11 tweets that show how EVMs are being switched, stuffed and fiddled with, in a brazen “vote capture” the likes of which independent India has not seen, and won’t ever see

Before he had his recent on-air brain implosion about the Congress, the psephologist turned politician Yogendra Yadav said presciently that India was not having a general election in 2019, but the illusion of a general election.

What we are seeing, he argued, was the most organised “vote capture” since Independence, in which a ruling party was brazenly using everything at its command—EC, money, muscle, media, etc—to retain power.

These tweets containing stunning visuals of how electronic voting machines (EVMs) are being played around with in the Hindi heartland—UP, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana—show a democracy in grave peril, and put the exit poll predictions for the BJP-led NDA in perspective.

Little wonder, Sakshi Maharaj, one of the leading louts of the sangh parivar, proudly declared that this was the last election India was going to see, without inviting even a rap on his knuckles.
