Former speaker S. Ramesh Kumar, a former JDS man now in the Congress, on TV9:
“H.D. Deve Gowda always wants H.D. Revanna to be in charge of the public works department because he (Revanna) studied engineering with Sir M. Visvesvaraya. And he always wants the energy department because Revanna has a doctorate in nuclear physics.”
Ramesh Kumar is no saacha ..he is a murderer .Remember the most recent case in Kolar district. The case is still in court .
He, R.V.Deshpande , R.L.Jalappa and Roshan Baig will lick anything to get into power .
In the sarcasm lies an interesting thought. How about a meritocracy even within the ranks of MLAs who get elected? A sort of point system based on the backgrounds of our elected representative?
No wonder Revanna is called PEDDA……..
That Revanna fellow was the minister for the past 40 months and we all know what he has done…such wonderful roads and threatening power projects like Tadadi and Chamalapura.
Why name only few? Almost all of them are of the same calibre. RV Deshpande’s constituency has one main road, and that one road has no concrete or asphalt. Kharge and Dharam represent the same consti for decades and the situation is no better.
Does anybody know how to get hold of a transcript of Devegowda’s hourlong speech in his own defence on the floor of the Lok Sabha? At least a reliable summary of it? Thank you.
Dear ‘Pulilkeshi the Last’,
Dr Ramesh might have the transcript. Please ask for full & read it yourself. Don’t make the mistake of asking the summary from the doctor ….. :)
State’s bill shocks Centre (DH)
Former Karnataka power minister H D Revanna may have a lot of explaining to do over his record in his favourite portfolio, as the Centre has found evidence of serious irregularities in the implementation of its rural electrification scheme in the State.
The UPA government has found that the power department headed by Revanna had awarded tenders for execution of rural electrification projects in the state at highly inflated rates. As against the approved Centre-approved cost of Rs 375 crore, the State power department had awarded contracts for 17 projects in many districts to electrify 49 villages at a cost of Rs 641 crore – over 70 per cent of the approved cost.
Indeed, Rs 641 crore worth tender awarded by the state government is more than the total cost of Rs 613 crore approved by the Centre for electrifying all the 132 unelectrified villages in the state.
The rural electrification programme under Rajiv Gandhi Grameena Vidhyutikarana Yojana (RGGVY) was launched by the Centre in May, 2006 and the 90 per cent of the cost of projects under this scheme is funded by the Central government.
The trouble with the RGGVY implementation in the State is not just confined to inflated tender costs far above the cost approved in advance by the Centre. When the Centre turned the scanner on the implementation record, it has found strong evidence to suggest bungling in project implementation.
‘Incorrect report’
A joint Union Power Ministry and Planning Commission field inspection carried out in the State has “revealed” that the State government had submitted factually incorrect status report to the Planning Commission on the progress of implementing projects under the scheme.
Contrary to the State governments report regarding the electrification in 47 un-electrified villages, the inspection in 20 villages has found that many claims were wrong, said sources in the Planning Commission.
The Union Power Ministry has so-ught the state government’s explanation, particularly over award inflated contract amounts. In its response, the state government attributed the infla-ted figures to higher cost equipment and materials, including copper.
It also claimed that the tender amount had to be higher because no contractor was willing to participate in tender process for lower amounts.
In view of this explanation, the Centre subsequently collected copper price quotations from neighbouring states like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. Surprisingly, it was found that the price of copper and other raw materials in these states were lower and did not substantiate the State government’s claims.
The Power Ministry has even suggested that the Central funding to the scheme could run the risk of suspension unless the state government came up with convincing answers to the contentious issues involved. According to the sources, the State government is yet to respond to this.
The Union Power Ministry has so far released Rs 252 crore to the state under the RGGVY. The sources said these issues have already been brought to the notice of the Prime Minister’s Office as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is personally monitoring the scheme which is part of UPA’s larger Bharat Nirman programme.

that sheds a 4000W light on the burning question why revanna was so fired-up over chamalapura.
Dr. Ramesappa!
Yenu Guru idhella! Yella aaw Cheddigala kithapathi irabeku alwa? Yenanthiya?
Two points:
1) This is one question the media should really go after….May be Doreraj will spill some beans if a reporter makes an effort
2) Churmuri saab, where did you get this ‘S’ initial for Ramesh Kumar. Official records show him as Ramesh Kumar without initials. One Hindu reporter, now a special correspondent, had(s) this habit of inventing initials for ones without when he was reporting politics in another newspaper. So, first he invented H N for Ananthakumar, then S for Ramesh Kumar (probably after the late S Ramesh (Cong) of Kunigal firing fame. Sometimes this reporter has also made an effort to put K for Siddaramaiah, the other initial-less leader in Karnataka but none has copied it so far…..
This nothing great but a bit of newsroom lore
Gosh!! ‘Fumble Harmers’ have worked really hard to help fellow humble farmers (and some dentists also). This is Revanna’s ‘Grama vaastava’.
Dheerendra Gopal,
You must get your facts right before accusing someone or just posting garbage on the forum. In August of this year, Ramesh Kumar and the other accused were acquitted of murder. The same case that you are referring to “as still in court.” About him lickin anything for power you don’t even know the half of it. He would relinquish any amount of power for the sake of honor and dignity, this is coming from someone who has worked under the man when he was speaker of the assembly, and has been watching him work for the last 20 years. He is probably one of the very few people in the state assembly today who commands the respect that he does. I am an IAS officer, have seen many a politicians come and go, but this man is in a league of his own. About the murder case, how do you know to believe everything that is printed in the papers? he was wrongfully accused and has been rightly acquitted. If he was a murderer how come the prosecution took 46 months just produce one single witness? the court threw the case out because the state had no evidence, no witnesses, nothing.
I agree there is not enough in the public domain as yet to accuse Ramesh Kumar of ‘licking anything for power’ but I wonder if the former Speaker is all that our IAS friend seeks to project here. I did not work under Ramesh Kumar when he had been the Speaker but I did observe him closely and I want to ask our IAS friend if my observations are true or false.
1) As Speaker his remarks and innuendos sometimes were not befitting the chair that he occupied. Sometimes it used to embarrass those who had any sense of propriety.
2) He would come across too immature and childish. He would frequently abandon the house and walk out in a huff for no great causes of course and more importantly unable to control the same kind of behaviour which he would display when he is on the benches.
3) He showed partisan behaviour on a number of occasions. One i still remember is how he subtly supported Roshan Baig caught in a controversy relating to his association with Koli Fiaz, and how he was biased against B Somashekhar caught in copying charges.
4) And finally, an IAS officer who worked under Ramesh Kumar?….State Assembly Speakers do not get IAS officers to serve in their secretariat I thought unless our friend got a non-SCS/SCS promotion to the cadre…(anyway this is besides the point)
i reckon we are wasting our valuable time disecting these corrupt dogs. their only goal is to amass money for thmselves, kit ans kin
let us discuss something productice such as poverty in karnataka or similar issues
