Since India finally, formally and forcefully entered the post-truth world in 2014, a genuine growth industry, generating dozens of jobs, has been the business of fact-checking.
With everybody, starting from the “Fountainhead of Falsehood” twisting facts, distorting history and fabricating an alternate universe, pricking the bubble is now a full-time activity.
The website FactChecker has been putting InFinMin (interim finance minister) Piyush Goyal‘s interim budget speech through the grinder.
So far, Goyal, a loud, voluble chartered accountant who is also the BJP’s treasurer aka fund-raiser, has uttered seven true statements, two partially true ones, and four falsehoods.
So far.
