A Nakkheeran video grab of Paramahamsa Nithyananda undergoing “inner awakening” allegedly at the hands of a Tamil actress whose name begins with “R“.
The 29-year-old swami, with a penchant for the meditative techniques of Osho alias Rajneesh, according to a devotee, runs a flourishing ashram at Kallugopahalli, between Kengeri and Bidadi off the Bangalore-Mysore highway.
“In his discourses, swamiji used to say, ‘I am here to show you that you are divine.’ Consciousness has proved that he is also human to the world in his own way,” recounts the devotee after watching the “sting” video.
The video has already been branded a “sex scandal” although like with the N.D. Tiwari video, it could be argued that there is nothing palpably illegal with an adult being caught in a compromising position with another consenting adult. But if you argue that, you could argue anything.

The mission statement of Dhyanapeetam says “the goal of Paramahamsa Nithyananda’s advent on planet earth is to spread the inner science of enlightenment by delivering physical health, mental wellness and spiritual awakening to all beings irrespective of their race, gender or nationality.”
The homepage of the Nithyananda Youth Foundation website promises to help members to become “a Buddha of the inner world and Bill Gates of the outer world“.

Some time back Karnataka Government had constituted a committee headed by a retired high court judge to investigate the land grabbing of government owned lands. SRI SRI Ravishankar’s name was on the list and he successfully hushed it up with his connections in the government.
No need to defend this fraud, after all he has the temerity to patent a pranayaama exercise calling it sudarshana kriya and rips people upto $400 to teach it. I wonder if patenting existed during Patanjali’s time and how much money patanjali would have made if he patented all the yogic knowledge.

Not that I have any love for godmen, but Ravishankar is in fact opposed to patents in yoga. See in the below link his reasons for seeking copyright and his stand on the issue.
At least do a basic internet search before spouting off accusations as fact.
While your accusations on the godman and his organization’s land grabbing may have some truth, it becomes weak when it appears you are just saying this based on something you wish were true.

Without getting in to a wordy duel, i would like to clarify. I’m not a follower of either of the mentioned swamijis. What i mentioned was, media trial in all cases is uncalled for. Also, while an scandal is out, what ever the nature, others in the fraternity need not be branded.
Regarding the patent, nothing prevented any other person in the world to take the patent & make money of it. You or me could have got it. I’m Just glad that an Indian owns the patent( if it is true). I’m surprised that – if some one is out to make money legally with a patent also is targeted. Let the Indian Government or all other religious leaders or yogis take this case as misuse of patent rights. I guess, no one had a problem. Also, i guess GOD gives every one a place in the sun – even it were for a short time. Make hay or mayhem – God leaves it to us.

I heard something about a homegrown swamiji sometime ago.
Some “haiklu’ in mandya streets saying ” Swamiji was caught with 2 girls in a Benz car” somewhere in Karanataka. But it was suppressed immediately by unknown persons.

Few years ago Neha Dhupia (Bollywood starlet) had remarked – only sex and SRK sell (in the context of Bollywood). Not sure about SRK any longer. It may be now religion and sex – two things that buck recession or any other macro economic trend!
Osho did a good concoction of religion and sex and hit the bulls eye. Now it seems there are many who follow in his hallowed foot steps.
What our man does within the four walls of his room is his private business and doesn’t amount to any crime. If all his disciples knew sex is integral part of ‘inner awakening’, then he is not to be blamed. But if he preached abstinence in public and carried on with his little games in the background, then it surely amounts to breach of trust and trickery that was played on his flock.

AG you just pasted a rediff interview here of Sri Sri without understanding that he is contradicting his own actions. Now here is something that is openly available in public domain and people learn it freely. Now you did not discover it, somebody else did, you just packaged it and gave it a name and since you were afraid that somebody else will patent it (even though that somebody is wrong) you go ahead and patent it in your name. Now for arguments, sake let us accept that sri sri was scared of a competitor, but why is he charging $400 to teach something that is available freely.
Nevertheless, I like his wordplay to fool gullible people. I personally am against this but in business interest I went ahead and did it anyway.

Patent is given only for original inventions. Copyright is given for form of art or a performance. One should not patent a collective knowledge, the best defense against someone getting a patent on Yoga is to have a worldwide repository of all yogic asanas and knowledge in an open repository. CSIR was talking about it but I am not sure if that is done.
If ravishankar is justifying his patenting/copyrighting because someone can patent them before Ravishankar does it, he may as well deflower all virgins of your family saying let me rape them before somebody else does!!!!

What is strage is the people (so called devotees) from the ashram’s neighborhood were too agitated with the swami’s act and did all the vandalism. But it has to be noted that the common (or rather ordinary) people were just allowed inside, but the swami’s ‘true’ devotees are not these people but some millionaires and NRIs, who used to fund him.
I think those people who sold their land to him few years back for lesser price are now now jealous! :-)
What swamy did was not at all illegal. Whether it is morally right or wrong has to be questioned by his ‘true’ devotees.

Nithyananda Pornochami took every one of his followers for a ride. He and his closest disciples are now getting “Dharmadhetu” which translates roughly to “Spiritual Beatings”.
Some ordinary Thambi with a konga accent that can only be hacked through a macchu was quite successful. There in lies his greatness.

We have to ask the question, why do we flock to godmen/women and then turn on them when they turn out to be average people with human emotions? Also, is it possible that all other religions in India have great godmen except Hindus?

Hiker, using your criteria for “crime”, every government department, temple, church, mosque, gurudwara, godman, godwoman, ashram, mutt, monastery in India should be booked since they don’t deliver on what they promise.
Fortunately for us, we have a rather narrow definition of “crime” in this country, save for the crazies in our southern neighbor (incidentally the home state of this swamigal) where he is booked for denigrating Tamil culture or some such nonsense. Never mind the irony.

I know nothing of the extent of Ravishankar’s real estate business, but I am always tickled that an evening paper from Bengaluru refers to his samsthaana as “The Art of Leaving.” Kavitha’s “The Art of Lying” is good, too.
Indian habits of thinking prohibit sanyaasis from having sex with women because their offspring would be a problem in doing their thapassu. S. L. Bhyrappa and Thirumalesh both have created fiction about good swaamis torn between brahmacharya and carnality. Of course, long before them, Basavaraaja Kattimani wrote “Jarathaari Jagadguru.”
Along with brahmacharya, sanyaasis are also enjoined to obey “aparigraha.” Some of our religious men break one or both of these rules.
Incidentally, what has become of the murder charge against the seer of “Kaamakoti” peetha?

added to your observation, why is it that only only hindu swamis are addressed in a derogatory fashion as “God Men” while people who are in the same profession in other religions are reverentially addressed, “Maulivi saab”,”Maulana Saab”, “Father” etc.

Where did you see this happening? Public figure who acts all religious and is shown to be a normal person like all of us are referred to as godman in the press, whatever religion they belong too. Since 80% of the people fall under the category of hindus, you should see this happen 8 out of 10 times for hindu godmen.
You are the one using the reverential terms for the other religious figures :)

GOD is there, very much present amongst us.
How Swami Nityananda’s act caught on the cam was something controlled intentionally by the almighty. Through Nityananda GOD made us open our eyes and look at world in a more clearer way.
Consider Nityananda to be a Apple tree, Just as long as the apples looked red and appealing you desire to consume the goodness /sweetness of it.
But again if the same tree starts producing an apple so un-appealing in color and odur and taste but will give similiar benefits to red one when consumed.. will people eat it.
So its basically the rigidness that we want to recieve goodness in nice packages only. Always see what is being conveyed by the GOD here rather than blaming the swami who is just and instrument to deliver the message.
Ofcourse those who are angry with the episode wouldnot have felt miserable if the same act was disclosed by the swami in much nicer package. then the followers would have been pleased that swami really gave a nice way to openly see, do and follow all about sex.
Nityananda still is a channel from where you will recieve messages from GOD. Open your eyes and ears and mind to recieve only what u are supposed to.

I’m not sure if your naivete (of the uber-liberal) kind is feigned or sincere. I’m also not sure where you got the “…denigrating tamil culture” part (links any?). Fact of the matter is that he’s been booked for “outraging religious sentiments” and “cheating”. Now, you might argue that “outraging religious sentiments” isn’t an offence in your book, but then, they don’t go by your book, do they? I’m sure the charges filed meet or appear to meet the requirements laid down by the IPC in some shape or form. Outraging religious sentiments and cheating apart, the Karnataka Police have enough reasons to be looking for him — the sandalwood found on the property, the allegations of arson on the part of the Ashramites, the ‘Swami’s’ starring in a pornographic film (agreed, prima facie, it doesn’t look like he had anything to do with its ‘Production’ or ‘Distribution’; the Police are still within their rights to seek clarification from him and/or interrogate him), the allegations of land-grabbing not just from neighbouring villagers, but also from the Government. I am sure there are any number of reasons for the Police from both states to be looking for him. The very fact that he is “missing” as in ‘absconding'(?) is enough to raise suspicion. I’m sure they’re not looking to arrest him for getting a blowjob in the privacy of his Ashrama(?) – if that is what you’re driving at.

Why is it, throughout history, that so many “criminal swamis” are able to extract exorbitant amounts of money from both men and women? People leave their families and life styles to follow these individuals until they find out they have been “taken”. “Taken” not to be truly enlightened, but to “the cleaners”. While this absconding Nityananda paid his price for arguing and fighting the media Maran’s in TN and Muttappai Rai in Blr, the most crooked billionaires like Sri Sri Ravi Ravi or Sai Baba will never be booked, exposed or brought to justice, thanks to the powerful politicians and power brokers in their firm clutches.

Let alone Nityananda and other swamijis, what happened to Mr. N.D. Tiwari, more than 80 years old, (and some more working for him) who were indulged in sex coercing some hapless women and even using the resources of the public/Government. I think not even a case is registered.
But, we blame Nityananda and other swamis as if God / Heaven forbid only swamis SEX, a natural instinct of any human being.

Outraging religious sentiments – I’m no lawyer but reading the stuff in your link doesn’t help say how exactly this guy getting a half-hearted blowjob is outraging the religious sentiments of his followers. The sections starts with “Injuring or defiling place of worship, with intent to insult the religion of any class”. I don’t know how our police intend to show intent.
2. Cheating – How does one go about proving the cheating part? Did the swamigal promise celibacy? Was it the reason why people gave up their money?
3. Sandalwood – Good point there. Unless someone whips out a receipt to show that it was bought from the government legally.
4. Arson – If the ashramites/local villagers set the ashrama on fire, how is the swamigal to blame? Did he abscond from the Bidadi location? Was he even there in the first place when the massage hit the masses?
5. Pornography – If cheating were to stick, it would have to be with this charge of pornography. I was cheated of some good pondy.
6. Land grabbing – Almost never starts with a criminal trial. You are welcome to search our civil court records to see how many land disputes/land grabbing cases are stuck there. I have personal experience too. Besides, I don’t expect this charge to stick….land is one of those things that too many people in power have an “interest” in. It might get inconvenient.
7. “Missing”/absconding – I doubt you can whip out a link to an IPC section that shows how this is a crime. I have a perfect right to go missing. However, you have of course humbled me with your sharp common-sense, real-world relevant resourcefulness so I wouldn’t put this one past you.

These are not the only Indian habits of thinking. There are others habits too. What of tantra, maithuna etc.? Not Indian habits of thinking? Or just forms of lokayata to be denied? What if this swamiji is a master of the other habits and is was just practicising it.

— I am not a lawyer either, but I am sure it would not be a stretch for any lawyer worth his salt to try and make a case of it, especially given the fact that there are any number of ‘devotees’ who seem to be claiming precisely that (that Him getting a half-hearted blowjob, outraged their religious sentiments).
Remember, for the Police to file charges, they don’t have to be a hundred percent sure that their charges are going to stick in court; if that was the case, they would never be able to file any charges against anybody. And then, remember that in the Hindu religion, ‘sanyasa’ (the samigal claims to have taken up sanyasa) implies celibacy. And celibacy does not mean only penetrative sex. Technically, a donor-follower could easily claim to have been mislead.

— See above. Also, from what I’ve read, I don’t think the cheating pertains only to the devotees feeling cheated by his actions. I think it is also about some claims by the people who apparently donated all or part of the land to the ashrama only to have the samigal transfer or attempt to have it transferred to his own name.

— From what I gather, he was supposed to lead a contingent of devotees to Kumbh Mela starting on 4th or 9th of March and I think that is what even their website says. I find it rather curious that as soon as the “massage hit the masses” on the 2nd, his schedule seems to have got mystically advanced to the 2nd or 3rd – exactly one day before the “arson” happened. Hooowwww is this prabhuve?

All I said was that when a samigal goes “missing” (in the words of the Police, no less) two days before a whole flock of devotees are to join him on the trip to the very same Kumbha Mela he is apparently and blissfully at, it does raise some suspicion — especially, given the fact that the last minute change of schedule seems to have happened around the same time the the Police of two states wanted to meet him and ask some questions. Wealth and Spirituality does not go together. Both are at the extreme ends and if anybody approaches the one aspect the other goes afar. Be it a godman or a simple seeker of divine intervention. I fail to understand why people do not realize this. A true swamy is the one who lives a life of an acetic with total detachment to materialistic comfort, fame wealth and of course politics. If you measure any godman by this, you will weed out many.
In the search for a Guru or a spiritual soul at whose feet they can dump all the negative feelings and with the wishful thought of finding a easier way in life puts these people in a situation where they loose their dignity, money and this act itself paves way for growth of these swamys.
Our government too is lenient to these and in fact encourage by making these institutions tax exempt. Leaders and businessmen park their black money.
Trust in God, not in Godman unless you see God in them.

Many in this endless list of chats has expressed justification for the swamy’s (I should not be calling him one) affair. Swamy is like a teacher to his disciples who practices celibacy along with other earthly pleasures. Remember reading about shankaracharya going down the ocean to keep his urge down.
Have you ever heard of a class teacher showing her off to explain the parts of the human body? OR parents perform sex in front of their children so that they gain sex knowledge.

There is a religious requirement in some hindu temples in India that the male remove the shirt while entering the premises. One of the many reasons for this is that in the olden days many temples are controlled by Brahmins and to maintain sanctity only Brahmins were allowed to enter. The sacred thread was the indicator to ascertain their lineage. Such was the sentiment . Many would ask why only Brahmins? Why not the other casts?. To be a brahmin it required to maintain religious routine of many prayers in a day and knowledge of Vedas, Shastras and Upanishads.
When one immerses himself in Vedas, he will certainly be drifting away from the earthly pleasures and focus towards god and doing good to humanity at large.
Remember he is only a Brahmin and not a Swamy. Imagine what extent of knowledge or vision or penance one need to achieve or undergo to become a swamy Guru, Sadguru or Jagadguru. Merely prefixing these titles will not make on so as merely prefixing Dr. to a Name will only make him a quack.
Coming to being a swamy or sanyasin, the religion dictates that one has to endure the other phases of life prior to becoming one ie:- Brahmacharya, Grihasta, vanaprastha. He is not a true sanyasin if he is not sincere in any of these ie:- he has not maintained brahmacharya, not completed his duties as a grihastha and not renounced his earthly desires and retired to the forests and mother nature in Vanaprastha. Many succumb to the temptations of wealth, sex and bondage and return to the previous phases since the last 2 are very difficult demanding and painful yet more satisfying.
The whole explanation above is given to understand the sanctity of so called Mata or peetam and the requirement of the matadhipathi where people can throng to seek answers to the mundane things in life.
If a Brahman in the olden days is expected to be like this what can it be expected of a religious leader, spiritual guru, you can very well imagine.
A sanyasin, guru, sadguru or Jagadguru looks at a woman as a mother, devoid of any sexual feelings. If you are a woman and happen to meet one and if you see lust in his eyes than compassion you are at the wrong place.

Blame the customers for the rise and fall of Mithyananda. He just used the best principles of marketing to make some cash. Why wouldn’t I sell snake oil if millions are willingly buying it at any price? As for the flimsy charges against Mithyananda by the lame police in India, none of them would withstand a rigorous court trial (that is, if there is one). The land mafia led by the Marans and Mutthappa Rai and the local Kannada goons will eventually get what they wanted all along.
