P.N. Vasanti in Mint:
“The recent case of a double murder in Noida received 3,464 minutes of coverage in one month (16 May-16 June)— almost 70 times more (on an average) than the agrarian crisis (an estimated 3,000 farmer deaths in one year). One of the key reasons for such excessive coverage can be attributed to the location of the crime. A similar event in Madras or Calcutta may not have received the same attention.”

It is a pity that 3000 farmers deaths gets neglected by our media moghuls who keep saying all high things in the shows.

Well, from the same news source there is an article by Salil Tripathi ,a London-based writer, who has heavily criticized this regular insult that is inflicted on the Indian Media.
He writes, very sensibly,
“By juxtaposing a fashion event with the Vidarbha farmers’ suicides, Sainath is pitting the so-called India against Bharat, or “shining” India versus “declining” India. Far from solving any problem, it accentuates an unnecessary divide. “.
The P.Sainath here is of course the famous Hindu Senior journalist/ Rural Affairs editor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P._Sainath . A great man, Magsaysay award winner etc. But he is often criticized for putting forth such views.
I request Churmuri not to resort to delivering such reports aimed at mere sensationalism. They do carry merit, which I don’t deny, but you are forcing an distorted opinion onto the readers.

Dr. Reddy,
Life goes on. Oh BTW what is the point in just writing about farmers suicides…it is better to offer real help in the form of deferred loan payments or atleast outright waver to farmers who are very poor. Even counseling should be offered to them on a priority basis,,,

What is the point in discussing the TV coverage?
They are in it to make money and reporting news is just incidental.

What is the point in TV coverage? – It just means that we are somewhat bothered about their suicide. And notihng wrong if TV channels make money out of it, as far as they are successfull in taking it to people.
