Q1 has 2 possibilities, Q2: 3(max) 2(practical purposes), Q3: 3 or 4 or 5(Mayawati and who from CPM? this is tough)
=> I must make at least 20 entries here, in different IDs, covering all combinations. But since I am lazy, I will say the one with the most probability: 1) Congress 2) UPA 3) Manmohan Singh. I am quite confident about (1), but 2 is a little more dicey, and 3: quite sure!

Karihaida and Ashok have predicted Mayawati to be our next PM. In the same vein I would like to predict K. Chandra Sekhar Rao (KCR of TRS@AP) to be our next PM.
The days of Deve Gowdas becoming PM, out of blue, are over long back. So never dream of Mayawati to become PM. She is a name unheard beyond some parts of UP. Rest of the Indian voters are not as dumbas UPites to support her as CM/PM.

My take on NDA’s loss:
1. Nuclear Deal was a ‘Big Deal’ for India and UPA. Time and again I warned OddVani and the bloggers on Churumuri that NDA was heading towards disaster by trying to split hairs with the Nuclear Deal, it’s nuanced opposition and shit! Worse they even appeared to side with the Communists who had always the interests of China in their hearts. Sadly I was proved right :(
2. Kandahar Hijack — OddVani did a deft side-step on the issue claiming only ole Vajpayee was responsible; the electorate saw through the duplicitous OddVani and realized “Even being a Home Minister he was not in the loop on this one; So he must be a duffer.” Also, everybody knew that Vajpayee was being ‘indirectly insulted’ as a “weak-kneed” PM which he was because of knee surgery. Also, Indians knew that Vajapayee was a good PM and they did not like him being disrespected by OddVani.
3. The Jinnah factor –nobody dead or alive in India today cares about Jinnah. OddVani was waxing lyrical about Jinnah’s secular credentials. Once again the electorate was smart enough to see the Con Man CodVani’s moves as a non-issue.
4. Modi trying to be a greater ‘Paki’ than the ‘Pakis’
After continuously sniping at the Governments efforts to get the 26/11 attackers from Pakistan and their backers on the mat, Modi committed a cardinal sin: he hinted at local support for the opearation. This did not go well with electorate because the general wisdom was nobody would deliberately appear to weaken ‘India’s case’ in the incident and Modi did it with effortles ease. The results are here to see today!
6. Calling MMS a remote-controlled PM. Although factually correct, the same weak PM got the Nuclear Deal for India against all odds! For that alone I am willing to overlook his other non-achievements in the office. Just witness the arm-twisting that is going on in ADB loan over some water projects in Arunachal Pradesh today! and to think that the BJP clowns were willing to take a nuanced position on Nuclear Deal defies sense! Once again the electorate realized the weak PM can still deliver if given a second chance? Just hoping MMS will redeem himself fully now.
7. Foul machinations of Rajnath Singh
UP and other states were lost because Rajnath installed his men who were total duffers in party positions. Fighting with Arun Jaitley, Rajnath ensured that he was in it for money and power.
That is all for now…

DB – Your post still does not explain the BJP’s major successes in some states. I think you are missing the wood for the trees.
If your watching TV now, just listen to the arguments anti-BJP commenters are making. They have not touched upon any of the issues you list. Still the BJP spokesmen are hard pressed to even refute the most illogical arguments. We must understand that there is a much deeper malaise afflicting the BJP. That is the failure to articulate it’s ideology except in terms which guarantee the BJP failure.
This nonsense of missing Vajpayee on the campaign proves my point.
Please look at Karnataka and Gujarat. Why do you think your list did not work here?

Friendsville,
BJP won a few states because they did some development work excepting Karnataka. In our State, the elecctorate prefectly understand TMK (Thandhe Makkala Kaachi) and Congress misrule! Also security at the national level somewhat improved with the removal of Tharadu Sattha Patil…ultimately greater accountability for the nation on al matters is important. BJP did not read the signals right! Look at Delhi Elections? They went with a few geriatric faces who already enjoyed their immense tarnished reputations! They lost and how!
Again you don’t seem to appreciate the ‘treachery; by BJP on Nuclear Deal and Mumbai 26/11 aftermath…the middleclass is uncomfortable with that level of ‘nuancemanship’….

LK Advani “louh purush” dream was unrealised and India slowly but surely will become a uniparty , dynastic regime.
All credit goes to master strategist Advani. BJP could have become alternative party, which would have provided a choice for the India. But, the Advani and Modi made sure through their “strategies”, if you call one, excluded 200 Million Citizens from supporting it, who happen to be Muslims. They did not stop at that, but carried on to Christian, in kandamal, Manglore and did not spare mudding YSR.
All would have not lost if they had been Party of “Hindus” atleast. But no, they tried every trick to become party of “some hindus”.
A party who have such a narrow base, how can they hope to provide alternate leadership? Hope BJP leadership now introspect and shun its narrow divisional politics and appeal to all sections of society.
Where is the much talked about “chanukyan” Brahmins in BJP? even Nitish can appeal to all sections, being associated with BJP., why can’t BJP itself? Is it too much upreed buddi or lack of pragmatism?

Anonymous Guy – I say secularism is dead in Karnataka and all the states where the BJP did well. That’s “loser gas” for you. Go suck on it for a while.
Khan – The BJP does not exclude Muslims. Muslims exclude themselves. For that matter, Muslims will not be able to get a house in a Congressi Hindu colony. Don’t you know that already? Accept the fact that Muslims do not want to merge. They like being separate and exclusive. I don’t mind that at all. That’s their right and wish. But I hate this complaining after the wish is granted.
Muslims cannot help themselves because they cannot go with a party that identifies at least theoretically, with Hindus. And what do you mean “some” Hindus? Let’s go over caste wise vote shares of the BJP. Come up with the data and prove to me that only so called upper castes voted for BJP. You know this is nonsense.
Anti-BJP fellows are quick to trash the BJP’s ideological basis every time it fails to do well at the hustings. But every other time, these same fellows are disappointed. Please remember that the BJP and NDA remain the second largest party and formation in this country. Try not to depend on their continued ideological confusion to keep secular fellows happy. Because that is probably the only thing you can depend on. What will happen when the BJP gets its act together? Then what can I expect you and your likes to say?
