On Thursday night, Al Jazeera English devoted a full half-hour to a calm, clear and cogent discussion on why India and China are at loggerheads on “the longest disputed border in the world”, and what it means for the two countries especially in the context of India’s growing proximity to the United States.
Al Jazeera also pulled of a coup of sorts by getting an exclusive with P Chidambaram before the Chihuahuas of Indian Television could lecture him on the polemics of terrorism. That interview too, went well.

About the Chinese incursions, I had thought Churumuri would come up with a poll “Are Chinese incursions Indian business?”.
The reporter says : “There are obvious cultural connections here with China”.
What is the “obvious” “cultural connection” that Ladakh has with China I wonder…wait a minute, I got it! Buddha was born in Beijing and Buddhism originated in Shanghai and majority of Ladakhis are Buddhists.

This is a well conducted discussion. A lot of the points mentioned are already known to Indian viewers. However, it was nice to see some external viewpoints.

I think that Mohan Guruswamy tripped up a bit by letting the host call Arunachal Pradesh (AP) a “disputed territory.” The existence of AP is not disputed but the border with China along AP is. If we don’t take steps to correct such mistakes at its source, it will snowball into larger controversies and may cause China to claim the whole state of AP as disputed.
I think that China tried something like this recently when India tried to get a loan approved at the Asian Development Bank for a developmental project in AP.
Otherwise, a good interview. The Canadian guest came across as quite knowledgeable, the Chinese guest as defensive and the Indian guest as typically Indian (ie, “there’s nothing wrong here, so no need to worry!”).

two things:
#1. mahan psyops in hamish mcdonald’s report. he says: 1)for centuries part of an independent region ladakh. 2)but now piece of india. 3) there are obvious cultural connections with china.
i have no issues with 1. but describing ladakh’s relation to india a “piece”, and to china as “obvious culturally”, is ignorant at best and racist at worst. just because they have mongloid features does not make them chinese. the han chinese consider all others as distinct and inferior to them. and only an ignorant fool would look at a tibetan and call him chinese. chinese have distinct features. in anycase, ladakh is closely related to tibet. and tibet is culturally is closer to india than it is to china. even their language, script and grammar and social structure, the names they give themselves have more in common with india than to china. in general connections are historically deeper with india than to china. worse, a good chunk of china’s history is connected to ours, as ours is to to theirs. but we have no problem with it. but china is now on imperialistic impulse. and its main grouse is it cannot manufacture a sound connection between tibet and india and undo its own connection to india. and has to couch its imperialism in other ways.
#2. that andrew guy is a mahan liar and pretender. china is perhaps the greatest proliferator of modern times.

having said these, india and china are old civilizations. and the world can accommodate both. overall india has a reasonable approach to china. they both set about modernizing their people and societies at the same time. took different routes. perhaps in keeping with their respective ethos. results are for all to see. no need to elaborate on this. ofcourse all this will not go down well with those who think that the indian calendar started with their fav. people presiding over dilli. but as they say, you can take a donkey to water, you cant make it drink.

Hi,
There would have been atleast 100 comments if only the item posted is about Ash’s tiff with salman or Dhoni’s tiff with Raina. That is how our socalled edcuated class view about their nation , its security needs and needs of ordinary soldiers.
This comes out of NOT a single son or daughter of these ruling classes from FICCI,CII ever enetering in competion to IMA or NDA or IAF.Varnashrma dharma, you see.
Now we have a new class of corepathi politicians whose sons and daughters like YSR,son,Mahajans daughter Poonam or Karunanidhi’s son and daughter etc etc etc cutting across party lines ruling us by feudal election.
I have seen an attack by Chinese well inside LAC into my post in 1965. in which i lost three of our countrymen. Does anyone remember this incident. No way. They are just statistics to these chatterring classes.
