An environment activist in Bengal has filed a public interest litigation in the Supreme Court to not permit Indian Premier League (IPL) matches at night. His contention: floodlights consume a lot of electrical power resulting in “extravagant wastage”.
Fair point, or killjoy? If IPL matches are disallowed, should the ban extend to other day-night matches too?
That’s dumb!

This has been done in UK, why not India??!
We have plenty of power!
I was told that they have to keep the stadium lighted for 15 hours before the match night to check the feasibility. What a waste. All just for money for a few.

I agree with the petitioner.

Unless it is for some prestigious event like the World Cup this proposal is woth considering. This can certainly be followed for the IPL.

If UK-a sub-polar counrty doesn’t allow playing under lights then what are we upto. For cushioning filthy profits of some sheths like Lalit Modi ?
This means we copy only bad things from others.
The other day some Indians were talking about Tiger Woods phenomenon as a commonplace for NRIs and there is no need for a ban.

We Indians don’t have proper priorities in anything. Agree completely with the petitioner. The world will not end if the IPL games are played in day light. May be, the final could be played under lights…that too, after franchises pay up for cost and security.

Today 16 March there is a T20 match under lights and we faced power cuts right from morning. Some places in rural areas have 12 to 14 hours of load shedding every single day.It is really not worth wasting power by playing cricket under lights.
