With just a day and more to go, the semi-finals of the Indian Political League is delicately poised. Chasing 272 with several bits-and-pieces players who have never gone beyond single-digit scores, the home team captain is understandably nervous. Will the new finds deliver in this tense, nerve-racking game? Will the old warhorses drop anchor at one end and help the team through?
With nothing left to lose, will the opposing team with a new leader go hell for leather? Given their much improved catching standards, will the tie go all the way down to the wire? Will the umpire have to pull out the rulebook if the scores get level? Will the sponsors be happy with the verdict regardless of whichever way it turns out? Will a win bolster the ageing side before the finals?
Country is at cross roads. Dangerous and outdated ideological forces like communists and left parties who do not believe in a true democracy are raising their heads. Left parties never adhere to democratic principales anywhere. Take any communist nation, be it China, Cuba, North Korea or erstwhile soviet era nations, none believe in political or indiviual freedom. It is high time Congress and BJP get together in the interest of preserving our democracy and hard won freedom. BJP is palying a dangerous game in trying to topple the government just to gain short term benefits.
Mayawati: This corrupt Govt will be nuked & toppled. I will be PM for a day, at least while I clear all those CBI cases against me and my family. I will show the power of the fist billionaire Dalit this great democracy has produced.
Chandrashekhar Rao (TRS): I support NDA since I will be a cabinet minister while they have promised me 50 crores and Telengana too.
D. Deve Gowda: Italian Aunty refused to make my poor son a cabinet minister while the blessings they offered is peanuts for my family. I will now try to be a Queen maker and my new sister Maya will nail those Reddy bros from Bellary, S M Krishna and team.
M. Shivanna: I will not vote according to the canny Gowda since he is only interested in making Kumaraswamy a minister while pocketing a part of the cash advance UPA already paid us.
Mandya MP M H Ambarish: I never made significant money after becoming a Cong-I MP so I recently tried to become at least a MLA from Srirangapatna, but the public kicked my ass. Like Amitabh Bachchan, I too have lost interest in politics, will abstain from voting and have another round of MCDowell’s no.1 whisky.
A B Bardhan: All communists now fully support Maya so that I will be a Defence Minister within week!
Ajit Singh: With 3 MPs, I am worth much more than 100 crores. I can now be a big Jat cabinet minster and then change every airport’s name.
Shibu Soren: I fully support Cong-I, their blessings are already in our foreign bank accounts. Neither me nor my former dacoits, coal mafia dons and murderers will ever get back to that Jail again.
Shahid Siddiqui: I ditched Mulayam Singh Yadav and embraced Maya because only she can deliver my moolah henceforth. Amar Singh has been spending too much time with the Bollywood dancing extras.
Dayanidhi Maran: I support UPA, after all I want to be safe in Chennai and have no choice but to do whatever my impotent old DMK uncle says.
Asaduddin Owaisi (lone MP of Majlis-e Ittehadul Muslimeen): I fully support Cong-I because the Muslims will never vote me back again while I have never ever received so much cash in my life.
Prakash Karat: The communists have never been sincere or trustworthy and will be back in power to mint money again.
Chandrababu Naidu: Maya has to become the PM, only then can I dream of becoming a minister in New Delhi.
L K Advani: I will let Maya become PM since elections are only 6 months away and by then the public will forget my past fascination to praise Jinnah and Pakis.
Actor Dharmendra: My knee surgery in the US is a good excuse for me while I have no interest in that crazy Parliament. I rather watch the vote and that cartoon Laloo on TV with my favourite Dewar’s scotch
Lalu Prasad: I will ensure everyone laughs it out to the bank with fresh notes and free railway VIP tickets for life.
Ram Vilas Paswan: Only the Cong-I can help anyone achieve their dreams while the BJP is the biggest danger to world peace.
Rahul Ghandi: I have always been retarded, so will watch the crooks play it our from the back benches and my gang will wait for our time.
Somnath Chatterjee: I will help whoever lets me become the speaker again!
Smitha,
Your point well taken, But what do u want the BJP to do. The BJP cannot support the congress on the table. They are diametrically apart on how to run the country. The congress for the sake of votes has become more communal than any other party. It does not even condemn bomb blasts any more. My only request to all citizens is please vote for national parties in lok sabha elections. That is just vote for BJP or congress. In regional elections local parties can have a clout for local issues. But it is high time we have one party at the center.
Regional parties are not worried about National Security and dont even understand what IAEA stands for. They dont know what’s Internal security requirements of the country.
I’m not discounting National parties either.
We have seen bomb blasts being carried out at will in Hyderabad,UP,Rajastan and Karnataka. The victims of these families are suffering the stigma of proper policies not in place to tackle these.
Instead of keeping interest of the Country as paramount and framing policies to maintaining internal security, these folks are creating vote bank of every community for their short term survival.
India lacks statemen at this point of time. All are petty politicians.
Short Term Goals of these Petty Politicians are as given.
Private limited family owned Political parties. Their sons and daugters are recycled back into the parliament. Parliament has got 542 MP’s and for generations to come, we will continue to see these folks generating money for themselves. Corruption is not going to wiped out so easily.
All these talk of Lok Ayukta being given more power etc, will remain a dream.
At this point only stars can foretell.
Murali,
Per Dilbert “Management is the ‘art’ of centralizing everything decentralized and then decentralizing everything centralized, in an endless loop”. We seem to pine for a 2 party system while the US is lamenting just that — no viable third alternative ; intriguing.
That apart I agree with your response to Smitha, might add, religious rigt has it’s own banes.
Murali,
I agree with your comments. There should be a give and take on both sides. Congress should forgo many of its wrong policies and BJP should also do the same in the greater national interest. What we are seeing today is total weakining of national parties paving way to alien ideologies and parochial regional parties which is not good for the progress and preservation of democracy. Anyone can see how communists were blackmailing the government without any responsibility. Communista are acting like great democrats now because they do not have absolute power but their real intentions are to stiffle democracy. dissent and freedom.
The Con and BJP diametrically opposite- I wonder about that!!
Churumuri policy to censor anti congress comment ?
Murali
Congress has lootedthe nation, created corruption and hurt Indian security.
And only played divide and rule for 60 yrs and no one here is even outraged about ethnic hindu cleanisng by islam under congress rule in kashmir, wbengaland assam.and terror blasts. If the communists are bad,the congress is worse because it
is playing deceptive corruptgames for 60 yrs and has impoverishedthis nation made it corrupt, divided and nonmeritocratic.
BJP is the only hope.It has done a much better job than congress in the states and at the center. No one in his right mind can support congress
after its track record.
I do not follow Karnataka politics closely but lately I have been visiting Churumi. I was under the impression that the current CM deserves all the ridicule that Churumuri gleefully dumps at every chance. But after reading this news I am having some doubts.
Karnataka to build power plant in Chhattisgarh
Bangalore: Karnataka will build a 2,000MW thermal power plant in Janjgir district of Chhattisgarh, chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said.
Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh has agreed to Karnataka’s proposal, Yeddyurappa said, adding the proposed project at Godhna would require around 2,000 acres of land. He said the site was connected by rail and road, and water was available from the Mahanadi river—factors that would help in building the plant.
In a letter to Singh, Yeddyurappa requested the Chhattisgarh chief minister to grant available government land. “I also require your timely assistance for water allocation from the Mahanadi as well as early clearance of the state pollution control board,” he said. “Most importantly, as member-state in the coal allocation committee of government of India, your help for obtaining coal linkage from the south-eastern coal field would be essential for success.”

Friends,
the analogy of cricket is wrong here. This is a con game palyed in the interest of political class to maximize their earnings or monetize their power in the name of democracy.
People like Deve Gowda, Ajit Singh, Mayawathi, Mamatha, Sibu Soren, Mulayam Singh, Chandrababu Naidu, etc do they even talk on Indo-US nuclear pact? It is not that Congress party would have been done any differently if BJP was pushing this very pact. They would have also done the same thing.
In all this cacophany the national interest is completely forgotten. It is high time people of India awake and throw up some new leadership. How can we do that?
Not to start a troll here, but Pramod, I would expect an average human being to understand that both parties have flaws, and right wingers and hindutva extremists have done maximum damage to the secular fabric too, “BJP is the only hope” sounds a pretty unreasonable statement to me.
Smitha,
idealistic thoughts; however Give and Take is not something the two national parties would like to indulge in now or ever. As the cliche goes politics is the art of capturing power and holding on to it. Why would any party for that matter indulge in such an exercise if there is nothing in it for them? Greater national interest is just not in their interest as say filibustering
You are spot on about parochial parties playing king makers and having too much of a say; contrary to vox populi. Thats exactly why regional parties love and pray for fractured election verdicts.
on a different note- people are only fooling themselves to think that the BJP will abolish Article 370 and do anything about the ethnic cleansing in Kashmir. Those are the issues one talks about only when one is in the opposition not when in power.
A time has come when we the people have to think about having a two party system. Though the BJP and the Congress are two sides of the same coin, it is still the best viable option for the country at this juncture. Comparing it with the American system is a misplaced notion. The ongoings in the last one week, the (nuisance) value of the 20 odd parties having MPs ranging from 2 to 20 is disgusting and outrageous.

Prakash Karat: Well, the communists have never been sincere or trustworthy, so we will kick out the Cong-I and be back in power to mint money again for our comrades.
Chandrababu Naidu: Maya has to become the PM, only then can I dream of becoming some minister in New Delhi.
L K Advani: I will let Maya become PM since elections are only six months away and by then the public will forget my fascination in the past to praise Jinnah and Pakis.
Actor Dharmendra: My knee surgery in the US is a good excuse while I have no interest in that crazy Parliament. I rather watch the vote and that cartoon Laloo on TV with my favourite Dewar’s scotch

Rahul Ghandi: I have always been retarded, so will watch the crooks play it four the back benches and my gang will wait for our time.
Somnath Chatterjee: I will definitely help whoever lets me become the speaker again!
Pratibha Patil: If I am consulted, I will seek divine advice from the supreme mentor Sai Baba. One he can save this great country.
I think Manmohan Singh Govt will squeak through ! Pity is I am sure more than 90% of the MPs dont know the intricacies of the nuclear deal and they have been asked to vote on it and decide the fate of the govt.
Anybody who can predict tomorrow’s trust vote is living in an ignorant world. It’s a very messy situation, you just cannot take the numbers of each party on its face value because:
Some Shiv sena MPs are abstaining.
Some Akali MPs are abstaining
A JDU MP is being poached.
A few BJD MPs are defecting
A few Cong MPs are defecting
7-8 BSP MPs are in SP camp
SPs strength is being corroded by BSP
BJP is seducing Jallapa and Ambareesh.
Independents are changing their stance every hour.
Single member MPs are holding on to their cards till the vote tomorrow
5 BJP MPs are ailing.
A JDS rebel is contemplating voting for UPA
An RLD relbel is expected to vote for UPA
Speaker Somnath Chatterjee hasn’t broken his silence (is he pro or against or neutral?)
Note: All the above are based on different press reports. Each channel/paper has its own take on who is defecting, who is cross voting and who is abstaining.
So who will you believe? How will anybody figure out this crazy, messy puzzle?
Wait till 10 am morrow. the truth will be out.
I think Congress (I) will manage to win the trust motion by a lowest margin.
Whoever wins the vote tomorrow (it will be raw money power and corruption of the highest order, after all no one cares about the country, nuke deal..etc) , it is a definitely going to be elections within six months and that is the real tragedy!
Because with a hung parliament expected by one and all after the elections, it will be a sad state of instability for the next few quarters with growth, industry, stock market, development projects, infrastructure, power, agriculture…everyone and everything taking a backseat (except inflation and shameless corruption) and the whole nation helplessly, watching and listening with total disappointment to populist statements and ridiculous actions from corrupt politicians of every hue and attitude.
Bhamy Sir,
>>It is high time people of India awake and throw up some new leadership. How can we do that?<<
That is the Trillion dollar question!!!
I am happy UPA won! Biggest losers were the BJP led by OddVani:) Time and again I have been pointing out the disconnect in BJP’s decision to vote with the Left and I was proved right. The least BJP could have done was to abstain and still support the deal. They were foolish to think that money and superior reason would not sway their flock:) How wrong they were!
Also I am happy to know that Dirty Devegowda has taken another rapid stride towards the dust bin. The king of crooks came undone again with his tricks:)
DB,
whats the use of BJP coming out as the loser? Infact coz of this the country is the loser in the long run. This was a high risk very low gain situation and the best thing they could have done is to sit it out, instead they chose to take the risk. As they say in the stock market ‘sometimes the best trade is not to trade at all.’ How could anyone in the BJP not see this… ? What a colossal waste..
Now the only hope for BJP for the 2009 election is for oil to hit $200 ;) otherwise it will be a battle between kaangi and Mayavati for who can take the country more backwards
The one positive aspect of kaangi clinging on to power is that it has stopped Mayavati, atleast for the time being..
I am happy UPA won for the simple reason that we shall have the general election when its due and not before that just for BJP’s top make Advani(advana) PM.
Now the tough time for Yediyurappa starts here
BlackLad
I agree it was the undue haste and greed shown by Oddvani to topple an unpopular UPA! They would have gone any way. By abstaining BJP would have been true to their word–we support N Deal and shit! But thanks to Oddvani and even the likes of Shourie they started disingenuous arguments against that deal. I think MMS did not share the deal details with Left because they would have flogged it to Beijing for a day trip to Shanghai and back for three MPs. I am happy that BJP have paid the price for disowning everythng Vajapayee’s Goet worked hard to achieve. Even Jaswant Sing behaved like a clown completely forgetting he was the man who got the N Deal going in the first place. After this spectacle I was disgusted. And I knew that Amar Singh Ki Amar Kahani fame media manager will get the ght numbers for UPA. This shows how much delusional Oddavni has become!
