Shekhar Gupta in The Indian Express:
“Last week, Somini Sengupta of The New York Times quoted a stunning fact from a report of the Washington-based National Counter-Terrorism Centre. It said, between January 2004 and March 2007, India had lost 3,674 lives to terrorism, second only to Iraq. And we can’t even claim that this is happening because some imperialist occupation army is running amok here. In fact that number, by now, must have crossed 5,000.
“If this notion spreads globally, it would do more to damage India’s image as an oasis of democratic stability, pacifism and economic growth than any twists in its politics, or even a half-decade reform holiday.”

Thats 96 people a month for 38 months.
Still wholeheartedly support the UPA, churumuri? Even as we all live life by mere probability?

This is a shocking statistics by any standard. Besides getting a gross data, can we have an in-depth analysis of this number?
It is also interesting to observe that such a revealing statistics has to be dug up by a foreign owned news paper and not ours? Why? Even after it was shown for 38 months till 2007, why don’t we have one for the last 12 months or since the beginning of the year. Perhaps just like news paper report every day sensex, we need to report on the latest killings and injured by states and by different categories every day. This may sensitize our political set up to do some thing about it. We also need to think of a strategy to get the involvement of all the people of India and not a small section.
I was shot down earlier when i suggested Gandhian fast for Aug 15th. May be others have better ideas to mobilize public opinion against this terrible terrorism which seems to be killing about 100 a day in India.

Not Praveen Tagodia, these are the words of Swami Vivekananda:

There has not been a religion that has clung to this dualism more than that founded by the Prophet of Arabia, and there has not been a religion which has shed so much blood and been so cruel to other men. In the Koran there is the doctrine that a man who does not believe these teachings should be killed; it is a mercy to kill him! And the surest way to get to heaven, where there are beautiful houris and all sorts of sense-enjoyments, is by killing these unbelievers. Think of the bloodshed there has been in consequence of such beliefs!
In the religion of Christ there was little of crudeness; there is very little difference between the pure religion of Christ and that of the Vedanta. You find there the idea of oneness; but Christ also preached dualistic ideas to the people in order to give them something tangible to take hold of, to lead them up to the highest ideal.

You don’t need Somini Sengupta to give you those numbers. Does Shekhar Gupta read only high-falutin NYT or does he also look at desi websites like SATP?
Anyways, that’s beside the point, but more pertinent question: guess which newspaper ran a vicious campaign against POTA when it was being enacted? Which newspaper read “anti-Muslim” conpsiracies into it?
To that question, Gupta — the purportedly sane one, I mean — will feign ignorance, as much as he is feigning concern now for the lives lost to terrorism. That’s what is called running with the hare and hunting with the hound. He’d actually sound more honest justifying the government’s 3-crore-per-MP scheme.

It is surprising that this fact was caught so late by the media. Most of the aam aadmis irrespective of their party loyalties have been seeing it all along. The opposition and allies of the government were expected to take the ruling party to task on this point instead of making hollow noises over non issues.

If you kill one person, then you are a murderer. If you kill a few, you are a serial killer. If you kill ten or more, you are a Hero and most fit to be the Member of parliament or a member of legislative assembly. You will be pardoned by all, as you lay down your gun in a special public function and you will be rehabilitated with the tax payers expense. Your interest will be protected by the welfare associations for life.

This is not a new fact. SATP- KPS Gill’s organization mentioned this fact many months back. I heard Modi quoting same thing in one of his speeches (in Youtube).
Its a GAME being played by media and most political parties to hoodwink people on terrorism, raise no issue, suppress real issues of islamism, terrorism for Muslim votebank.
Media kept complete silence at the anniversary of 711 mumbai bombing. Govt not even issued one statement.
MAKE NO MISTAKE- ISLAMIC TERRORISM IS HERE TO STAY IN AND AROUND INDIA – THE MOST DANGEROUS NEIGHBORHOOD ON EARTH , FOR A VERY LOOOOOONG PERIOD OF TIME.
Change terror law – its not ordinary crime
empower intelligence
Enforce ALREADY PRONOUNCED COURT ORDERS like on illegal infiltration
Enforce court order
Stop votebank politics
Else, the price we ALL are going to pay will be tremedous, unimaginable.
I am NOT of those people who believe Hindus will be wiped out. Rather, we will see Hindu suicide bombers and terrorists, massive radicalism of Hindus.
Tolerance does NOT fall from the sky, or cannot be enforced by enacting a law/constitutional amendment sitting in Delhi. Its developed, has roots in the society when everyday hindus and muslims meet in their day to day life.
As Islamism grows phenomenally, and media, political parties out to create more “victimhood” amongst muslims, politically, emotionally separate them thro different means like Sachar etc etc – its going to cut the very shared existance and affect shared existance.
Sudhindranath Dutta, one of the finest modern Bengali poet once wrote:
“even if you are blind, the pralaya (death/destruction) does not stop”.
Indian media, votebank centric parties are behaving like blind and dumb.

This shows how fanaticism, islamism has grown even in Britain. Thankfully, british media, political parties have a far more strong view on this issue than us in India.
