PRITHVI DATTA CHANDRA SHOBHI writes: The 77th Kannada sahitya sammelana ended in Bangalore on Sunday. Everything—the speeches, the controversies, the complaints, the compliments, the arrangements—has been seen, heard and watched.
Here are seven trends that you may have missed:
1. Make no mistake and we suspect this will be ‘the’ legacy of the 77th sahitya sammelana: the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KaRaVe) has entered the mainstream of Kannada cultural conversation. This would not have happened had the sammelana been held anywhere else but Bangalore where the organising capabilities of KaRaVe meant they were given several key responsibilities.
We heard that KaRaVe organized the procession on the first day when Prof. G.Venkakatasubbaiah was brought to the National College Grounds. We noticed that key KaRaVe activists were present almost everywhere and playing a key role in the background.
What this might mean for Kannada is a matter for another day.
However we want to note a simple development. Since it has now become fashionable to sport the red/orange KaRaVe neckwear, we have been seeing a different kind of saffronisation of the Kannada cultural space. Somewhat regrettable in our mind, given the aggressive, masculine connotations that the neckwear carries.
2. Prof. G. Venkatasubbaiah’s presidential address was a superb antidote to this general aggressiveness of the Kannada chaluvali. Even if we don’t agree with everything he said, we can be immensely proud of this: that we chose a 98-year-old lexicographer to address us, offer his vision of Kannada’s future and he lived up to our expectations.
Not only was his remarkable energy and gentle conduct throughout the sammelana an inspiration, I was even more impressed by the way he addressed the task on hand, with great civility and decency, which was a credit to the Kannadiga spirit.
His gentle but precise comments on the decline of political morality in Karnataka were spot on. He wasn’t raising hell. He didn’t sound anxious or insecure. On the contrary, he sounded confident and fearless, someone ready to get to work. Exactly, what we need and how we ought to act.
3. Most Bangaloreans wondered why the sammelana wasn’t organized in the sprawling Palace grounds. Informed speculation honed in on the fact that National College grounds in Basavanagudi falls under the Bangalore of R. Ashok, home minister and chair of the organizing committee, whereas choosing palace grounds would have brought Katta Subramanya Naidu and Shobha Karandlaje into the limelight. Perhaps, there is some merit in this twisted logic.
4. Electrifying is an adjective often used, without much justification. So I won’t use it describe the three days of the sahitya sammelana. We didn’t hear any electrifying speeches or witness unforgettable performances.
Still, the response to the sammelana was overwhelming. We estimated roughly 300,000 people visited the venue each day and this was perhaps because it has been 40 years since the previous sammelana in Bangalore.
Moreover, the media attention added glamour and brought intensity to the event. Each of the major newspapers and television channels had 8-10 journalists reporting. We will not vouch for the accuracy of their reporting though.
5. This intense focus seems to have led to an interesting new demand: that the sammelana be organized in Bangalore at least once in four or five years. This was the chatter on day one, much before the chair of the organising committee, R. Ashok, made the demand official.
The logic behind the demand is a simple one: if the sammelana were to be a more frequent occurrence in Bangalore City, then there would be less of a stampede.
Moreover, there are other compelling reasons to hold the sammelana in Bnagalore more often. Nearly, one-sixth of the population of Karnataka resides in Bangalore. Further, the city is also the centre of media and government, which will only help the Kannada Sahithya Parishat to get the necessary support, from both the state and society, to effectively respond the needs of Kannada language, society and culture.
In any case, Bangalore is the epicentre for the most of the challenges Kannada is facing and so if the City were to host the sammelana more frequently it would only help the cause of Kannada.
6. In fact, this demand should make us rethink the process of selecting cities to host the sammelana. Perhaps, it is time for the Kannada Sahithya Parishat to come up with a well thought out and widely publicised criteria to pick the host cities.
For example, along with Bangalore, border districts of north Karnataka in particular could have priority as the Sahithya Parishat seeks to find a regional balance in the selection.
7. Amidst all the cultural performances and socializing, clearly, the highlight of the sammelana was the book exhibition. The stalls were packed with book buyers of all ages and many authors added star quality. Several unconfirmed reports put the book sales at three crore rupees at the very least, and the book exhibition has been extended for two more days.
In our humble opinion, majority of the exhibitors didn’t reciprocate the attention they were getting. Even though the exhibitors had come from all parts of Karnataka, the majority of the big stalls were quite similar in that they all had the same stock and offered the standard 10% discount, which some book buyers thought was inadequate. Of course, the exceptions were the University publications and Kannada Sahithya Parishat, whose publications are subsidized by state support.
I found a Kannada translation of the 12th century Sanskrit work Manasollasa by Someshvara III, the Chalukya emperor. This, for the nerd in me, was the most exciting moment of the conference. I got to stress this because a journalist who spoke to me about my impressions reported the exact opposite of what I had mentioned.
At a purely personal level, the sammelana gave yours truly a opportunity to explore all the old tiffin rooms of Basavanagudi, Gandhi bazaar and Chamarajpet. In particular, we should give a shout out to New Modern Hotel and Mahalakshmi tiffin room.
We also saw several TV performers (actors, singers and reality show participants) at the sammelana. They were all mobbed, seemed to revel in the attention, and had a spring in their steps. Compared to the littérateurs, their eyes twinkled and perhaps, this is one sign of the future.

The procession was very impressive. Some newspaper reports put the book sales at the Sammelana at 8 crore. Looking at the number of people who thronged these book stalls, and the queues to buy books, makes me believe that the 8 crore sales might have been hit.
Also, I agree with the author that sporting a red/orange neckwear has become fashionable. Many young Kannadigas were seen at the sammelana wearing red/orange neckwear proudly.

Very good article marred by a bad title – why focus on KRV, why not some other thought provoking title “Should Sahitya Sammelana be held once every five years in Bengaluru”? The title suggests that churumuri wants to play the populist hand when the article is much beyond that.
I second many observations in the article – KRV organising the procession raised an eyebrow, I wanted the sammelana in Bengaluru once every five years for reasons mentioned in the article, next time the sammelana should be held in palace grounds – larger, more approachable to people across the city, and will reach out to non-kannadigas. The article will also inspire me to seek out and read the full text of the presidential address. GV’s conduct was impressive and I was fearing for his health amidst the crowd and the dust.
Once more, congrats to churumuri and PDCS for the article, which would proably not have been received in any mainstream English media.
PDCS – You must write more often in mainstream English media of Karnataka. English media in bengaluru badly requires kannada minds able to write well in English as well – we must remember that there is a significant population of kannadigas who (unfortunately) can only be reached through English!!

Definitely, it will be good for Kannada, Kannadiga and Karnataka.
They were the ones who fought for “Shastriya Bhashe”, they were the ones who fought for “Cauvery”, they were the ones who fought when employment (4701 in number) for “D” group in railways were sabotaged by biharis and Up ites, they were the ones who stood for the social cause when North Karnataka was flood hit, they were the ones who are fighting for the land in Hogenakal when TN is trying to illegetimately appropriate it, they are the one who raised their voice when Krishna tribunal report came out and Karnataka was in loss of 101 TMC of water, they were the ones who stood against installation of Tiruvalluvar statue when the BJP govt did a cheap gimic of installing it for tamil votes.
And I strongly believe they will be the ones whom Kannadigas have to look for, if at all we look for progress and development of Kannada, Kanandiga and Karnataka.

The sammelana was successful in reigniting the minds of Bengalurina kannadigaru. These Kannadigas are so self occupied that they have no time to think about their language and it’s fate in a city increasingly getting bombarded from the onslaught of non kannadiga migrants. Such events, sammelanas and sheer number of people it draws helps in awakening these “sattantiha” kannadigaru.
Any sammelana’s success is partly measured on the success of procession and KRV did a fantastic job of organising a colorful, vibrant, so full of life procession for the legend. It reminded me of my good old days at Mysuru Dasara where sitting on the shoulders of my dad, I used to watch the procession. Not to forget, it’s very very important that every now and then, there should be such show of strength of Kannada, Kannadigas be depicted on the streets of Bengaluru and KRV’s pukka professional arrangements just did that.
Come on guys, let’s not oppose for the sake of opposition. First ever time, KRV has done something for which even Prof GV was full of praises. Let’s not oppose something just for the sake of opposition.

I would like to thank the author for highlighting very good observations of the recent Sahitya Sammelana, held in our Bengaluru. As the author has rightly said, KRV is definitely into mainstream and has demonstrated its organization capability to arrange such a big and well-organized procession. I too witnessed the whole procession and was surprised to see the discipline in the members who were participating in the procession.
I seriously feel that this kind of a management wouldn’t have been possible if only Kannada Saahitya Parishad had taken its responsibility. It requires a strong organizational capability to do some thing like that. I was wondering what could happen if the same KRV expands its capability to a operate at a regional political party’s level. The mere strength and commitment of KRV activists can bring enormous changes in the way things get implemented in Karnataka.

I would appreciate the editor of churmuri and the writer of this article for having observed KRV’s intense involvement in the 77th kannada saahitya sammelana. KRV has done a lot of swaabhimaani kannadigara samaavesha’s till now and the way their processions happen or the way in which they prepare themselves for the samaavesha’s are known to everybody. They are extremely successful and capable of doing such stuff.. The organizers and the president of 77th kannada saahitya sammelana prof.G.venkatasubbaiah have appreciated KRV’s efforts in making the procession a stupendous success.
KRV has a pro kannada agenda which is good for kannadigas and karnataka as a whole..
Am extremely happy that they are in the mainstream now..
In the coming days, I would love to see KRV utilizing many such oppurtunities are work for the betterment of 6 crore kannadigas.

I am neither against “sahitya” nor against “sahitya sammelana”…however, how about starting a Karnataka science fair to encourage science in the state, to encourage studies of science in Kannada? Sahithya, like movies, cannot change an economy, but science, when done properly has a huge potential. Japan and South Korea are examples of what science can do to a third world country.

Unfortunate that KRV is getting too much of importance. This ‘so-called’ organisation is just an organised thuggery. On what basis where they given the rights to organise the procession? But atleast from now, hopefully KRV will be more of a mainstream organisation and do something good instead of goondaism.
Also, I don’t understand why the author should bring ‘saffronisation’ into this? What is the connection? Probably this is an attempt of the author to prove that he belongs to the ‘liberal club’….lol

I am observing KRV and the way they operate for almost a decade now..
The key factor which deserves a lot of appreciation is their “professionalism and commitment to deliver stuff”
They take up issues which make a huge impact to kannada-kannadiga-karnataka. They fight it out till a positive result is achieved. Their course of action during the cauvery tribunal verdict and making sure that the gazette is not passed is something which we can never forget about..
No political party spoke about the krishna tribunal verdict but when KRV opened up that we have lost 100 TMC of water, our politicians got enlightened to some extent..
Some how, KRV is virtually leading the state politics from the front in fighting for the betterment of the state..
I still remember KRV president T.A.Narayana Gowda saying that the Global investors meet is a positive sign which can pump in good amount of investments thus taking the karnataka economy to the highest level, but he also said that the government should ensure that the agricultural land should be untouched and the barren land should be acquired only with full consent of farmers.Thats another indication of how KRV is in favor of globalization and also cares for farmers, who feed us everyday.
This balance of thoughts and vision is rarely seen in most of the political parties.
Given a chance to talk to KRV’s supremo, I would request him to come up with a strategy to launch KRV in Karnataka’s political arena!!!

You title your post like this – “KRV is now mainstream. Is that good for Kannada?” and then in the body you say “What this might mean for Kannada is a matter for another day.”
Now, Shobhi, what exactly do you suggest we understand from this – that the discussion is temporarily postponed to this ‘another day’?
BTW, I dont concur on your saffronization funda, neither do you seem to be aware how many ladies join KRV’s engagements with the same dual-colour ‘neckwear’.. its a pity you seem to be associating KRV with things that its rivals have successfully demonized it with. And you seem to have bought into that theory!! How sad.

@Deepak – On what basis should they not be given the rights to organize the procession?
Let me answer toy your question now. Karave has successfully done a lot of samaveshas’s(which you can have a glance on their website) and the processions all the time has been top notch. Having seen their ability to carry our the procession which depicts our folk dances, the culture and diversity of karnataka, they were given this RIGHT to organize the procession.
Now that people who were hating Karave all these days have no logical justification as to why they should not have been given this chance.
I would have accepted your question had the procession been a disaster.
Now that the kannada organization has got a lot of appreciation for having organized the procession in a fantastic way from sammelana president Prof GV, Kasapa president Nallur prasad, home minister R Ashok, from many other ppl who spoke on the dias, few people who hate Karave for the sake of hating are not able to digest this.
ha ha.Its so funny to see people trying their best to put karave down, but they are growing in their magnitude and potential day by day.

Yes it has riased voice against all the MNC’s and ITs for not recruitng local people and the after effect was that you could see more nubmer of kannadigas in all the companies.
One of the biggest recent achievement of KRV is that because of its voice agianst filling biharis and UPites in karnataka railway department, in 2010 the centre has made a law that local people will get more percentage of reservations for the locals.

I am surprised that none of the commenters here have pointed out the nature of protests adopted by KRV. While I completely understand that KRV is entitled to its views and opinions and I am in fact for them trying to promote their view points.
But indulging in painting black the english boards or vandalizing schools not teaching Kannada as a language, which they clearly have indulged in, and proof of which can be amply found in the pages of KRV that the commenters above allude to, is according to me simply not acceptable. These simply put, amounts to utilizing force which doesn’t augur well for the future. My principled opposition to KRV is not about their viewpoints, which at times might seem rational, rather it is towards the means adopted to push them through.
I am certain that many of the above who have commented are completely in agreement about the means adopted by KRV and for all of them, I can only say that a society which allows for force to be a valid means of furthering ones viewpoint, need not wait for long before one is at the receiving end of it.
What KRV is today, is true of any political organization in our country, right from the student unions to the trade unions and its allied political parties. The only greater shame is the sanction of the common man to these acts of atrocities and usage of physical force.

@Deepak – Your post doesnt make even a bit of sense but I can sense your hatred for KRV. You have it running in your veins and blood.
Let me come to the point. If kannada abhivruddhi praadhikara was not given the duty to organize the procession, whats the point in blaming KRV. You should rather question the karnataka sahitya parishat or the government who are the stakeholders in this sammelana.
By the way, we know what great things kannada abhiruddhi praadhikara has been doing for years now. They aren’t able to get the English hoardings removed and get them replaced by kannada hoardings. Though they have legal powers, they are not able to make kannada mandatory in state government administration where every IAS and IPS officer MUST be in a position to write in kannada. However, am not trying to focus as what KDA is not capable of.
Kannada chaLuvali has been a integral part of our state’s history. Right from the time of yekikirana itihaasa where people like Hutatma Ramzan saab,M.Govinda pai, Andanappa doddameti, H.S.Doreswami, and many more respected people fought for the state formation on the lines of the language spoken.
Kannada chaLuvali was very active in the 1960’s and 70’s where the chauvinistic tamil organizations including the DMK were taking to grab Bengaluru. Thats when people like An.naa.krishnaraayaru, Maa.ramamurthy, Vatal Nagaraj were literally climbing on the flag posts and pulled out the DMK, rather tamil flags to install the kannada flag which was designed by late Maa.Ramamurthy.
There was a situation when tamil ladies used to throw hot water and oil on the people who took part in kannada rajyotsava processions in Okalipura or Sriramapura or Halasooru areas. Dr.Rajkumar abhimaanigaLa sangha took over the kannada para chaLuvali after the times of Anaakru and Ma.ramamurthy.
And for the last 10 years, its KRV headed by Mr.Narayana Gowda who are spearheading the kannada chaLuvali.
Your baseless comments and explanations sounds like a fantastic joke to me. If you come across the website of Karnataka Rakshana vedike, you can see what all they have been doing for years now. There are many posts in this chain regarding what they have done and how has all that benefited the KKK cause. I am really not interested to dig into each and every achievement of KRV again as you dont seem to digest the fact.
@ Complex – Dude..take a chill pill. You have no right to blame someone without having sufficient data to justify that. If you have the data about the extortions KRV has done according to you, why haven’t you questioned it legally? We need mahaa gnaani’s like you to enlighten the 6 crore kannada population. If you have the stats of what KRV has done to disturb peace in Karnataka, kindly provide such information and enlighten the folks out here, yet again.
Making an allegation without evidence and proof is the most helpless act, one could execute to show their frustration against somebody whom they hate. I am least bothered if somebody likes or hates KRV or any organization for that matter. But when you are making allegations in public, provide the justification so that you don’t really become a mockery in front of educated folks here.

@Prashanth,
Well understood the point you are trying to make.
Regarding painting the advertisement hoardings with black paint, let me present few more things here.
1. The advertisement hoardings, the name boards of shop are in violation of the law of the land. Ideally BBMP should be taking action against the law violators.
2. KRV held demonstration in front of BBMP office asking for action against law violations. Mayor assured strict action against the violators and no further action followed from BBMP side.
3. KRV made requests (publicly) to KDA to see to it that the law is upheld. KDAs promises were not kept.
4. Later KRV made a peaceful protest in front of airtel office on Bannerghatta road. No proactive measures ensued by the corporates.
5. After few days, KRV painted the hoardings black.
Governance dysfunction is clear in this case. Or is it a plot to wait till KRV takes action and later book them under ‘damage to public/private property’?

@Amarnath – I have no hatred for KRV. My point is that it is overhyped and has done hardly anything of value for Kannada. Organising samaveshas, demonstrations and protests doesn’t help anyone. Kannadigas want concrete results after being reduced to a minority in Bangalore. If KRV can do that ‘within the framework of the law’ and show results (not just press clippings of agitations), then I bow to them.
And please for heaven’s sake don’t out Vatal Nagraj in the same space as Aa NA Krishnarao and Ma Ramamurthy!!

@Priyank – Good chronological order of how Karave jumps into action
@Deepak – If you are not convienced with links from Karave’s website, take a look at their blog atleast. Not even a single word is uttered by the Karave folks there. You see a lot of news paper reports which have come about Karave. Kindly admit that there are lot of things about karave in the media too. We need a party which has guts to raise their voice for the betterment of kannadigas and karnataka. Unfortunately, all the 3 parties in karnataka today as busy performing homas, havanas and doing low life activities like Black Magic too. Its unfortunate that we are ruled by such goons. I want karave to be given a chance once and lets decide later if they deserved it or not. Why jump into conclusions now? My gut feeling says, they would do good to the state and the people of karnataka. Definitely better that what we can expect from the dangerous trio of karnataka.
@Complex – The link that you have given is a half baked news. In a mass organization which has more than 40 lakh kaaryakartaru, such unfortunate things happen once in a while. Its practically impossible to do the micro level management. Ofcourse, you got to be cautious when you take people into your troupe. I completely agree that keeping such ppl in any organization will only bring a bad image in the society. But what am trying to say is that the news that 5 KRV men were involved in dacoity is reported but the after effects that they were kicked out of KRV is not covered by them? Typical example of double standards.
Similarly with the report on extortion mentioned in the same report. The news paper was not suppose to publish about that as a case is going on in the court. If Karave is proved guilty in the court, then lets talk about that..
My stand is pretty clear. I would not like to make allegations on somebody unless they are proved.

If the news published in Deccan Herald is true, then it’s definitely a condemnable act and I’m with you in the criticism. But, I have my own doubts about its truthfulness.
I have observed that the English media is generally biased about KRV and not made sincere efforts to recognize the truth. While Kannada media has been fairly transparent in expressing their view points about KRV, English media is yet to start accepting the reality. There are background forces acting from various political parties since they fear that KRV might emerge as a regional political party.
Nevertheless, there are so many positive aspects of what KRV has done the society, Kannada, Kannadiga and Karnataka. I came across these links:

Both your comments are well taken and I was aware that a law was in place in reference to display fonts and language. While Priyank has listed the efforts made by KRV before resorting to painting the hoardings black, Chetan goes on to suggest that it doesn’t amount ot andalizing public property.
@ Chetan: Do you mean to suggest that property that isn’t public can be vandalized just because KRV opines (arguably correctly) that it doesn’t comply with state norms? Does it mean that if there is a house or a compound wall which has encroached upon a public footpath (of which there are numerous examples in Bangalore) and if BBMP fails to take cognizance of it even after repeated complaints, a mob comprising of my friends can indulge in its demolition? If your answer to the above question is yes, then I will never be able to convince you on why using of physical force under any conditions is inappropriate?
@Priyank: I really appreciate the fact that you have quite commendably followed KRV’s efforts before they resorted to what I would singularly term as vandalism. I was not aware of it and I am thankful that you pointed it out. But as I have mentioned above, if one has to resort to use of force on a private individual, owing to governmental and judicial apathy, where do we draw the line? There are civil suits in our courts which drag on for decades. Does one have to use physical force to obtain a settlement that one sees as being appropriate?
It isn’t my intention to offend either of you. But I just want to draw your attention to what eventually makes a society? There is a dire necessity for our society today to adopt honest means of transaction. Under what circumstances it will materialize, I am not yet certain. What KRV did by painting the hoardings black is just a manifestation of what we see on the roads everyday where everyone is a law unto himself. Mobs handing out what they think is justice, motorists fighting over an accident etc. I cannot for the love of my life think of an excuse for someone deciding to take law into their own hands. There is a need for people in influential positions, like KRV to set an example, a bloody good example of being able to lead a social and political change without resorting to such antics. I for one, unfortunately do not see it coming from KRV. There is a vast majority of people out there who think it’s appropriate to do what the most popular people do. In that regard, any individual or organization that aspires to lead a public life, in my opinion should avoid setting examples that goes against the spirit of a democratic set up and that is to avoid usage of physical force under any circumstance to drive home your point.

I haven’t heard any comments from you regarding the same. So, you think there are so many people working for KRV just for the sake of Kannada. How did so many people suddenly become big hearted. Everybody knows that it is very tough to mobilize people for a good cause. Only hatred can mobilize many people(Hatred for muslims, hatred for hindus are some of the ways. MNS are using hatred for North Indians. You are using hatred for non-kannadigas. It is also known that Shiv Sena members are used as goondas. I am sure KRV uses its people for goondaism and extortion). Who are the kind of people who are members of KRV? I am sure most of the members are jobless unemployed people.

If companies are not able to attract talent, the companies will hire people in other cities. There won’t be people to rent a house. There won’t be people to go by autos. There won’t be people who will pay property tax, vehicle tax, etc. The whole economy of Bangalore is tied to IT/BT. So, if IT/BT companies start seeing Bangalore as unattractive, the Bangalorean economy will go down.

Let me make 2 points:
1. The presence or absence of KRV will not necessarily ‘drive away talent’, I don’t think that is true.
2. If companies move out of Bangalore for whatever reason, the “normal Kannadiga” is royally fucked. Not just people like me, but the auto drivers, landlords, PG owners, shopkeepers, mall/multiplex workers, construction labourers, etc.
That is my point, and there can be no disputing point (2).

@vinay, your point no. 2 is debatable..( use of a 4 letter word does not make it the gospel truth ) It may make things difficult for the minority of service providers..but will definitely make life better for the majority consumers of these services.. like , Rents which are more down to earth, autos which do not refuse to come to your destination or maids whose demands are more reasonbale..overall you will see a tempering in prices , if demand is subdued..which is good for consumers..
Service providers obviously would like to have an audience who do not mind paying exorbitant rates ( as in 250 rupees for a movie ticket in a multiplex, which has got tax exemption from government ! )
The normal bangalorean certainly is not the one who has rented out a few apartments , runs a PG & also has a mall where north indian speciality meals & dresses are sold.

It was Dr.Rajkumar’s cinemas which in a way helped build a cultural identity for Kannadigas across the state. From Bidar to Chamarajnagara, Kannadigas were united, emotionally through Annavra cinemas. But, post 1990s, there was a dire need of an organisation, a leader who can vouch for issues affecting all parts of the state, and Karnataka found it in KRV is what I feel.
If minting money is the only thing, then we must also realise that it is only Bengaluru which has money in Karnataka. It is Bengaluru which is feeding the whole of Karnataka and if some one is keen to make money out of Kannada, then Bengaluru is the place. Naturally Bengaluru has hundreds of organisations in the name of Kannada. But, in my opinion, KRV’s protests were mostly for issues outside of Bengaluru. Be it Belgaum border row, getting first kannada mayor in Belgaum after 20 years, or fighting for kalasa banduri, kaveri judgement, krishna tribunal judgement, bijapur women univ VC selection, chitravati barrage construction,, all of these issues were bothering kannadigas outside of bengaluru. Let’s give this margin to them that they have indeed faught some of the genuine cases of Kannadigas.
What amazes me is UPA led by congress, or the state govt run by bjp get into corruption cases of gigantic proportion, but these nio liberals never make a fuss out of it, but a small social organization works for the causes affecting kannadigas, and they will jump to brand them parochial, fanatic and what not.
India is a federation of states and every state’s integrity, nela, jala, udyoga, badukina ella hakkugalannu ulisikolluva kelsa aagbeku. If successive governments are failing in doing it, why do we blame someone who works for it?
Agreed, violence shouldn’t be the means to achieve our goals, but our system of governance has become so dumb and numb that they don’t react unless you show aggression. KRV didn’t involve in any physical violence in any time as far as I know about them through media.
What we need today is an eco system where issues affecting Kannada, Karnataka, Kannadiga should be discussed in an open forum with representatives from all parties, social organisations, intellectuals at one place and really act as a pressure group to make the govt act.
