With the scorecard reading 110 for the BJP, 80 for the Congress, 28 for the JDS, six for others, some big broad trends are visible for the stunning BJP showing in the assembly elections of 2008.

Well, BJP deserved teh victory for they used every material and ammunition at their disposal constructively. Their leaders were able to explain what they are upto, what they can do and what they have in thier kitty to offer if they are voted to power.
Also its a slap on the face of those secularist parties and thier army of intellectuals decievers who along with the media fed all wrong notions to the public that the voting BJP to power will disaster to people of karnataka.
So called secualr parties – congress, JDS,BSP,SP,Commies could not offer a single credible solution to the mess they themselves have thrust upon the people of this country. Its too late for these parties and thier policies to change the mind of the people. The die is cast. Its a matter of time before the hotch-potch coalition at center under the mother-son-commie brigade too fades into history. Welcome, Hindutva! Welcome, BJP!
So finally people of Karnataka have given their verdict. They need
change. They need development. They need basic commodities at
reasonable prices. Most of all they need a STABLE SINGLE party to
power.
It is clear evidence that people took a decision that the elections
came in heavy to them. JD(S) is taught the lesson for not doing
justice to BJP and Cong too is taught lesson for inviting JD(S) to
form government, but later pushing them aside thus forcing for
governor rule. People of Karnataka were deprived from all the
development that had to happen because of all this and hence have
looked for a change. BJP have proved that no vote is untouchable.
Sushma Swaraj rightly called the “Lucky Mascot” has managed to get 8
out of 9 seats in Bellary region.
The reason for defeats of major leaders in JD(S) crew is none other
than HDR, the Gowda son. Right from Sidharamaih, M.P.Prakash,
J.T.Devegowda he always makes sure that the upcoming leaders fail so
that there are basically no front line leaders in the party. Now if
these leaders come up and mark themselves as specific caste leaders,
there will be fewer chances for him to come to powers or even give
threats to the family politics. For him building party is not
important but coming to power is important, according to close
sources. In such cases the leaders who cannot handle him and his cheap
way of politics choose to quit. He at least now should realize that
any party cannot stand with one big leader but also needs other
committed people. If he was not power hungry, I guess we would have
better government with HDK and Yediyurappa now.
The biggest mistake INC did was going by jothishya and totally
illogical seat distribution. There are almost 10-15 seats which were
given away by congress to BJP and JD(S) just like that. I mean from
where did Hegde’s daughter come into picture? Some say that certain
defeats in the past have come from candidates who were in no scene of
winning like Tejaswini. But she was a known person by then and a very
eminent journalist who knew the spelling of politics. The games played
by JD(S) and INC just to make sure that Yediyurappa loses and hence
there would be no leader from BJP, was a idiotic move. By not making
their contestants they made it easier for Yediyurappa. People are not
that dumb to pick a contestant who was admitted thrice to hospital
just during the election time and go for another bi-election.
Bangarappa after being in active politics for such long time failed to
realize he was made the scapegoat. I guess he should consider getting
the jothishya aspect to his home first, after all the members from his
family irrespective of what party they belong have lost miserably. The
time of entry, of SMK probably was late. Even otherwise his factor did
come into picture. He getting Byregowda’s son from the US all though
worked, but selecting Ambarish keeping in mind about Loksabha results
failed miserably. Vijaylakshmi Bandisidhegowda does not fail to visit
any house in her region whenever there is a death, just to make sure
that the death will not stop the livelihood of the family. Her efforts
have not gone waste and also the decision her son took for not
quitting JD(S).
Even though the final verdict is of a frustrated voter and not of the
intelligent voter, a decision is made. I hope the decision gives the
“common” voter what he wants.
The Kannadigas have shown themselves a politically astute lot again. The Cong has been booted out again – for thinking the Authority lies in Race Course Road, New Delhi and creating Yuvarajas.
The BJP hovers around the majority mark- but has not been manadated a landslide – to remind the BJP that the center of authority is the Vidhan Soudha and not in Nagpur. The Cheddys better perform a little bit.
Well written, no nonsense and true feelings of the people of karnataka. While reading through these pages, i get a feeling it has very balanced view rather than some media groups trying to influence peoples mind.
I guess this site is going to be one more of addictions:).
Good work.
Huduga
No landslide for the BJP. Enough votes for the Congress and the JDS to play mischief together. Dilli in charge of Karnataka, again. Kannada bites the dust, again.
Cry, my beloved state.
PTL, I cant understand your anguish at the current juncture and for the reason you quote:
Together the Cong and JDS have lesser seats than the BJP- so I cant see those njokers playing mischeif now- the likelihood of the BJP splitting the JDS and even the Cong to butress support is high.
In the long term I understand your fears- the BJP is likely to be as negligent of the true needs of Karnataka as was the Congress. In that sense Kannadigas bite the dust again.
I am happy there won’t be a coalition government. I am not so happy that the government will now start handing over taxpayer money to sundry Mutts and Ashrams.
I agree with some of the other posts here; the state BJP leaders don’t have enough spine to stand up for Karnataka/Kannada issues. I also expect to see more of those ridiculous chaddis around our neighbourhoods.
The number of seats won by BJP is too close to call. It will be interesting to see as to how they will handle dissidence which is bound to start in the future with Yediyurappa’s bete noir Ananth Kumar and other aggreived MLAs who will not find a berth in the council of ministers.
Just hope that they will not make Karnataka another Gujrat.
@Gokulam 3rd stage
“start handing over taxpayer money to sundry Mutts and Ashrams”
it is 1000 times better than distributing tax money to illicit liquor consumers and likes of saraayi poojari loans
Some of the governments that have given better administration both in the centre and the states have been ones that barely had a majority (think RK Hegde, PVN or Vajpayee’s 1st term). So we can hope for some governance.
etvraviraja, doesn’t matter if it is better than anything, it is still not good!
I am relived we dont have to face the instability of the coalition government and can see at least some comparitively developmental works in the state of Karnataka.
kavya thanks
BJP has just failed to reach the magic figure of 113. For the time being, they can manage to get the support of Independents.
But there is no gurantee that these independents will stay till 5 years.
Also the in-fights between Ananth and Yediyurappa group might lead to lot of tense moments.
Also it is quite difficut to break JDS, as 3/4 th of the people has to be pulled out. Most of the JDS winners are Loyal to Kumarswamy and not easy to break them out.
I am foreseeing an Assembly election within a year…..quite possibly along with the Loksabha election.
Wow Ms KS Gowda- youve got a most awful penchant for romanticising things. I just wondered who this ‘ intelligent voter’ and ‘ common voter’ are.
bhaari niraase, jaati yemba taluku-baluku maayanganege maaru hogi vote haakiddare kannada jana. but u have to live with it.
cheddi mele pant haakuva chance BJP ge sikkide . naadu nudige bhaddaraagi avaru kelasa maadali. all the best.
KUMARASWAMY— GREAT MASS LEADER HAS EMERGED, WHO WILL PLAY BIG ROLE IN STATE AND CENTRAL POLITICS IN FUTURE.
Gaby… avaravara cliché avaravarige… svalpa…
here comes the new pollster — Manu!!!
Glad that the wretched ‘sons-of-the-soil’ have dug their graves. And to make it even better this election turns a new page with new faces at the helm for the first time and damning the Bangarappas, Krishna, Dharam, Vatal. It is time for change.
The new political set up is more lethal than the kaLLabhatti that killed hundreds of our people.
Ramesappa, I hope now you see how dadda Dodda Gowda’s greedy pishaachi has pretty much destroyed his son’s hope to be CM for life. The Congress Palegars in New Delhi, and our Wigmaster, have at least admitted their mistakes. No indication of such self-awareness from the Haradanahalli Haidaru yet.
Just who the hell is Rajnath Singh in New Delhi to be telling us what will happen in our Kannadaland next?
Gaby–
There is no honor among thieves. Wait and see how many ministerships or commission chairmanships are going to be offered to those lucky six independents. I am dreaming of another big exodus from the JDS to the other two parties. After the demise of AMP (Appa Makkala Party), it will be the turn of the Cong and the BJP. We need something like what happened in Assom decades ago. An incorruptible Kannada Janathanthra Parishad.
@Pulikeshi the Last Says
Kannada Janathanthra Parishad
henge saadhya swami?
Kannada oratagara Vatalge tevani illa!
Karave gowdru – Praveen shetru are busy fighting over h**ta money (when they are not burning the buses/breaking glass/blocking roads/getting arrested)
Mandyada Gandu starru amby manege
henge swami?
Kavya has done well in her analysis of the confusion in the minds of the voters as well as those who wanted their votes.
I am greatly distressed by the claims that we knew what we were doing at the polling booths.
I am even more distressed by BJP SC/ST candidates winning. Not to say that it would have been better for the Cong or the JDS candidates to win.
Five years of skullduggery is what we are in for. Is this the best that Kannadigas can expect?
Irony of elections
BJP may have won more seats, but congress has won more votes in Karnataka.
BJP has got 33.9% voteshare, while congress has got 34.6% vote share.
Dear Aprawasi Bharatiya, Just hope that they will make Karnataka another Gujrat!!!!
Dear Vaish, who wants vote share. Its total seats that is important to form the government
>>KUMARASWAMY— GREAT MASS LEADER HAS EMERGED, WHO WILL PLAY BIG ROLE IN STATE AND CENTRAL POLITICS IN FUTURE.<<
@Dr.Ramesh: Kumaranna will vanish in thin air. JD (S) numbers will reduce further in coming Loksabha elections. You ask him to take rest, rest of his life. Sleeping in Leppers’ and Aids patients house is not enough to win votes.
Isn’t it logically correct that the calculations of BJP of adding personnel votes/charisham added to its traditional vote bank made them to get 100 seats this time. But how will they satisfy these migrants. Remember the maximum no of ministers is capped at 25. How will they fir in migrants like Bacche Gowda, M.Sreenivas,Thippeswamy,Basavaraj Bommai , B.Kashmpur & others .What about independents. Then the grumblings starts between natives & migrants. Well ,it will be fun to watch the so called disciplined BJP handling these issues. Added with already power hungry BJP native MLA’s .It will be interseting how long Yediyurappa pulls along with his well known short temper & additiction to function as Opposition leader even when in power.
dear d r ramesh , Kumarranna will bite dust in next election. How will he play role in central??? He is limited only to Hassan…………
dear Bengaluru Manja maximum no.of ministers is capped to 34
Dr. Ramesh has got great sense of humour. Pl appreciate his jokes.
Etvraviraja–
Nandu ade prashnegalu kanappa. The KRV becoming such a party is out of the question.
Janasamanya-
We have got to find a Bodhivruksha for our Dr. Ramesappa. His is the only euology for HDK I have seen.
What a great sad thing to media.
1. Media will loose its business because people don’t read or switch on TV due to the fact there is no HDD, HDK and thier supporter news.
2. Now I know why people were so fond of chanting HDD and HDK all the time. Spirituality says, the one who is remembered all the time was really a wanted and lovable person, otherwise why would they always talk about that person (Read Heal Your Life book if you get a chance). It at least teaches you how to talk, write and create a positive environament around you instead of attracting to these non-sense).
Media covered very badly on HDD & HDK to sell thier papers, they can’t sell anymore – poor thing, they really lost business. To be truthful, I never read news papers when HDK had heart attack, becaue there was no ‘hot news” from media.
Now all wishy wash news in the news papers – because they belong to the community of all media (non-vokkaliga so called upper caste) and no gowda in the lime light – what a shame to media ……………………..
Instead of becoming unbias to the public with all these caste or a party, they just bark like dogs using unethical words. People have to trust this pathetic media. What a thrid class media?
I read every word in the media – so much descreminiation between parties while writing just to use the words.
Arshina, kesari mix madthidharalla — kempadavo ella, kempadavo! All of Sswaraj’s Kannada cannot translate my feelings! But irony is she is being lauded for winning the Kannadiga’s vote, sentiments whatever.
