The sociologist Ashis Nandy, author of The Tao of Cricket (Penguin), in conversation with Rajiv Mehrotra on Doordarshan News:
“The Indian Premier League will shift the focus from “nation” to “city”. We have become an extremely nationalistic country. In fact, a recent survey of 44 countries put us at the very top of the table in terms of nationalism…. ‘Clenched-teeth’ nationalism has no future.”
There is a line (a clear line) between being pro yourself (whatever it may be like country/state/city/culture/language) and being anti others. As long as that line is not crossed, its all fine. Other wise.. as in cricket, it will be called a no ball!
