The self-proclaimed paramahamsa, Swami Nithyananda, caught on video and in full colour with a Tamil actress recently, has released the following statement, announcing his “resignation”.
***
“Dear one and all
“In view of the developments in the last three weeks following the media reports on me as the head of Dhyanapeetam, I had met some of the leading acharyas of Hindu dharma at Hardwar.
“Briefing them about what is fact and what is fiction, and candidly discussing what had happened, I had sought their spiritual and moral support, guidance for me, and their views on the future course of Dhyanapeetam.
“I had also undertaken that I would act entirely in accordance with their counsel.
“I have decided to live a life of spiritual seclusion, for some indefinite time, to which the acharyas have agreed in principle.
“In view of this, and to enable the Dhyanapeetam to function with such amended agenda as may be necessary, I am resigning as the head of the Dhyanapeetam and from all the trusts associated with it. A board of trustees consisting from sadhakas of the Dhyanapeetam who are non-controversial, will henceforth manage the Dhyanapeetam.
“I have also requested the Acharyas to help the newly constituted trust reorient the activities of the Dhyanapeetam increasingly to undertake spiritually oriented service activities and to guide the trustees. I have also directed the new trustees of Dhyanapeetam to seek the counsel and go by the advice of the Acharyas.
“I sincerely thank all those who I had the good fortune of being associated with and guiding in the last decade and more. I request all of them to pursue the sadhana they had been initiated into, for, the sadhana is more important than the Initiator.
“The recent media reports do not in any way affect the validity or the success of one’s sadhana. Whenever, if required I will return and talk about all that had happened as an independent witness to my conduct with a clean heart and pure soul, and also in a less prejudiced atmosphere.
“I thank you all.
“Be blissful!”

Ashram insiders say the move is aimed at staving off class-action suits on foreign soil, especially the United States, where a bunch of complaints have also come to the fore.
As it is, Nithyananda had been unable to make much headway after the videos surfaced on March 2.
Despite the best efforts of self-appointed soldiers of Hinduism like Praveen Togadia and Pramod Mutalik seeing the controversy as an attempt to defame Hinduism, Nithyananda was unable to get the Karnataka high court to entertain his petition for anticipatory bail.
More recently, the Karnataka CID said “all those affected and victims of Nithyananda” were welcome to depose before it.

There is a reason why successful swamis have an army of lawyers/politicians/police as their ‘disciples’. Perhaps he should have got some training from these ‘successful’ swamis before starting his business… start as a franchisee before going on your own.
OTOH how big a face palm will his ‘disciples’ need ? :)

The crook obviously has a bunch of legal folks guiding him apart from powerful politicians sheltering him. No wonder he will continue hiding (while seeking advice of unknown Acharyas, probably smoking pot with the Naga sages too) until the public forgets all about it. After all this billionaire Thambi was not the first with such adventures, while making a huge fortune too.
The latest move is aimed at preventing financial loss due to the suits filed in the US, with his American disciples like Douglas McKellor, feeling betrayed. One wonders as to why on earth did this Douglas stay silent when the Swami was partying in the strip tease joints of LA and Las Vegas in jeans and t-shirts.
Meanwhile, it is rather strange to note the pin-drop silence of Kumaraswamy and the Gowda clan, who were followers of this pseudo Thambi in their constituency. Equally interesting is the silence and low profile from Sai Baba and Sri Sri Ravi.

Nithyananda’s case should serve as an example to other godmen in the society. Instead of being truly holy and achieve dharmic path, they tread worldly paths in the saffron-clad guise, get huge publicity and followers. They proclaim themselves as Paramahamsa, this and that and finally fall from grace. Revelling in name, fame and money, they aspire for many things only to show that they themselves are not superior not ordinary mortals. Whatever said and done, Nithyananda, seems to have realized all his mistakes and thats why he is heading for “spiritual seclusion” for a cleansing act.

Wealth and Spirituality does not go together. Both are at the extreme ends and if anybody approaches the one aspect the other goes afar. Be it a godman or a simple seeker of divine intervention. I fail to understand why people do not realize this. A true swamy is the one who lives a life of an acetic with total detachment to materialistic comfort, fame wealth and of course politics. If you measure any godman by this, you will weed out many.
In the search for a Guru or a spiritual soul at whose feet they can dump all the negative feelings and with the wishful thought of finding a easier way in life puts these people in a situation where they loose their dignity, money and this act itself paves way for growth of these swamys.
Our government too is lenient to these and in fact encourage by making these institutions tax exempt. Leaders and businessmen park their black money.
Trust in God, not in Godman unless you see God in them.
There is a religious requirement in some hindu temples in India that the male remove the shirt while entering the premises. One of the many reasons for this is that in the olden days many temples are controlled by Brahmins and to maintain sanctity only Brahmins were allowed to enter. The sacred thread was the indicator to ascertain their lineage. Such was the sentiment . Many would ask why only Brahmins? Why not the other casts?. To be a brahmin it required to maintain religious routine of many prayers in a day and knowledge of Vedas, Shastras and Upanishads.
When one immerses himself in Vedas, he will certainly be drifting away from the earthly pleasures and focus towards god and doing good to humanity at large.
Remember he is only a Brahmin and not a Swamy. Imagine what extent of knowledge or vision or penance one need to achieve or undergo to become a swamy Guru, Sadguru or Jagadguru. Merely prefixing these titles will not make on so as merely prefixing Dr. to a Name will only make him a quack.
Coming to being a swamy or sanyasin, the religion dictates that one has to endure the other phases of life prior to becoming one ie:- Brahmacharya, Grihasta, vanaprastha. He is not a true sanyasin if he is not sincere in any of these ie:- he has not maintained brahmacharya, not completed his duties as a grihastha and not renounced his earthly desires and retired to the forests and mother nature in Vanaprastha. Many succumb to the temptations of wealth, sex and bondage and return to the previous phases since the last 2 are very difficult demanding and painful yet more satisfying.
The whole explanation above is given to understand the sanctity of so called Mata or peetam and the requirement of the matadhipathi where people can throng to seek answers to the mundane things in life.
If a Brahman in the olden days is expected to be like this what can it be expected of a religious leader, spiritual guru, you can very well imagine.
A sanyasin, guru, sadguru or Jagadguru looks at a woman as a mother, devoid of any sexual feelings. If you are a woman and happen to meet one and if you see lust in his eyes than compassion you are at the wrong place.

Now what is it about Swamis that makes them so vulnerable to public scrutiny and blame? They should take a “page” out of churches and learn how to spiritually “enhance” themselves in the correct way.
As I always say, conversion to my flock “opens” up so many options.
This ridiculous swami was enjoying conjugal bliss with one starlet in her 30s and was nailed for it by the media and the public in India. Consider this, if he had been a pastor he could have nailed 30 boys and this starlet and would not have even gathered a muster.

HF,
Great observation…look at the goings in the Vatican and the present popes involvement in it…it is really hilarious :) People have lost count of the number of young altar boys sexually violated by these men in white robes.
Anyway this is another stunt by Nits to escape prosecution and class action suits in US. It would be interesting to see if US asks this guy to be extradited for facing trials there and how the GOI would react to such a request.

If a honest man loses his honour he may chose suicide to living. But for you N. Swamy, honour is not a worthy thing to die for. ‘Paapi Chiraayuh’ . But only one thing. You need to change your profession now. Your stupid disciples have lost their faith in you. The alternatives available are running a starlet call girl racket, Counterfeiting currency, Drug trafficking, gun running or going into the underworld. Best of luck this time. Who knows you may be already in some of these.

The poor guy is being made to suffer for others’ hypocrisies now.
The NDTV report is crazy – sounds more like rumor and insinuations.
And the complaints by the fellow Douglas Mckeller don’t make sense. What law is the swami breaking if he was fond of pretty girls. Which young man isn’t? You can visit a striptease in any big city in the US – I am sure most Indian visitors in the US have experience it, nothing illegal about it, whether private or paid for.
These idiots falls for some religious mumbo jumbo peddled by Indian swamis and when they find out the reality they start whining. Looks like a lawsuit to get some money and possibly some publicity. Or maybe some catharsis for being so stupid.

The swami has taken himself a couple of notches down. If he had to consult other “Aachaaryas” (whatever he means by their agreeing in principle to his latest shenanigan), that clearly means he is not a Paramahamsa now. He promises he won’t be a premahamsa either, his destination being a life of solitude.
For a most absurd and irresponsible outburst about Nityananda’s alleged connections with the LTTE and his disgrace as revenge by LTTE-supporting rich Tamils in Bengluru, see the latest Lankesh Pathrike. You can find it at ourkarnataka.com.

This guy is surely getting awful lot of media coverage and matching portion of breast-beating by many who are outraged by his ‘treachery’.
But seriously isn’t this a matter just between him and his followers? If they are ok with all his experiments, who are we to question it? Last checked, many of his flock still consider him to be Da Man or think all this kerfuffle is the handiwork of an evangelical cabal that’s taking over our beloved country.
Ofcourse it’s a different matter if he has grabbed land, duped many of money and property all in the name of faith. In that case, let the law catch him and make him ride the levitation upside down. But still it would have nothing to do with sex – which really seems to have stirred up the people.
@MP
Swami Vivekananda has few more things to say about Nithyananda types in “The need of a guru” Volume 3 of complete works.
“There are still greater dangers in regard to the transmitter, the guru. There are many who though immersed in ignorance, yet, in the pride of their hearts, fancy they know everything, and not only do they stop there, but offer to take others on their shoulders; and thus the blind leading the blind both fall in the ditch.”
“Fools dwelling in darkness, wise in their own conceit, and puffed up with vain knowledge, go round and round staggering to and fro, like blind men led by the blind” (Katha Up. I ii 5)
“The World is full of these. Everyone wants to be a teacher, every beggar wants to make a gift of a million dollars! Just as these beggars are ridiculous, so are these teachers.”
