It’s a strange world you inhabit after you step out of the limelight.
The Kannada actress Leelavathiwho rubbed shoulders with all the stellar names of the south Indian film industry—Rajkumar, MGR, NTR, Sivaji Ganesan, Kamal Haasan, Rajnikanth, Chiranjeevi—unloads the coconut crop from her farm, with son Vinod Raj in tow, at the agriculture produce market in Tumkur, near Bangalore, on Wednesday.

Unless you are from aristocratic family, one of 0.1% rich business family or corrupt politician/Babu, rest of us have to work for a living. And I admire folks who choose to earn their keep instead of living of rent of assets made.
In fact, I feel Lilavati perhaps made enough money for her & her family to live comfortably with its interest/rent, but chose to do farming and has no qualms about getting hands on. That’s an admirable quality!
Besides, Isn’t it better to see a veteran like Lilavati found an good way to live, rather than falling into penury, like veteran actor Balakrishna (Though not his mistake) or Ustad Bismillah Khan did in his old age?
And who is to say she isn’t better off. We are living like rats in these metros, returning to our ratholes every night, after commuting long in torturous roads, while she is enjoying her life in a farm house?

Leelavathi is a great lady, used and thrown away by the mightiest, yet she survived – with dignity and is living a life of dignity. She is living as a farmer, she tried to open a hospital, but Govt. shamelessly closed her hospital down. She has struggled all her life, but most important she is living with dignity. I think you should focus on that and appreciate her.

I don’t understand the purpose of this post. Leelavathi is leading a dignified life. She is not complaining, she is not running after producers for roles in TV serials. Please leave her and other such persons at that.

I did not mean my comment in a demeaning way…I wanted to bring out how she was cheated by our matinee idol and left high and dry to fend for herself and her son…she used to live in a room behind hotel shyam prakash (now demolished) and was evicted out of there and had to move out to the outskirts after buying a farm. After that they have faced a lot of hardships which would not have happened had vinod raj got recognition by his dad. If my comment has hurt anybody I apologize for that and hurting Leelamma and her son was not my intention. I have great respect for Leelavathi and also for Pandari Bai (who was from the same era). Both these ladies chose to live their life on their own terms.
