. Anantha Murthy in a letter to the Governor, on behalf of his writer-friends Girish Karnad, Devanur Mahadeva, and G.S. Maralusiddappa, quoted in Deccan Herald:
“We do not want the unholy alliance of the BJP and the JDS to form a government even if they have majority for they have vitiated the whole atmosphere by their mutual abuse.”
Is it because URA can expect no awards or inaams from the new government?
“LADDI JEEVIGALU”
When URA becomes Anatha Murthy he tries to lean on sombody. Sometimes awards at a young age makes these people think that they are indispensable to the society that that they are living. They rope in also for their circus and gimmicks. Enough. Let them mind their own business.
Ananthamurthy is now even against democracy. BJP has the largest number of elected members and it has been kept out of power by crooks like Ananthamurthy and Siddharamaih.
If they don’t want to abide by the law of the land, they should quit India.
BJP bashing has become a habit with some of the intellectuals. the sheer antipathy towards BJP makes them colour blind. I dont understand, in what way the BJP-JDS coalition, is better or worse than the Congress-JDS coalition. If the Congress and JDS who occupy the second and third slots in terms of the seats won, can come together, how can that facility be deined to BJP, which is on top of them as the single biggest party.
Criticise BJP if you must. For they are no paragons of virtue. But make out a cogent case, instead of giving vent to prejudice.
SLB where are you ?
Why don’t the so called intellectuals look at it as a limitation of the parliamentary system and suggest real solutions, instead of name-calling? Once the house was in suspended animation there were really only two options. Elections or some understanding between the parties to form the government. So if everything is being done constitutionally and by choosing the less expensive option what atmosphere has been vitiated?
In fact with such arrangements (rotating chief ministership) becoming more common, the constitution should be amended to make the transfer smoother.
URA and his friends will prefer to opt for Congress and JDS! GOOD!
Wah! Gnanapeetees, you have decided to impose your personal preferences on the people by demanding not to hand over power even if the party you dislike has the mandate of people. You have with your left leaning left minimum decency of respecting the majority verdict
Dear Intellectuals from Karnataka,
Greetings!
It is nice to note that you are worried about the future of Karnataka. As a retired person I feel that we cannot spend public money on another assembly election now. I am sure you are also with me in this. Supposing we have another election and the verdict is as fractured as it is now, what can be done. The same old story again. What is your solution for this problem? Congress & JDS, Congress & BJP or BJP & JDS? Or can all the three join to form a stable Government with one of you the Intellects as the Chief Minister (Non-political CM). Why don’t you suggest some thing like this rather than preventing the BJP to form a Government?
Regards
Prasad
lol.. To me, URA was never worth an attention more than that of a joker.
But a lot of media, and also churumuri seem to think otherwise. :D
Isn’t there a younger generation of intellectuals in our land? Why is it that our noise makers almost always include none but URA, Karnad, G. K. Govinda Rao, Marulasiddhappa, and Gauri Lankesh?
Aashaadabhoothi, didn’t the mother of the nation, avatar of Durga, Indira Gandhi say she imposed emergency rule because she wanted to protect democracy?
Writers must not enter the political arena and offer their biased views. They must confine themselves to their area of specialisation, that is writing
But the desire to get publicity and possible favour perhaps tempts them to air their views.
The commenting on political scenario should be left to constitutional experts
Writers are not worth reading if they have no truck with politics. Everything is political in life. However, I find it hard to swallow when writers who have enriched themselves at the feet of government–Film Institute, Nehru Centre– weigh in. Nobody would have been able to attribute personal motives to Shivarama Karantha when he spoke up against something or somebody. Before Tagore–not our policeman–castigated the British, he returned all the titles they had conferred on him.
Aaluvaru badalaaguththaare; aasthana vidwamsaru kooda. URA avara dialogue odakke munche avaru thamma budhdhimaththeyannu Congress maththu CPI–emmo ello goththilla–arpane madidarembudannu naavu gamanadallittukollabeku.
Now can anybody tell me ,how will that Government be, if we have one ,with only intellectuals, say, with Gnana peetha Awardees like URA as C.M. / P.M. and GK as Dep. C.M. / Dep.P.M.?
For a change, I completely agree with URA this time. After abusing each other badly , BJP and JDS shamelessly coming together again for the sake of power. None of these politicians have an iota of self respect.
