After 17 years—three more than Lord Rama‘s exile—and 48 six-monthly extensions, the Justice Manmohan Singh Liberhan commission’s Rs 7 crore quest into the “truth” behind the demolition of the Babri Masjid is bearing fruition. The Indian Express reports that the entire top leadership of the BJP—not just usual suspects like L.K. Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, but also Atal Behari Vajpayee—has been indicted by the commission along with the “cultural organisation”, RSS.
But, reveals the paper, the then prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, who took the UP chief minister Kalyan Singh‘s assurance on face value and presided over the demolition, has more or less got a clean chit. As indeed has Rajiv Gandhi, whose decision to open the locks of the masjid ostensibly to make up with Hindus for his government’s cop-out to Muslim fundamentalists in the Shah Bano episode.
What is the one question you are dying to ask Justice Liberhan? Keep your queries short, civil and quick.
Q – What made you come up with report so fast, you could have taken your own time – Why so much of hurry and enthusiasm to submit the report that soon?
Wow! great! Now ban BJP and RSS. Good riddance.
Why clean chit for Narasimha Rao and Congress…
If it was just Yet Another Tamasha YAT, why so late?
If you had to go clean chit to the old wily fox, what prevented you till now??
Never mind BJP/RSS at the present self destructive state is what really pushed you— right? to give them some oxygen and ideas for another blood soaked yatra?
Mr. Liberhan,
Regarding the leakage of your report, you made a statement saying “I am not that characterless”.
You milked an commision opportunity for 17 years to keep yourself employed, at a cost of 8cr rupees to the govt. and umpteen more for various other agencies and people concerned.
So, For our benefit do tell us exactly how characterless are you?
Justice Liberhan…You could have waited for a few more years until the death of all the accused. Everybody would have been happy. Why, why Justice Liberhan??? What was the tearing hurry???? 17 years was too early.
This is yet another a biased report like ohters remember justice nanavati commision and ohters . Our government is just busy in safeguarding the minority interest, now it is nearly one year after 26\11 anybody from govt is bothered about it? This is simply waste of common mans hard earned money.Instead of blaming bjp rss etc take some strong measures sothat no 26\11 happen in ur country mear bharat mahan!
Why did it take you 16 years to come up with a statement of the obvious?
Ban BJP and so called cultural organization RSS.
Don’t shout at the journalists, Hon”ble Mr. Justice M.S. Liberhan. Who will shout at you for having taken your own sweet time of almost 17 long years with 48 extensions at Rs.8 crores on the exchequer for the investigation? Shall we appoint another commission to probe into “Who leaked the report to the newspaper?”
Justice Mr Liberhan,
Don’t PV Narasimha Rao’s act of ommission, by his masterly inactivity, and Rajiv Gandhi’s act of commission of opening the locked doors amount to culpable involement in the eventual demolition of the disupted structure (I prefer to use ‘disputed structure’ because even the Supreme Court has not been able to decide)? Why was not the entire things looked into?
Only fools would believe in commissions. No commission worth the paper its report is printed on ever came out with facts. It is the easiest way for the Government of the day to appoint so called enquiry commission, just to evade the issue and shut everybody’s mouth saying that it is sub-judice and sub-sub-judice.
Did you people notice how vehement Mr. Liberhan was while replying to press, who were asking questions on behalf of common man of this country.
If Mr. Liberhan has found out after 17 year enquiry the profound truth that Mr. Vajpaye was onen of the architects of Babri Masjid Demolition, why not put him in jail. The Government is afraid to do that because they think that BJP would gain public sympathy for the next general election.
They dont5 want to do that but they are happy to throw some tar on Mr. Vajpaye’s face. By the by Mr. Liberhan it appears never summoned Mr. Vajpaye to his commission or enq1uired him. So my question to Mr. Liberhan is..
How did you indict Mr. Vajpaye without summoning him and conducting an enquiry over him in your ‘commission’? If you had released your report 5 yers earlier he would be in a position to defend himself. Now he is bed ridden and can not defend himself or shout down people like you did today?
Under Indian law it is illegal to pass judgement on a person without hearing him. When even Kasab is patiently being heard before passing judgement, why are we allowing Mr. Liberhan to get away with a indictment on a national leader, without giving a chance of self-defense to the condemned?
For all of you who are shouting to include PVN and Rajeev’s name in the report…remember this commission was set up by congress, and hence the scope of this commission does not include investigations into the ommission/commission of the above personalities…
for that we need to set up another commission, preferably under Ex Minister Shankaranand a la Bofors inquiry fame…no wait…didn’t he die recently… so we can set up a commission under Jaffer Sharrif ;)
I take it back…it is better Justic Bannerjee of the Godhra train inquiry fame lead this commission
“why are we allowing Mr. Liberhan to get away with a indictment on a national leader, without giving a chance of self-defense to the condemned?”
What do you suggest? Some justice delivered – Shiv/Ram sene style?
Dr. Madhav Godbole, then Union Home Secretary already wrote the truth behind all this twice – once in his memoirs, Unfinished Innings published in 1996, and then in a review of Narasimha Rao’s book – all this years and years ago. The truth has always been out there, it doesn’t take 17 years to find it. What have you told us, Mr. Liberhans that he has not categorically stated before? We prefer his truth for it’s veracity to yours.
Hope BJP meets its death of all these slow poisoning :)
“What do you suggest? Some justice delivered – Shiv/Ram sene style?”
I neither suggest nor beleive in either shiva-rama sene style or Maoist style or Kasab style justice. What I wanted was people to notice the legal lacuna in indicting somebody without hearing him. If you chose to ignore it you are welcome.
This Liberhan commison report is just a smokescreen to dampen the public outrage against the 26/11 terrorist attack. It is timed very close to 26/11 so that the congress backed media can debate and shout on the Babri issue.
Mr. Liberhan,
Why so urgency in providing the report. You could have taken some more time. Why did u was waste only 8crs u could have spent some more amount of our money(HAPLESS INDIANS). Where is the name of Mr. RajivGandhi the Main Culprit in all this episode. With the money you have earned in this Last 17 or 18 years have nice Retirement Mr Liberhan.
A new commission should be constituted to enquire into the role of Rajeev Gandhi, Arun Nehru, Veer Bahadur Singh, N.D Tiwari, P V Narisimbha Rao and GB Pant behind the Babri Masjid controversy. It will take another 17 years to submit the report, till then most of the people involved would not be among us but the controversy will remain. By this way, we may keep this issue alive for our generations to come to increase vote bank and to divert the mind of a common man from the socio-economic issues of the country.
What one means by characterless? Nobody should feel guilty if one has done his duty honestly, sincerely, impartially. Indians had very good opinion about judiciary and the judges. Now everything is changing. No need to proclaim to the world that one a paragon of virtue. The country has not forgotten Shaw Commssion and what happened to its reports> Disputed report about the disputed demoliton of the disputed structure.
