On the Zee Marathi show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Tamilian Abhilasha Chellam sings Aata vajle ki bara from the Marathi movie Natrang.

Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries Limited, at a book release in London:
“We are all Indians first. Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi belong to all Indians. That is the reality…. India’s corporate world has moved away from ‘licence raj’ after economic liberalisation, Mumbai’s poor taxi-wallah is still dealing with licence raj.”

Here we have a girl who sings well, but you long with those with the minds similar to Raj Thackeray want to label the talent according to some criteria which in practice doesnt make any sense.
I find it really sad because you and the times of India have proven that there is no difference between you and Raj Thackeray. We are back to the basic question of being who is a so called Maharashtrian. A person born in Maharashtra and who speaks Marathi, or a person whose has at least ‘k’ of the last ‘n’ people in the family tree above them born in Maharasthra or are so called Maharastrian according to the criteria specified by you or Raj Thakeray.
To keep it simple, both of you are trying categorize people according to some inconsistent and non-productive way of categorizing humans. If I were to follow the same principles of categorizing and classifying people, then according to me the racists, fascists, nazis, the east-india company, and the masters of slavery fall in the same category as you and Raj Thakeray do.
Your words are very provocative just like Raj Thackerays so stop such cheap gimmics to increase your page views. It is non-productive and has a future of darkness for everyone.
@Ashwin
I have sen many incoherent rants on churumuri… but that takes it to a new level. Wow.
I think the simple point is that the categories of Marathi = Speaker of marathi only is a false one and Raj Thackeray is engaging in violence in the name of this false categorization of human beings.
Dunno what’s so provocative to the whole of humanity (“racists, fascists, nazis, the east-india company, and the masters of slavery”???!!!!) abt taking up Raj Thackeray on his bullshit.
Its a bit like saying that those who sympathized with the Jews are as bad as the Nazis because they are classifying Jews as Jews. WTF?
Why not broad base this argument and include KRV who talk Karnatak and Bangalore only for Kannadigas
So according to churumuri nobody should learn marathi in maharashtra?

hi hilarious
I think the point Ashwin and Vishala Manassu make is relevant here. For many Indians, we take their fluency in English or Hindi for granted. So why should it be any wonder when people whose mother tongue is not Kannada or Marathi are comfortable singing or speaking in it? It should not surprise us if someone who has lived in a state for several years, gains a certain degree of fluency in the local language.
I cant understand the meaning will some body translate this for me
@Alok: I guess someone needs to read what is the text of the blog
Please read the following which is present in the blog.
1. A video strictly not for Bhau Raj Thackeray’s eyes
2. Tamilian Abhilasha Chellam
3. Non-Maharashtrians vie for top prize in Marathi music show
Now what makes her Tamilian? What makes her Non-Maharashtrian? You are basically attempting to do what Raj Thackeray is doing.
The whole point is you are trying to say that one person is different from the another and your basis of classification is completely non-productive and does not make any sense. If you try to generalize what you are doing then there is a very high probability that you will realize that you are not different from the ones I mentioned.
And yes on a slight digression there are situations when things will appear random and incoherant to so called intellectuals when they are adamant enough in not trying to understand the facts presented to them thoroughly.
A mis understanding here….
Mr thakrey apparently is not against non marathis, but against those who
come to Maharashtra, make a living here and still dont give a damn about marathi language/ traditions…
Abhilasha is a perfect example of how someone not of native origin can assimilate local customs/ traditions etc…
And Btw, the lavnee you have posted is a traditional Marathi art form and an USP if I may say…And we dont really mind if a non-marathi sings it well !! :) In fact, she sang it brilliantly well!!
Wont be surprised if Abhilasha/ Rahul Saxena win this competition…and also wont be surprised if Mr. Thackrey pats the winner’s back…saying…this is how i would like ‘them’ to be :)
Why is the most popular actor in Tamil Film Industry – Rajnikant (aka Shivajirao Gaikwad) not tagged as Marathi Manoos? For 5 year a Marathi speaking person ruled Rajasthan (Vasundhara Raje) but media did not talk about it! Ditto for Bhagwantrao Mandloi the second CM of Madhya Pradesh. Media makes such stupid “news” coz it sells!
Incidentally, Raj Thackeray in a recent interview clarified that Marathi people in other states should assimilate with the local culture… just the way he expects migrants in Mahrashtra to do. As Shishir pointed out Abhilasha and Rahul are ‘ideal migrants’ according to MNS!
As expected, the thackeryes didn’t have the guts to bully Mukesh Ambani on his statement.. Proves the adage, a bully is in reality a coward, who hides his cowardice with aggression. He’ll pick on soft prey like Tendulkar, who really can’t retaliate. Mukesh has enough clout to keep his family safe from the Mafia and has enough clout to see Raj behind the bars.
Raj thackerey was no where to be seen for about 4 months after 26/11 attack. He crawled back once angry ‘common man’ had become indifferent again, so his 500-1000 people army can still intimidate an entire city..
shishir hits the proverbial nail on the proverbial fucking head. for all the anti-MNS jerkoffs here, can somebody show me where Raj or Narayana Gowda are against immigrants? Or immigrants being successful? All that they ask is that immigrants mingle with the natives and behave themselves. That is something that is expected of and enforced on immigrants anywhere in the world. If these same bimaris and Kongas can learn German in Germany and French in France, I see no reason why they shouldn’t be expected to learn Marathi in Maharashtra.
@Harkol
The thackareys have challenged Mr Ambani…

FYI: I m not a Shivsainik or a Mana-Sainik…But do agree to some of their views…I frequently visit Churumuri but haven’t posted much…But, reading the article and the comments, thought of enlightening my Kannada Brethren a bit :)
Dear Harkol:
BTW do you have anything to say about the hooliganism perpetrated by KRV and its goons? I notice you’re silent on:
1. Sasken software engineer incident
2. Kannada signboards being enforced all over state
3. Railway protest and Bangalore station being vandalized?
4. Attacks on Nimish Adani and others?
But thats all ok because fellow Kannadigas are doing it isn’t it? Then it becomes ok and becomes an expression of people’s natural feelings and not anti-national?
PI,
1. Sasken software engineer incident happened because he was misbehaving with the ladies in his office.
2. What is wrong with enforcing Kannada signboard all over Karnataka. It is the official langauge of the state. You should have complaints when Kannada boards are enforced in Bihar or UP.
3. Lalu calls for written exam to fill some railway posts in Karantaka. The advertisements are published in Bihar only in HINDI. Karnataka aspirants for the jobs are not even aware there is going to be a written test. Lalu arranges special trains from Bihar to transport the BIMARIs to bangalore to write the exam. KRV comes to know about this, and vandalizes the railway station. So where is the problem in this?
4. I do not know about Nimish Adani’s case and will let Harkol answer this. But I can still make a safe bet, this might have been caused by the arrogant attitude that BIMARI’s display on a regular basis.
What is anti-national is a BIMARI pontificating on this board about nationalism while not making attempt to mingle with locals and learn the local language.

Proud Indian,
Sasken Incident:
there was a Canadian guy teamed up with some outsiders singing foul songs abt Karnataka… Now why did tht Indian fellow sing with him instead of stopping him? Wht else shud be done to such people? keep their photo and do “mangalaarati”?
Kannada sign boards all over the state:
yeah we shud hv it in Bihar right? not just in Karnataka… after all bihar is in India too……..
Railway protest:
oh!! Karnataka ppl shud hv welcomed all lalu’s export with a red carpet n given them jobs right? why hv exams even???
UPDATE:
Both the non-marathi contestants lost the race for the title…to the only Marathi contestant among the three….
May be Bhau Raj Thackrey rigged it…Or better still, mass sms-ed for the winner…
or the PLAIN truth…the viewers opted for the one they thought was better among the three…Just like they eliminated 6 marathi and 1 non marathi contestant from top 10..in favour of two ‘non-marathis’…
But, This hardly makes a head line, does it, Churumuri?

Ghetto mentality is ingrained into some.. Others, like Mark Tully, adopt themselves to the ethos of a nation and learn to be one among the people. First thing I did when I had to go to travel to Hyderabad frequently and also stay there for extended durations on work was to buy a Telugu-Kannada tutor book from the Himalaya bookstores in Panjagutta. It is a simple logic – you are more productive by being able to do some basic conversation in local language. But, alas, most people can’t see beyond the narrow confines of their ‘rights’.
Shishir:
>I m not a Shivsainik or a Mana-Sainik…But do agree to some of their views…
Everyone agrees with one point – there is a problem in rapid migration to urban centers (whether mumbai or other cities). In economically forward states the problem is of influx from economically backward states. These problems are self evident, and doesn’t take any effort to agree these are problems.
The question really is – Do you agree with Sena’s solutions for these problems. Telling there is a problem is one thing. Holding a stick and saying ” i won’t allow this” and “i won’t allow that” is another.
“Beda Swamy, Toiletnalli thinnabedi, holasu Jaaga” andaga “mulugisi thinnutthene” annuvavarige yeanannona? Buddhigedigalu is the right word.

I didn’t say Thackereys won’t make a sound bite on Ambani.. They won’t dare to use force on Ambani. Let them try a stunt like attacking reliance offices like they do in case of hapless Sha-rukh khan??

Proud Indian:
I don’t know of Sasken and other incidents you were saying. I don’t know of them, but such incidents are common place all over India, and no state has a monopoly over them. But, incidents like a panchayat ordering a married couple to live like brother-and-sister normally doesn’t happen in south India!!
I detest all people/parties who try to use of uncivil language, threats and violence – what ever their grievance or argument may be.. Any kind of violence should be purely the monopoly of the govt., private individuals resorting to it leads to anarchy.
I am a firm believer in Gandhian Civil disobedience. So, if KRV has a disagreement and holds a peaceful march or protest I would agree to their rights to hold their opinion. But, if they try to impose that opinion on others, they are breaking not only the law, but the covenant between themselves and constitution of India. Only in case of threat to life, in defense if someone uses violence it is justifiable.
Rights of Citizen:
———————-
I was about to answer your post in that other thread about freedom to work anywhere in India, but the comments were closed there. You had told of your rights as an Indian to move and settle anywhere in India and Hindi being “Rastrabhasha”.. I think your misconception of Hindi being National Language was rebutted by a few people, when they pointed out that Hindi is designated as an official language of India along with English. Constitution does provide for a directive principle (just as with common civil code) that govt. of India should promote Hindi as a unifying language. Articles 343-350 cover the languages.
But, our constitution makes it abundantly clear in Article 348, that all judicial transactions and authoritative texts in India has to be in English. All bills and Acts of parliament has to be in English. If a state chooses to have a Bill or act in a local language, then they need to take exemption from Governor, and a accurate translation of those bills/acts should be made available simultaneously. Check it yourself : http://indiacode.nic.in/coiweb/welcome.html
So much for Hindi being our “official” language (leave along ‘national language’)!! English is our De Facto and De Jure official language. Constitution has provided for it, and subsequent govts (thru president of India) have exercised the right to continue English as the official language.
What went uncontested is your claim to unfettered right to move into any state. Right of movement just as in case of other rights (except right to life) is not a unfettered right. It is subject to one not violating the rights of other citizens.
Imagine a case of All of UP’s 19crore citizens choosing to exercise their freedom of movement within India and converging on Delhi. There would be about 50sft of land available per individual – not enough water or food, leave alone space for movement of cars etc!!!
No govt. will permit a situation like that to develop. Much before a situation comes to that, state govt. will close down its borders and it’ll be within its right to do so. If law-and-order is disturbed, citizens rights can be revoked by state govt. (temporarily in some cases, permanently in some cases).
Take for example the bar on hotels in Bangalore beyond mid night. In reality it is a violation of constitution guaranteed right to ply your trade. Constitution didn’t put a restriction on when you have to ply your trade, the state govt. did. And courts have upheld that restriction!! Both Freedom of movement and freedom to ply a trade is derived from Same fundamental ‘right to freedom’. But, both are qualified in constitution by saying “state may impose restrictions on them in general public interest”.
So, Right to movement is not absolute at all. A state can bar people from entering its territory. Externment of individuals is another example of that.
On, then there was that other bit of gem you shared with us – That Kannadiga Politicians being useless and incompetent. I totally agree, but they are doing far better than the states in north where people can’t even find reasonable opportunity and are exercising their ‘right to movement’. On a comparative scale South politicians have done far better than north.
Looks like RSS and Shiv Sena are now doing a new drama of ‘opposing’ each other. The RSS is going to protect the bhaiyyas, biharis and gujjus, while the Shiv Sena is the muscle for the marathi sons of the soil.
No wonder the Chinese intellectual wrote that it is is a fairly trivial task to incite Indians to divide and sub-divide among themselves to the point of self-destruction.
I saw this on Zee tv yesterday. Raj Thakeray saying to the media, “If the central government wants, let them go and impose Hindi in the south and leave Maharashtra alone”..
What does this mean….why is he pulling south india into this drama?
>What does this mean….why is he pulling south india into this drama?
We got to be mad to look for rationality in SS/MNS actions. No one today dares to impose Hindi…
SS/MNS have always made DMK/AIDMK their role models in pointing out they were not the first to raise up the language issue. DMK came to prominence on its strong Anti-Hindi (and anti-brahmin) agitations.Tamil Anti-Hindi agitation precedes 1947, and Tamilnadu was one of the staunchest opponents of making Hindi the “unifying language” of India and making it compulsory in schools. They won the argument and subsequent central govt.s have never dared to impose hindi.
Hindi in its various dialects is spoken by about 40% of India, and is indeed a major language. But, if we were to enforce a language in India, it should be English, as it is a tool that makes our workforce more global and can uplift many poor from their poverty.
Any other language should be left to the parent’s choice.
Raj is great leader because he created from nothing and you may not know but masses are behind him and we may get surprise by his future sucess.
Hi,
Again a lot of misunderstandings against Mr Raj Thackeray. The media is very biased n works in a very nefarious way. They like to play Devils Advocate all the time. They also highlight issues which are of importance to them for their TRPs.When Raj Thackeray speaks about development issues they will never cover that….to them only when he criticizes anyone, is news.Dog biting a man would not make as much news as when the opposite happens. So all people who are filled with anti Mns feelings hold your horses. Why doesn’t one try and understand why are we talking about only one single place in the whole country ie.Mumbai? You have got to understand that the whole of India cannot be accommodated in Mumbai. Also the languages of each state are its identity.
People conveniently want to take cover of the Constitution and say that anyone can travel to any place in India…..but does it say that all people are supposed to be in one place? No body reads what it says after that very line….ie the migrant wherever he travels to should not disrupt local culture, people, not harm local language and more over should stay within the cultural boundaries of that state. So when Raj Thackeray expects any person who comes here to learn or converse in Marathi is not a wrong demand. He hasnt gone with a gun on non marathi peoples heads. It is just expected that people should learn it.
Just as people from down south are very proud of their culture n language so also are the Marathi people.Nothing wrong in it.The problem of violence happens when people try and provoke us.
Example:
Just recently the Radio stations got threats as they don’t play regional songs in Maharashtra. As per their terms they cannot play regional songs in Maharashtra especially Mumbai….but the same radio station in south don’t have such terms there….that means for Maharashtra and Mumbai it is ok if we don’t let the local people enjoy their regional songs. But elsewhere we will play regional songs.Such is a perfect example of how Marathi people culture & language is ignored blatantly….and Maharashtrians are made to look like people who always cry for everything.See how they use their muscle power here.Hence such forces are needed to give them a reality check.
What Raj Thackeray means when he gives examples about South Indian states is that the people here should learn the ‘love for your own language/culture’ he has gone on record to say that the politicians over here should work part time at south indian ministers offices. What sadly happens here is that the Maharashtrian Politicians are always burdened by the Centre. They do not have their say at all.The only people who can stand up to their might is the politicians from the south, who dont budge onto any impositions made by the Centre.Again the above people who participated in the competition have selected to do so by choice not by force, because they love music n singing.Abhilasha & Rahul are extremely good singers.
When Raj Thackeray took the issue about the signboards to be in Marathi…why had the Hindi News Channels gone beserk???they tried showing through their mediums as if Raj Thackeray had imposed his own law from his house…..which wasnt the case its a state law, which for some reason was not enforced.
He is not against any community, language, culture, etc.Just as in any state the regional language n culture n people are to be respected the same should be followed in Maharashtra….no body should take it for granted…..People have their own ways of defying the regional language saying that Mumbai in a cosmo so nobody is gonna respect or speak the local language.Hence defaming it and also ignoring it.
U can very well notice that from the Maharashtra CM’s statement that the regional language in Mumbai is not Marathi, but also Gujarati,Hindi etc.I bet if some southern minister said this in his respective state the people would have disowned him….So clearly you can see how helpless politicians are to even announce that Marathi is the language of this state and also Mumbai……so all the page 3 n socialites should never try and defame Marathi by encouraging their own laws n saying that it is a Cosmo, hence we will not respect the local language.
The government of the day finally needs a tough opponent who keeps them in check so that they don’t sway any which way.
No offense to any one.
Very good Vaibhav Salvi …nice one…..
Well Raj saheb clearly said that the person who speaks Marathi, Write Marathi and respect Marathi and Marathi people is Maharashtrian. But i am sure that you wont believe this and will continue to say what ever you want to say…..all rubbish.
One thing about Mr. Mukesk Ambani, he said that he is Maharashtrian. I have to link for you people….
