Tuesday’s attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore, on top of the November 26 terror attack on Bombay, raises a fundamental question: Is international cricket on the subcontinent in danger of being held hostage by terrorism?
Will cricketers be able to visit India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka with the same freedom they did? Will the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), scheduled to start next month, go on without trouble? Or will foreign players pull out? Will the World Cup in 2011 go on as scheduled? Or is it in danger?

Pathetic attempt by Churumuri to hyphenate India with Talibanistan.
No. The 2011 World Cup is not in danger. Just than it will be held at a safer place. Guess anyway it would have happened at a different place.
boards will ensure that the matches will be played, the revenue from TV rights outweighs all other things , also, itching to see some linkage b/w the Lahore incident and the LTTE.
Cricket is in danger only in Pakistan. Not anywhere else in Asia. Thats because Pakistan as a nation is in dangererous position.
Does Pak now realise the cost of riding tiger(terrorists).Fortunately no SL cricketer is seriously injured.
Only an insane fool would travel to Pakistan at this time. Karachi is in danger of being taken over by the Taliban because they have built safe houses, bunkers and bases stocked with arms and ammunition all over the city. They can attack from within, whenever they wish to. And only someone who stores his brains down there would go to Quetta or Rawalpindi.
India is completely safe. I’m not saying this out of any jingoistic nationalistic feelings, but this is the truth. Our work is going on, daily life is proceeding as it always has, the country is in no danger of coming apart.
There is no comparison.
Gurugale, can you please explain me the reason why you taking the names India and Pakistan in the same line/breath? India thanksfully is still a long way away from where Pak is now
Hold the world cup virtually on second life… saves lots of trouble…
Forget about cricket my dear.
Already a minister from PPP of Pakistan has told Geo TV, that India is behind the attack on Srilankan Team. This was supported by the Commissioner of Lahore.
This below poll is for churumuri alone
* RAW and Indian Army is behind the attack
* Extremist Hindutva forces such as rama sene and their training camps behind the attack
* Some LTTE supporting Tamilians from TN are behind the attack
* Non-state Indian players are behind the attack
The itch is satisfied!!!

LTTE in Sri Lanka, Lashkar-e-Toyba in Pakstan, Hujis in Bangladesh, and a large but sundry group of violence mongers in India.
A terrorist organisation no longer stays within the borders of its own country. Rajiv Gandhi’s assasination showed us this.
What to do? Create an organisation like the Interpol and let no nation be placed outside its jurisdiction.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2009/mar/03/pakistan-sri-lanka-terrorism-lahore-icc
The blog exlains lucidly as to why teams will come back to India despite the terror attacks in Mumbai. And also why they wont go to Pakistan despite their security assurances.
One point which I would have loved the author to have made is that the cricketing world understands that India is a victim of terrorism that originates outside its boundaries, while all of Pakistan’s problems its its own making.
Of course now the Home Ministry is concerned that the IPL and the general elections will happen at the same time and thus stretch the security forces. Being the ruthless cunning guy he is, am sure Lalit Modi will sort this out too… profitably!
“kandavara makkalanna bhavige ilisi aala nododu”, asking someone else’s kids to get into the well for checking the depth!
Are cricket fans nuts? They want to have their pound of flesh of game watching by exposing the cricketers to risk in a crazy country like Pakistan! After 26/11, after Swat Valley concord and after today’s shootout, if cricketers and cricket fans still salivaite at the thought of 2011 cricket, both need their heads to be examined by a shrink!
Pathetic attempt by Churumuri to club Pakistan and India together by using the term “SOUTH ASIA” .. Stupid question.
Why only Cricket World Cup, 2010 Delhi Commonwealth games is under big threat.
There was a report in the Hindustan Times (few months back) that bombs, rdx, plastic explosives have been planted in the buildings/facilities that are being built for Asiad Delhi. All those will come home to roost when actual Asian games undergo.
Quodos to Churumuri, NDTV…. who spent hours and hours behind Mangalore while Jehadis have been breeding thick and fast.
India is the target- alas, a section of our media, politicians are hell bent to make it successful.
(Plastic explosives are already on its way to Delhi and rest of India using West Bengal and Assam Corridor. All these plastic explosives can’t be found using traditional instruments used by security forces.)
Firstly I fail to understand why must three nations stage the world cup jointly. It will generate security complications besides logistics hassles. India can and should hold it alone.
Secondly, not long ago PCB had a senior official who was related by his son’s marriage to a criminal who is not only wanted in India but also has a Interpol red alert in his name.
Add to that the death of their South African coach in rather hazy circumstances 2 years back and today’s shocking gun-attack on the Sri Lankan cricketers.
By all means, the international cricketing boards should jointly ask the PCB to cleanse itself of its malaise before they can think of hosting cricket matches in a nation that is slowly being consumed by Taliban.
There are too many instances of terrorist destruction in countries other than their own.
It is stupid to equate india and pakistan. It is high time bcci started lobbying to get all world cup matches held in india.
oh by the way, a certain bokachoda couldn’t resist bringing up mangalore in a totally unrelated thread. Now, what personal agenda can he possibly have?

Economists apart, the CAG has been compelled to make severe strictures on the gross irresponsibility that has resulted in these deficits, and charge the government with heaping burdens on future generations.
Well, though it is stupid to equate India and Pakistan, we are beginning to hear small murmurs in the ‘West’ about cancellation of the commonwealth games and the 2011 world cup. Very predictably, an Australian has started this murmur about cancelling events, or moving them to a different venue. Most of these people talk of India and Pakistan in the same breath and refer to it as ‘dangers in South Asia’.
Wonder how we are going to get out of this situation of constantly being equated and compared with this tumour called Pakistan.
I am waiting for an article by Arundhati Roy sympathising with the Lahore terrorists and linking attack to ‘ genocide ‘ in Lanka!
A.Roy mayn’t do that because the ‘ victims ‘ in Lanka are Tamils and Hindus.
There is inherent need for Pakistani elements who have loyalty to SAUDI ARABIA TO spoil IPL 2. They want india and pakistan to get bad name so that INVESTMENTS by big fat cats of both countries go to Dubai and Riyadh.
Already people in filmland like Amitabh, aishwarya, Shah ruk khan have invested in Dubai.
Well said Coffee Addict !
Also that Sadhvi or that Colonel could be behind all this…lets wait for
ATS (All Terrorists are Saints) report…
I hope at least it would give a good reason to stop this stupid game and thus our youngsters (and also others) will act in a saner way. British and Cricket have spoiled our country.
@Janasamanya,
I am sorry. British made India what it is today. I am always grateful to them.
well siadsir, now cricket is not just a game it is a business! where only few people will make profit and our people and youngsters will waste their valuable time and money, the attack is shocking and moreever teerorsits need to be answered in their own way.And the thing about dubai i am leaving in sharjah but here pakistanis are not well treated if a pakistani has enter dubai he has to face many cheks and a clean chit from the local police ,Dubai is the safe place when compared to india here women are respected a lot and the local people never suppport terrorsim and they value and give respect to india and indians a lot.dubai is the big market for bollywood here any one can invest in construcution field.

Folks check out this forum. These paki idiots are giving some much credit to the so called ‘RAW’… They are equating RAW to CIA,Mossad etc. We may even have our own ‘007’ that we don’t know :)
It brings a perverse satisfaction to the Indian Liberal by seeing India bracketed with Pakistan. They seem to be saying; “You may “think” you hate us..but we will make you realize you actually love us!”
India by itself, and god forbid a Hindu India, is so “selfish” and against all notions of “égalité and fraternité” Liberals love to cherish.
With such “co-hosting”, they feel a part of their dream come to life because it has always been their dream to see these Nations together inspite of their deep differences.

Coffee addict – “I am sorry. British made India what it is today. I am always grateful to them.”
– Pleasant surprise! I agree with you.
Sorry to digress from the thread a little bit.
If Hindus displayed half the hatred they have toward British rule to Muslim rule preceding, we would be saved and would be much closer to the truth.
But I’m not sure if Hindus actually don’t show such hatred. I think the presence of Muslims amongst us makes them and it (Muslim rule) more “native” than foreign. This poses a different challenge altogether.
Funnily, I’ve always wondered what Hindus would have thought of British Rule if Anglo-Indians had been anywhere as numerous as Muslims and as aggressive too :) This analogy because, like our Muslims, our Anglo-Indians feel a close affinity with our former rulers.
Much as I love cricket, I would not mind if the World Cup is shifted to a different venue maybe in exchange for a possibility of hosting a future World Cup. Under the current circumstances, though India is the least affected among the four South Asian countries that have a major stake in cricket we would still have major security issues if it is jointly hosted.
Vinay,
Wonder how we are going to get out of this situation of constantly being equated and compared with this tumour called Pakistan.
It is the liberal media, like Churumuri, which is equating India and Pakistan. Or in diplomatic terms “hyphenating” these. Western media just takes the cue from these liberal bleeding hearts of India.
