A screenshot of Google Trends around 3.30 pm on Thursday, 3 September 2009, on how the wired world tried to search for news of Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, whose death following the crash of a helicopter carrying him and his staff was finally confirmed.
Somehow I cant help feel that, the whole episode was given an unprecedented hype & hoopla which was absolutely uncalled for and was completely blown up out of proportion by all the leading visual media . The media would have been better off focussing on more burning issues which need more impetus towards their solution. This, with all due respects for the CM of a state ,both for the person & for the position.

I have not known him, nor is he from my home state. I did not know how good a CM he was. But on hearing about the news, I was glued to the TV through out the day. And it was a very sad news that came in the end. From the response of the the BJP, TDP, Chiranjeevi and the Congress it seems he was a leader liked by all. If so, can we fault the media for giving it 24 hr coverage? Wish our leaders too are like him, energetic, active and liked by all.

Don’t know what all the hype is about. He’s just one of the millions who die everyday.

The Congress and the religion of Vatican should be thankful to Hiker, for bringing up the matter, even if it appeared as an intolerant, decadent reaction!!!! Through his actions YSR was a real pride to his party and religion, i.e the Congress and the religion of Vatican. But, YSR had touched the heart and soul of all Andhrites, not the Congress party and his religious group in Andhra alone. It is indicated by the decision of the BJP and other parties to fly the flags half mast, and not just doing the customary lip service alone..

Thanks for the link. I read that report and emailed the following response to Vatican Radio (along with an attachment of a photo of YSR bowing at Tirupati):
Dear Vatican Radio (“The voice of the Pope”),
I am surprised by your report of September 3 (http://www.radiovaticana.org/in2/Articolo.asp?c=313791):
The bishop of Hyderabad, describes the Chief Minister as “a model politician and leader. All have benefited from his inclusive politics, especially the poor and marginalized. He has never acted to discriminate on the basis of caste or creed”. A Christian who was “never afraid to declare his faith”, Reddy was . . .
My response, for your consideration:
1. You have not identified the bishop, even though earlier in the story you identified an archbishop.
2. If YSR were a “model politician and leader,” clearly, the anonymous bishop has very low expectations.
3. Please see the attached picture run by Deccan Herald on September 3 and sourced to PTI: “File photo of Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy at Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirupati this June.” It may suggest how proud — or how fake — was YSR the Christian.

Hopefully, Reddy’s tragic adventure should finally stop his counterpart in Karnataka from shamelessly using the poor tax payers money to fly on the chopper and visit every single swami and temple in the state.
