churumuri.com is delighted to announce that a friend, philosopher, guide and well-wisher—Thayil Jacob Sony George better known to the world as T.J.S. George—has been decorated with the nation’s third highest civilian honour, the Padma Bhushan.
Founder-editor of the now-defunct Asiaweek magazine and editorial advisor to The New Indian Express, Mr George is a genuine wordsmith, authoring several books including dictionaires, biographies and a critically acclaimed volume on M.S. Subbulakshmi.
To Mr George, we proudly say: “Well done, young man.”

At a time when the awards are handed over as official favours, and given to those who lobby for it, the awards given to people like TJS gives us a feeling that there is some decency left in the government and everything is not entirely lost .
For TJS however this may not mean much. He has been a receipient of biggest award, namely the credibility he carried with the people. What other highest award a professional can expect?.

At a time when journalism is fast drifting down in values, Padma Bhushan to George restores some amount of confidence.

Proud to have cut my teeth on journalism under Mr George’s watch in Indian Express. He was Omniscience, something I realised when senior and dear friend Utthara let me know on a couple of occasions that he had wanted to know who was responsible for a particular piece of re-writing or a catchy headline/caption in Features.
Just recently, when I moved to the US, i carried a copy of his book on MS, and reading it, I went from taking MS for granted to knowing her.

Congrats to george.. but george had displayed his pseudo secular leanings in abundance earlier, when he & his paper ,i indian express , apologized to Muslims of bangalore, when he wrote an article quoting Dante.

If he really believed in freedom of expression, he should have stuck to his views & resign from his post instead of apologizing to the muslim mob.
CAn you think of one instance when he or his paper have apologized to hindus for hurting their sentiments?
No point in forcing a halo over TJS , where none exists. He is another secular liberal , who is only liberal with his invective against hindus, but will apologize & run for cover if muslims do not like his views.
