What Sardar Patel told the RSS (which Narendra Modi won’t tell them): eschew communal conflict; be loyal to the flag; respect the Constitution

Plenty of words will be said today on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as the “Statue of Unity” opens.

And plenty of attempts will be made to twist his words on Partition, on Pandit Nehru, in a bid to turn him into a mascot of the sangh parivar.

The historian Irfan S. Habib has put out some fine tweets on Sardar Patel—who, as home minister, first banned RSS after Mahatma Gandhi‘s assassination in 1948.
