In an era of wham-bam, slam-bang cricket, Vangipurapu Venkata Sai Laxman turned it on against his favourite opponents—and how!—for the 12th century of his career, his third at the Sydney Cricket Ground. And the first question Ian Chappell asked him after he returned to the pavilion, was: “Mate, is it just this strip you like, or could you bat like this anywhere in Sydney?”

I still wonder how VVS never played a world cup! And who was picked instead of him for the world cup…Dinesh Mongia! Wherever he is now.
what has being sxy got to do with prn?
but when i saw your title, and when i started seeing those flicked drives with eyes wide shut and sound muted, Manickam Yogeshwaran started playing in my head. (and i have not watched the movie in years)
Tin Tin Tin Ting Ting Ting
Tin Tin Tin Ting Ting Ting
idu oru …..
the tempo, the heat all match.
somebody ought to do a remix – laxman’s batting, kubrick, yogeshwaran

i was totally dejected and decided to stop following running commentary in in Hindi,AIR.Laxman’s flow was never explained, went on describing Rahuls faulty technique from a guy who has never played cricket ?
He is a decent to the core Southie – so you won’t hear much about him in tabloids like TOI. He’s not a party animal, doesn’t own restaurants, doesn’t appear for Rupa underwear/banian ads. Few people can hold a candle to him ,techniquewise. And he doesn’t have any god fathers like players from Mumbai or Kolkatta.
Boy talk about timing. Just found this after a search on Dr.Vidyasagar’s web page.
“I struggled to find some youngster whom I can hold up as a role model, and I can think of only V. V. S. Laxman. He is a man of great accomplishment – in fact he is “very very special” as the saying goes. I know him personally because he is distantly related to my wife. But don’t you find it curious that while all manner of third-rate cricketers are already raking in the big bucks through endorsements, a person like Laxman who lets his bat do the talking is conspicuous by his absence? I also have the impression, based on what I see on TV, that Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid are also ideal role models, combining modesty with excellence. But I don’t know them personally.”
TS – nimmanna cricket Kaikini antha kareebahuda?
laxman – what an innings?
jayant kaikini – what a song?
VVS Innings was like:
1 Zubin Mehta with his magical wand conducting the NY Philaharmanic orchestra.
2. T.R Mahalingam’s lillting melody in flute wafting the ball to the boundary.
3.Songs of Mano Murthy in Mungaru maley with the rains caressing the trees awash.
Finally we were all lucky DD was not robbing us off 2 balls per over and we could get to see the standing ovation when he went back to pavillion. Even Sydney wanted more. Victor Trumper, would have been proud to see his innings today. When Trumper scored 170+ against England, Bradman , Trumper’s contemperary, called out his colleagues to clap with him saying.’This is the greatest Innings played ever’.
Let us be grateful to Steve Bucknor for not pointing to the heavens at anytime when LAX was batting till he got out eventually.
Laxman is a joy to watch. That he could not get his rightful place in recent Indian cricket shows how mismanagement crept in Indian cricket.
Pawar- all politicians, chamchas, and power brokers should be thrown out. Cricket should be back to players, professional managers, and supporters.
Despite this cricketer’s effort this and possibly the next two tests, I do not think the Indian team will collect the trophy.

That was not Trumper. That was Stan McCabe. Trumper was not in the same generation and was long dead by then. If I recall correctly, McCabe got 187* out of his team’s total of 270-odd. HE also scored 232 during a series in England.
