K.S. MURALIDHAR in Deccan Herald:
“Indira Gandhi was worshiped, abused, feared, loved, ridiculed, idolised, demonised, and eventually, gunned down to death…
“Atal Behari Vajpayee, a Jan Sangh MP in the early 1970s, hailed her as a ‘modern-day Durga‘.
“Unlike today’s leaders (sic), Indira Gandhi was decisive, bold, single-minded, and ‘her own man’. Indeed, she was really destiny’s own child. Love her or hate her, Indira was India.”

BS.
Indira and her political machinations to a large extent corrupted the political scene in India. From what political commentators of the day had to say, her way of clinging to political power without a care for principles or thought about what standard of people she is bringing into public life has in a way spawned the mutant that is the current day Indian politician.
These strange and corrupt creatures are just taking her quest for power at all costs forward.
I think it is M. F. Hussain who called Indiramma Durga and not ABV.
I can understand Indira’s grip on the nation’s imaginary. The deceptive last name, the dynastic membership, and utter ruthlessness. What is the appeal of Indira’s Italian daughter-in-law? It cannot be true that her Hindi is unbearable and that she is a stranger to English or that she is no smarter than her son. Time we gave her her due.
Indira was the most powerful leader of India.
