Today is Monday, 12 November 2007. As B.S. Yediyurappa takes charge as the BJP’s first chief minister in the South, in a renewed alliance with the JDS, spare a thought for the wisdom of our “famous astrologers” who revealed what their crystalballs contained at the height of the month-long crisis.
Exhibit A: Daivajna K.N. Somayaji (in picture), as revealed on October 10, 2007 at the Sringeri Sharada Mutt in Bangalore:
“I have told the former CM (H.D. Kumaraswamy) that he is now enjoying Budha deshe and it will continue till 2014. He would be CM again for one-and-half term and he has the chances of becoming even the prime minister. At this juncture, Yediyurappa has no chances of becoming the CM.”
Exhibit B: Astrologer Ramesh Bairi of village Vandar in Udupi:
“Ramesh Bairi said nothing would come out of the proposed talks in New Delhi. He also said there was no chance of any reconciliation between both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (S).”
Exhibit C: Village headman S.L. Lakshmana of Srirampura, the village of soothsayers:
“Kumaraswamy will continue in power despite an occasion early this year for him to lose the post. Exasperated by the developments, Kumaraswamy may just give up the post. But power will not be transferred.”
