Indeed, as the Proust Questionnaire in Vanity Fair magazine shows, staccato answers can reveal more about a person than whole pages.
A number of publications use the Proust Questionnaire as a device to draw out people. The Hindu Business Line featured Bhamy V. Shenoy this week.

I am surprised Bhamy V Shenoy has not answered “I enjoy opposing any and all development activities in Mysore in the name of ecology/heritage/preserving history/pollution (choose one)” to any of the questions.
Bhamy and small group of people in Mysore who oppose any change will be cursed by next generation for making Mysore one of the most backward areas in state (in 20-30 years)
It’s time some qualification requirements are introduced before someone calls himself “Social Activist” and blocks all development activities.

Some organisations like MGP make people feel that citizens too have a voice in what ever is decided by the government, though the word ‘government’ used to mean by all the people including the common folk.(not land and building mafia, liquor barons and traders alone.)
So, could you please enumerate the developmental projects blocked by BVS which you feel were detrimental to the progress of Mysooru. In fact, shouldn’t all of us become activists, why leave that only for BVS? And why is it necessary to have qualifications for that other than be aware of ones rights and responsibilities in the society.? Or do we have to get degrees from one-room universities abroad and the internet to be an activist?

I think that the problem is not about activism or not, it is just that we are too intent on becoming “developed” in the American way, e. g. less regard for environment and heritage places; more gas guzzling high speed cars rather than eco friendly technology on our vehicles; work day and night to earn more money, to the extent that there is no time for family and frnds, let alone family and frnds, ppl don’t have time to spend the money they earn on anything except commodities and accessories.
Its seems to be the case with most of the ppl i know(young and old). So is this a question of activism or a question of mindset?

The recent road widening plan of MCC which was thwarted by the citizens is a classic example of how one of the best avenues of the City was saved (for now). Everyone in the administration except few wanted the road to be widened while obvious alternatives existed.
We should lend our support to NGOs and start questioning MCC/MUDA.
