All the world is a bed, and there is no mattress softer than stone, for the tired limbs of coolies and loaders aching to catch a few winks after a morning of hard work, below the Mysore road flyover in Bangalore on Wednesday.
The empty bamboo basket serves as a pillow, staving off the dust and sound of vehicles whizzing past, but it is also an insurance to prevent somebody from making away with the device that helped stuff a few rupees in their pocket.

This mimicking of “sleeper cell”, “soft state” when more people died in India than Afghanistan due to Islamic terror is a costly venture for a section of media, intellectuals!
Goal of Jehadis are many: state’s economic existance, growth, industry are prime targets. So, wake up and take stock of the situation.
Because, the day Jehadis will be successful (so far they are) to affect economy, we all will perish. More heat will be felt by these daily wagers.
The affluent in the Country have been having a free ride given by the Govt.
Subsidised Diesel.
Subsidised Petrol.
Subsidised LPG.
They move around in Gas Guzzling Cars… They are Blood Suckers. Create a strain on the environment. Invoke the Govt to take huge loans from World Bank and IMF in the name of Infrastructure Projects. Corrupt the Govt servants with their money power.
The poor who consitute a majority have to bear the brunt.
Basic education and Primary health Care is not within their reach.
The desperate nation requires desperate solution. Not spin doctors…
Who keep yelling that India is incredible.
60 years of corruption has sunk us neck deep
@ Tatagatha Mukherjee: get a life, darling. If you cannot look at a picture in Bangalore without bloviating about “Islamic Terror”, “Jehad” and Afghanistan, there must be something the matter with your water supply.
Stop breeding. Stick to the one child policy. Beleive me it is going to get much worse if we don’t do something about the population boom. Yesterday I had given my car for service and took an autorickshaw ride back from my office. The driver told me he lives in his own house (in a slum near murgeshpalya) and has four beautiful children he is very proud of. He earns 6 to 8K per month and he feels that he is the happiest man in the world. I did not know whether to laugh or cry.
And here I was a parent of one kid and this kid was brought into existence after my doctor wife and myself decided after a lot of deliberation on whether we were rich enough to afford a good quality life to our offpsring.
I dont think this applies to all the people who blog and comment here as we are all educated individuals. But there is a different world out there folks. The people on the other side of the digital divide. Who have no clue what standard of living is. They live in squalor and filth and still are made to beleive that they have a great life. We are all doomed.
Paditaratna,
You are right that One child policy is a need of the hour. However we have IT Chief’s going to town stating that its a Human capital and population is a blessing.
As though these folks have given jobs to 90% of the population.
We will be doomed in another 10 years.
Vision 2020 is going to face challenges of mamoth proportion…..
India is still dependent on other nation’s for many of the goods.
Now the AC 3T, and 2nd class 3T in train travel is like this with the introduction of an extra sleeper and an added cabin.
Railway’s are making profit!
