churumuri records with deep regret the passing away of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, the scion of the erstwhile royal kingdom of Mysore, in Bangalore on this the 10th day of December, 2013. He was 61 years old, and is survived by his wife, Pramodadevi. The Wodeyars have no natural heir.
Mr Wodeyar, was the son of Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, the last maharaja of Mysore. And as the “erstwhile prince”, he remained the last tangible link with the City’s royal past, playing a key role in the conduct of the ten-day Dasara celebrations each year.
A two-time former Congress member of Parliament from Mysore (who also fought and lost on the BJP ticket), Mr Wodeyar had been elected president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) only last week. He played cricket for Mysore University during his college days.
Mr Wodeyar, who suffered from weight problems, had been unwell and greeted KSCA members upon his election, sitting down.

RIP, the last of the Wodeyars, the end of the royalty in old mysuru. I wonder what type of legacy the wodeyars are leaving behind. Time to look back at their history and contributions.

We lost the Maharaja and it is the end of Yaduvamsha dynasty -Wodeyars.It is Becuase of Goddess Chamundeshwari and Wodeyars , Mysore gained fame and became a well known princely state. It showed to the world that our Maharajas were for the betterment of the people. During their rule there was no democracy. But they ruled in a democratic way and contributed much to the welfare of the people. Think of Mysore Silk,Mysore Sandal soap, VISL,Mysore University,KR Hospital, KRS dam, and Shivana samudra Hydro electric project, it was all due to the contributions of Maharaja’s. Now the curtain has come down, and the rich legacy left behind by the Wodeyars, remains with us. It is all History for our children and the next generation. May the soul rest in peace.

In the pre independence period, during the british raj, if there ever existed a royal family that was administratively, industrially and culturally progressive it was only the Mysore province. The people of Karnataka, the southern indian state would ever be grateful to the Mysore Wodeyars for their economic and cultural foundation that had made “Mysore State” the model state of the Independent Indian Union.

May his Royal Highness Srikantadatta’s soul rest in Peace! I fondly remember visiting the Royal family in the palace with my own family in 1981 on our visit from the U.S. I met Srikantadatta at Dr. Rajkumar’s daughter’s wedding in Mysore. Believe it or not that was the first unveiling of a consumer video camera and a video recorder! I was invited by the Royal family for “Tea” and to demonstrate the Video Setup. Srikantadatta and Smt. Pramodadevi were most gracious and hospitable showering their affection on our three children. We were later treated to a Royal Escorted Tour of the Palace (including many areas not open to the public). Memories! Memories! Just wondering if the tragic and sudden demise has anything to do with the ill-advised move by Mr. Wodeyar to team-up with the most-crooked and corrupt Brijesh Patel for the cash-rich KSCA polls?
While the curse from Alamelamma on the Wodeyar’s and their children is well-known, Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wodeyar should have completely avoided any sort of association a cricket-cartel that has been renowned for corruption, pilferage and stifling politics!

Though the days of Kings and Queens are over decades ago, still people have affinity and affection towards the royal dynasties and their descendants, not only in Mysore, but elsewhere too. Regretably, it is not known whether the last Wodeyar did patronize the common people similarly in the capacity of his being MP. May his soul rest in peace.

He was a good hearted person .. He showed interest in promoting all arts.. Especially music.. Tho am a shehnai artist and hindustani vocalist from karnataka, disciple of bharat ratna ustad bismillah khan sahab and my father & guru ii pandit s ballesh.. We all performed in mysore palace in his presence was a great time and great concert.. .. So humbled person he is, he is great maha raja but a simplicity person like normal man… He used give to much respect to art… Great person, great human being,. We miss u sir.. We coundt believe your demise sir.. Let your soul rest in peace……

Over Six Centuries to exist as Royals is to be acclaimed. They did not have to die like Jhansi Rani Laxmi Bai. That curse of that Woman did it really come true.
Mysore is still the cultural capital of Karnataka. Rest of the Karnatakans dont really care for Wodeyars so much.

In a way my life turned from Titanic, Avatra, and Terminator to Star Wars. I will remember my Summer Vacations in Saraswathipuram and KRS. Mysore is still a great place, not cool as Bangalore, but can manage I guess.

It is the duty of the people of karnataka/ India and right time to recognize the immense contribution of Wadiyar dynasty in every sphere of development of this state like industries, education, irrigation, Culture, sports, Banks, and award the “Bharat Ratna” to Wadiyar dynasty. Their contribution to india is So much so that even Mahatma Gandhi openly wondered if a province as prosperous as Mysore needed freedom and compared it with the mythical Rama Rajya—the ultimate utopian state.
We as people of India should feel ashamed not according the bharat ratna to any one of this members of Wadiyars, while we are eager in giving bharat ratna to a small player like Sachin Tendulkar. Rather the state and government has passed ordinance to poach their property. Is this the fate of people who contributed immensely ( they mortigaged their personal property to build KRS dam) ?. Is this the respect given by manina maga honourable prime minister Devegowda to wadiyars ??
