The Karnataka Lok Ayukta, Justice N. Santosh Hegde‘s decision to withdraw his resignation will surprise a few and not surprise those whose literature major was drama.
But his invocation of the “former future prime minister of India”, L.K. Advani—“he is like my father” just two days after he had stated that “he will not influence me“—as justification for his move is sure to spark a few questions:
1) Like, despite his public protestations, is chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa entirely happy with Justice Hegde’s decision to stay back? After all, it was he who had thanked Justice Hegde for his services without even going through the courtesy of requesting him to continue in office for fear of embarrassing him, and wasn’t even inclined to meet him?
2) Like, despite its contempt for the high command-driven politics of the Congress, is the BJP too firmly in its grip? After all, it took the persuasive powers of Sushma Swaraj to put an end to the last rebellion of the Reddy brothers last November after every other method had failed. And now, the “former future prime minister of India” has had to step in to resolve a State issue.
3) Like, despite his decision to quit as BJP president, is L.K. Advani still running the party, be it in putting up Ram Jethmalani as a party candidate for the Rajya Sabha polls, wooing back Jaswant Singh, cosying up to Uma Bharti, and now in intervening in l’affaire Hegde? And is the RSS entirely happy with his enhanced role, or is this an admission that its candidate Nitin Gadkari has flopped?
4) Like, given Justice Hegde’s earlier resolve to quit come hell or high water, are we to assume from the trajectory of his return that the “former future prime minister of India” is more powerful than the chief minister and his colleagues, former chief minister S.M. Krishna, governor H.R. Bharadwaj and Union home minister P. Chidambaram, all of whom tried to woo him back but in vain?
5) Will Justice Hegde get another term as Lok Ayukta or will he remit office as scheduled later this year? Either way, will he share the dais with politicians after saying that he did not trust them, and that there were only three-and-a-half honest ministers in Yediyurappa’s team?
6) Who will emerge stronger from this episode? Justice Hegde or Yediyurappa or the Reddy brothers? Will Justice Hegde getting the backing and cooperation he is seeking, or will he find that he will be found dispensable after the storm subsides? Will the Reddy brothers raise a fresh banner of revolt if the heat gets to them?
Bonus question: Like, where do all those who insinuated that Justice Santosh Hegde was acting at the behest of the Congress in resigning on the eve of the BJP government’s’ sadhana samavesha and making charges of corruption, stand now that he is back at the behest of the “former future prime minister of India”?

Oh is it surprising now, the cheddis always thrive through playing victimgiri and whining. It is always other guys fault and conspiracy, nothing can be wrong with their cheddis, even if it is as dirty as yeddi’s.
Having said that, Hegde agreeing to take back resignation on the word of a mass murderer is really new low for the judiciary. It is shameful that he as a serving judge indirectly gave respectability to a person responsible for tearing down religious place and overseeing murder of hundreds of innocent Indian citizens.
When thugs and mass-murderers are new gentlemen, Mobocracy truly rules India now.
***
For me Mr. Advani is like a father figure. He was a close friend of my father . I cannot go against his wish. There is no political reason, but because of my love and respect for Mr. Advani, I have decided to withdraw my resignation”.
One word despicable.
Character corruption is not institutionalized in India. It is a birthright. Santosh Hegde goes on to call Advani father figure, to take back the office of Lok Ayukta.
Fortunately or unfortunately Advani was alive to give him the beacon call. If not he wouldn’t have been back in the Office.
We Indians are racist n corrupt by birth. We follow Caste to the core. Refer the Sunday Matrimonials. Would like a fair, tall, slim girl from caste Lingayat, Gowda, Nadar, Reddy, Nair, Ezhava, Naidu etc.
We would like the color of the baby post birth to be whiter than the whitest people on earth.
We would Businesses to be Communal ….be it Patel,Reddy, Naidu, Tata etc.
How can Corruption be erased from Indian Society. I guess it has to destroy itself.
So that is the last option.
So Corruption will be our mainstay.
JAI HO CORRUPTION
Justice Hegde has devalued himself and the institution of Lok Ayukta by withdrawing his resignation, that too at the behest of L.K.Advani. Hegde will realise sooner than later, that the face saving formula he has swallowed hook and line, will vanish in thin air even before he says “Jack Robinson” It is too naive to say that the present Karnataka Govt., undoubtedly the most corrupt in the country at any time thus far, will help him in his crusade against corruption.
No other single individual has caused such immense damage to values of public life and democracy as Advani has. If you are looking for a living example of the adage “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”, look at Advani’s infinite capacity to mess up, brutally mess up at that, anything and every thing that he has touched..
The late K.S. Hegde having had good rapport and friendship with L.K. Advani, is no reason for the son to cling to that as the last straw to justify withdrawing his own resignation that too a principled decision. Or was it?
I remember the ecstacy and un briddled joy with which Advani, Uma Bharati and Sadhvi Rithambaara, danced as the Babri Masjid was in its final stages of demolition. India has to only request to screen again and again, the BBC clip of that footage, aired by that channel, even as the ugly event was unfolding.
Let us not forget, additionally, that it was Advani’s crude uniamginative, unstatesmanlike handling of the Kashmir issue when he was India’s Home Minister and later Dy. P.M., that made Kashmir the perpetually burning couldron of India.
I would like to tell Justice Hegde.frankly : “you have let Karnataka and the country down, by buckling down on an issue that affects the very life and well being of the nation.”
The God has now feet of clay!
Public opinion was divided on whether Santosh Hegde should stick to his resolve to resign or take back. Majority it appears favoured sticking to his resolve to give a shock treatment to Yeddyurappa. When every thing failed to persuade Hegde to withdraw his resignation Advani did a rescue act for he must have realised the potential danger to the party with unpredictable results. It was clear that BJP felt unnerved by the flood of unprecedented protests. Whatever one may attribute the motive to Hegde it must be conceded that what has happened is for the best taking a pragmatic view. Just imagine what would have happened if Hegde’s resignation was accepted? It is unlikely the present state of affairs would have changed. Already another Reddy’s name was doing the rounds as LA. Now that the govt has promised to fulfill his demands at least there is a chance that something real happening to bring the corrupt to book. With all the noise made if Yedyurappa goes back on his assurance it would be a definite downturn to BJP party. This signals warning to Reddy brothers and also a hint that Shushma Swaraj should stop playing the part of Amma to Reddys. It may also have unexpected impact on the high command. If Hegde feels let down after Advani interceding it will spell trouble for Yeddyurappa and Hegde has always the option to finally give a parting kick. The fun starts now and let us watch before coming to premature conclusion or indulging in blame game.
This whole thing Sucks Now!
wow!!!! The mullah brigade in full swing here…
I carry lot of respect for Justice Hegde.Efficiency wise he is simply superb, whether as Advocate General for karnataka more than 20 years back, whether as Judge and as Lokayukta, but he becoming a party to the drama is by surprise it is also unfortunate. His resignation and Mr CM reconciled on resignation and now U turn, is just lowering the stature of the institution and also Mr hegde, that is all I comment at this juncture
wasn’t this same damn blog site praising this dude for “casting the first stone” in bringing the corruption of the BJP govt to light and blablabla… that article is 9 days old.. was put up here on the 25/06/2010… It was then apparently wrong that this person was not offered to withdraw his resignation by the CM yeddy. Now u guys are unhappy that he is back..
What a bunch of whiners. Never any solutions to any problem. People who have to withstand your criticisms are damned if they do something and damned if they do nothing!
Justice N Sathosh Hegde – ” Advani is like my father figure!! – Advani nanna appa na reethi “- Sir you let us down!! We did not expect this from you.
Reddy Brothers – Sushma Swaraj is our Amma!!
B S Yeddyurappa – Karunanidhi is my Anna !!
Ananthkumar – Yeddyurappa is my anna !!
God save us ordinary Kannadigas from these people. It now looks like a big drama company!!
I welcome Justice Hegde’s decision, regardless of motivation. But I was surprised when he publicly credited Shri. Advani’s advice.
All of Churumuri’s questions seem trivial in relation to Shri. Advani’s, and Justice Hegde’s, well-established records of public service.
it is a well orchestrated plan to salvage some pride for advani .his credentials are at an all time low. his political image is entirely tarnished. so he is up to something.
sushma swaraj credibility is a big suspect. she has been vocal supporter of illegal mining in karnataka. she is trying hard to clear the muck.
bjp volte face has only proved that they are directly involved in illegal mining across india and moreso in karnataka.
whatever said and done KUMARASWAMY’S 20 month rule was far far better than this yeddi -reddi circus.
So……. Kannadiga’s outcry was cheaper than that of Mr.Advani. That is the power of common man’s voice. Paaapa
Whats wrong with you churumuri? You were wanting Hegde to take back resignation before. You didnt like his act now because Hegde listened to Mr.L.K Advani? Whats wrong in this?
Even Mr. Bharadwaj is happy with all the proceedings and I think you are the only one who is not happy. GO take a break.
In this country Kokila Behn Ambani had to get into the Corporate fracas between Mukesh and Anil. The only person who could douse the fire is Kokila.
The Supreme Court proved to be absolute dud.
Reality is we are corrupt, clanish, racist …..
Similarly Nehru-Gandhi Family hold the key for the Congress….
Santosh Hegde falls under the same category….
Somebody please explain to me why the Governor is becoming increasingly visible in state’s political affairs. He says he wants “His” government to be honest. He knows for sure that three or four ministers are looting the state. Perhaps we should be grateful that Hegde has not said Bharadwaj was one of the people who persuaded him to withdraw his resignation.
I don’t want the BJP to wield power in Karnataka, but its government in Karnataka should not fall because of the governor’s collusion with the Federal Government to bring it down.
My dream is that all governments of the past fifteen years be investigated on a fast track and every bloody politician taking part in any of the criminal shenanigans be banned from taking part in electoral politics in any way whatsoever. This would be in addition to whatever criminal penalty. Teach the rascals that there are consequences for their misdeeds.
The governor’s work as law minister should also be the subject of criminal investigation.
In the dreadful days of Congress rule, there used to be at least a smidgen of local control in Karnataka. Now the state is an irreversible vassal of northern interests.
Things are back to normal.
What were you expecting? This guys resignation would be some kind of revolutionary movement?
Everyone in Karnataka has a price.
Is the President of BJP a lameduck President? With Advani and Sushma Swaraj calling all the shots in the party, is anybody listening Gadkari at all?
The problem with BJP are the various power points. RSS. Advani. Sushma. Gadkari. Who calls the shots? Nobody knows.
Is not there any single person amidst us in our society today, whom we can trust for his/her courage, uprightness, honesty, truthfulness, conviction? ….. A common man, an ordinary officer, a politician can buckle under pressure – compulsion of survival. Hon’ble JusticeHegde’s compulsion is not convincing enough, though I don’t have the temerity to question his integrity.
The above Pic , as the saying goes says a thousand words.
Hegde with his sheepish foot licking pose.
Yeddy seems to be saying, “saala koi ghairath nahin, besharam kahin ka”
Why do people expect to have another Anna, Amma, Appa when it has been declared there is only one Tyag Maatha ? To not believe in this Tyag Maatha is Blasphemy.
Should we be happy that he is back? or Should we crib about why/how he is back? Only difference bet BSY and these cry babies is the ‘tears’.
Don’t know the answers for Churumuri’s Qs on La affaire Hegdeji et Yeddiji.
But the accompanying pic is a telling one..look at the dramatis personae ie Yeddy and Hegde. One is smiling and the other one has a resigned look on his face. He knows who is the toast of the moment and one who got toasted.
No wonder he has wowed today that no more tears henceforth. Because the tears don’t seem to arrest the stride of that guy with a photogenic smile.
Mr.Khan give some respect to Hegde. I guess you havent even achieved 10% of what Hegde has achieved.
GJ,
Why should I respect hegde?? When he resigned for some principle of standing for a honest officer, he should have withdrawn after atleast getting justice for his junior/collegues, no? But the reason seems to be because of my love and respect for Mr. Advani, I have decided to withdraw my resignatio
No doubt yeddy look says ” maana maryadi yenu yella enge”.
**
Oh by-the way I have not achieved 10% what yeddi has or even 1% of what reddy has. So, your point being???
@chanakya Says: wow!!!! The mullah brigade in full swing here…
Not really. In fact you are one of the fundamentalist brigade who refuses to join in debate. Make your point if you have one.
Let me defend Justice Hegde as best as I can:
1. His resignation was for the right reasons. There can be no dispute abt that.
2. His recanting of resignation is for the wrong reasons. Again, no dispute abt that.
That does not necessarily mean that his being back as the Lok Ayukta is a bad thing.
3. His personal integrity in his functioning as Lok Ayukta has been exemplary and I have not heard the slightest whisper against.
4. Between a pliant Lok Ayukta who will look the other way and Justice Hegde, I would still want Justice Hegde as the Lok Ayukta.
Had some respect 4 Hegde, not anymore! happy 2 note that im not the only 1 who has lost respect for him!
@chanakya the muck brigade sucks!
Khan:
>on the word of a mass murderer is really new low for the judiciary
Mr. Hegde didn’t take back the resignation on the word of Kasab. :)
Advani is many things and is not an high achieving politician. Perhaps even a great divider of our civil society. But, calling him a mass murderer is stretching the limits of credulity.
***
It is indeed strange turn of events that Mr. Hegde should listen to Advani of all the people. Agreed, Mr. Hegde’s dad worked closely with Advani, and perhaps Advani is a family friend of Hegdes.
But, Mr. Hegde resigned on the issue of a principle, not on personal grounds (like reddys did a year back). It wasn’t an issue between him and Yeddy that Advani could promise to resolve.
If Mr. Hegde had to take back resignation, then it must’ve been on the back of a public commitment by Yeddyurappa to empower Lokayukta and not to harm officials investigating cases against mining lords. No such commitment was forthcoming.
Mr. Hegde indeed behaved like a disgruntled BJP worker!! What did he achieve at the end of it?
Some people are unhappy for the sole reason that the BJP guys have managed to convince Justice Hegde to withdraw! They seem to be distraught at the thought that they have lost the opportunity to trash BJP! The good thing is that Jstice Hegde is back on the job and he is good at leading the Lokayukta! Feel happy that someone who would have sold out to the Reddys has not taken on the mantle!!!
Grow up guys grow up! The hatred seems to be burning you from inside! The fumes are in fact visible on the screen! The leader of the pack seems to be a “My Name is Khan, and I live on a staple diet of hatred”!
Harkol:
> If Mr. Hegde had to take back resignation, then it must’ve been on the back of a public commitment by Yeddyurappa to empower Lokayukta and not to harm officials investigating cases against mining lords. No such commitment was forthcoming.
If you dont know, Mr Hegde has said that he’d go ahead with his resignation if Government’s assurance of strengthening Lokayukta is not met within August 30.
Through this episode, if Mr Hegde succeeds strengthening the institution of Lakayukta, he will achieve what he has set out to achieve.
K B:
>if Mr Hegde succeeds strengthening the institution of Lakayukta, he will achieve what he has set out to achieve.
I agree. And besides, Mr. hegde has appologized for attributing his continuance in office to Mr. Advani – http://www.dnaindia.com/bangalore/report_forgive-me-for-i-ve-erred-lokayukta-tells-people_1405913
But, it indeed seemed very strange that a person of the stature of Mr. Hegde would do something as silly. :-(
God save us from pusillanimous dispensers of justice, especially of the kind looking for a retirement job with all the perks they are used to. Poor Venkatachala was hoping for reappointment, too.
Harkol,
Mr. Hegde didn’t take back the resignation on the word of Kasab. :) calling him a mass murderer is stretching the limits of credulity.
The distinction between kasab and advani, One is brainwashed with hatred, the other is seeder of hatred. For me they are one and the same, infact advani is more culpable for orchestrated mass hatred in the so many hearts.
If you kill kasab you killed hatred(full stop), but advani kind seed millions of kasab, difficult to stop the cycle.
Justice Happy Hegde is back and it is not good news for Yeddi. Yeddi’s corruption is getting some serious scrutiny at the highest levels in the BJP. I am sure the Mullah Brigade and “Secular Corruption was Always Lovely” Brigade are shattered by the praises showered on “Serial Hatred Seeder” OddVani:) This is a very happy outcome for Karnataka. Unfortunately, the Governor will have to wait for a few more months to start muddying the waters again.
Looks like churumuri is feeling it got kicked in the nuts :) Looks like Karnataka has regained its importance in the national stage thru BJP
Anon,
Everyone in Karnataka has a price.
No doubt ambani’s words are true, “every bureaucrat and judge is for sale, for the right price”. Considering Rs 2500 Crore, the poor fellow Gokul is now not even mentioned in any deal.
Dadda,
Yeddi’s corruption is getting some serious scrutiny at the highest levels in the BJP
Oh ya sure, How can you expect them to miss out on the loot.
This is a very happy outcome for Karnataka.
If you think having more partners in the loot is happy outcome, expect more “honest” chap like hegde coming to the party.
Karihada,
Looks like Karnataka has regained its importance in the national stage thru BJP
Yeah, Karnataka is getting national importance in the media since BJP came, be it padmapriya kidnap case, beating girls in the bar, vandalizing churches or looting iron ore. Am sure kannadigas deserve this, where as tamilnadu and andhra have benefited immensely by selecting right parties at right time.
As the saying goes ” shana kavva goo khaya”
I am loving the takleef that Santosh Hegde taking back his resignation has caused to some people :) Just when people were drying their gunpowder, Santosh Hegde pours water on it :) Last week’s hero is now a villain!
PS: Now that Santosh Hegde has said evil Advani is like his father and evil, pro MNC, tribal blood drinking, killer of innocent maoists Chidambaram is like his brother, I expect Churumuri to come up with series of articles exposing Hegde!
Khan:
>mass hatred
Is not same as ‘mass murder’. He was divisive to the core, and is a regressive politician. He is exactly the kind of politician, we grew up hating.
Lets consider what Advani has advocated:
> He tried to rise insecurity among Hindus
> He pointed to Muslims and claimed they have caused so much destruction
> He asked for the demolition of a mosque.
> He consistently opposed all matters that were perceived to be against Hindu conservative interests.
All this sounds like the doings of any religious leader or a leader of a sect/caste.
He hasn’t actively promoted riots, asked people to go kill others (like Hafeez Saeed is doing, or even Bal Thackerey does). His speeches are not as violence espousing as Modi or Varun Gandhi.
He is plainly a stupid, narrow minded politician, who is no where close to being as dangerous as Thackerey, Mutalik and co. leave alone being mass murderer like Sajjan Kumar or HKL Bhagat.
Harkol,
Is not same as ‘mass murder’.
Am not sure you are not getting it, or just acting dense. A nation can over come “n” number of kasabs, but to break a nation ethos and its foundation a advani, a thackery is enough. These guys are worst of the lot, beware of them, their hatred spew kasab’s. kasab seems innocent, brainwashed idiot, no more than a pawn in the hands of hafeez saeed and advani kind of monsters.
He hasn’t actively promoted riots
Am sure, his rath yatra was national integration movement for you. Please harkol you seems reasonable, remove of the tinted glasses. Even in his younger days he was planting bombs in karachi, he is not yet overcome the trauma of partition. may be he wants to settle score in India, he is not the guy to lead you.
Khan:
>hafeez saeed and advani kind of monsters.
I am not dense, and can see the grey shades well.
It seems to me you are completely following a Pakistani point of view in this matter. Pakistan carps about there being a case against advani from 1947 as one of the RSS workers plotting to kill Jinnah. It talks about Hafeez saeed being their advani etc.
But, in 1947, there were so many false cases foisted on RSS in Pakistan. In fact, on many hindus, to make them leave pakistan and to grab their properties (search for independent non-indian/pakistani accounts of this).
If we see advani’s career, he comes across as an opportunist, not as a crude mobster like Thackerey or a international islamic terrorist like Hafeez saeed.
Except for a Babri Masid movement (which a lot of Nickerwala’s thought to be the sole reason for their existence in 80s and 90s) he hasn’t really done any aggressive campaigns. Besides, even his Babri Masjid movement wasn’t against Muslims, it was for a religious cause he believed will fetch him votes.
Equating him (or any other Indian mobster) with Hafeez Saeed is ingenius ploy to divert attention from Islamic ideological terrorism.
He isn’t advocating violence against Pakistan (or against Muslims). He isn’t actively recruiting, sustaining a private militia (Mutalik/Thackery, even reddy brothers do). Neither has he led a team of murdering masses like Sajjan Kumar or HKL Bhagat.
About 20 years back he did speak of aggressive actions on babri masjid – not of demolition but things like “mandir vahin banayenge” etc. Except for that he hasn’t done even a single public speech that calls for retaliation against muslims or of any violent actions.
His contributions to Indian politics is negetive, his achievements are zero. His actions are criminal and he should serve some jail time. But, all that doesn’t make him a ‘mass murderer’ – a term that should be carefully used.
Harkol,
I am not dense, and can see the grey shades well.
sorry, it does not look that way!!!
Neither has he led a team of murdering masses
WHAT EXACTLY WAS RATH YATRA AND THE RESULTING BLOOOD TRAIL ACCORDING TO YOU.
I can list the crimes he committed against the Nation and how he terrorized the whole Nation with his hatred yatra, but then again you argue he is just a criminal, nothing more.
Khan:
>sorry, it does not look that way!!!
Perhaps the cataract.. ;)
>WHAT EXACTLY WAS RATH YATRA AND THE RESULTING BLOOOD TRAIL ACCORDING TO YOU.
Speak of facts, not fiction. Rath Yatra didn’t have ‘blood trail’, it was mass mobilization (a cynical vote catching mechanism). Post Babri riots did have blood trail, but then entirely different set of actors caused that – Principally Shivsena, Bhajrang dal. If you have any factual data on where Advani ever incited people to murder/kill or to beat up people, do bring it forth.
Akali Dal was campaigning against Indira gandhi, but it didn’t want her murdered. Congress wanted to break the back of Sikh Militancy, but as a party it didn’t want the Sikh massacre.
Calling someone a murderer is serious enough, ‘mass murderer’??
Give me a break.
Khan:
Regarding case in pakistan against Advani.. Pakistan is notorious for persecution of Hindus. Its hindu population has come down to 1% from 18% at independence. Before taking everything pakistan says as gospel of truth, consider following things:
Here is s story from pakistan published in today’s Dawn, written by irfan hussain a very respected pakistani Journalist, that gives a glimpse of how religious minorities are systematically shunted out:
http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/dawn-content-library/dawn/the-newspaper/columnists/irfan-husain-who-will-cast-the-first-stone-470
Excerpt
“…a sickening account of a Christian whose wife and four children were killed last month in Jhelum. Apparently, Jamshed Masih, a Christian policeman, was told to move from the predominantly Muslim colony where he and his family lived.
Before the attack, Masih’s 11-year old son went to a local shop, and was refused service on the grounds that he was a non-Muslim. On his return, locals led by Maulana Mahfooz Khan entered the house, asserting that the boy had committed blasphemy and must be punished. Mrs Masih pleaded with the mob, and asked them to wait until her husband returned, but somebody threw an object at her head. Her daughter managed to call her father, but by the time he returned, his family had all been massacred.
The head of the local police station has refused to register a case against the killers, saying: “Khan is an influential man, and he said your son has committed blasphemy – we cannot do anything against him.” The police officer added: “I am a poor man, I have a family, and I was pressured by higher authorities not to register the FIR….”
Day before yesterday’s pakistani papers contain a discription of how a Hindu family was beaten to pulp for the offense of a small kid of that family drinking water in a mosque.
Couple of months back, Pakistani parliament passed the 18th ammendment that prohibits any non-muslim from ascending to the highest positions in Pakistan.
A very realiable country & people charging Advani as a terrorist, and you repeat that claim!! What is one to say!! hmmm…
harkol,
Pakistan is an “Islamic” country and kufrs can be killed. What’s your point?
“Couple of months back, Pakistani parliament passed the 18th ammendment that prohibits any non-muslim from ascending to the highest positions in Pakistan.”
Oh wan’t Jinnah secular and founded a secular country? ;)
>What’s your point?
Read the entire thread. Khan must’ve based his opinion of Advani as a terrorist in Karachi, on pakistani allegations (assuming he can’t have personal knowledge of what happened in 1940s).
And I was showing how Pakistan has systematically persecuted its minorities.. Launching false cases, making them leave etc. is par for the course even today (Was at its peak in 1940-60s)
