Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra‘s pre-CoronaVirus 40-minute powwow with Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya has already clocked 1.2 million “views” on YouTube (although the definition of a view in the digital age is a mere 3 seconds or thereabouts.)
The lightweight interview conducted at Sly Granny, a “hipster joint” in Indiranagar in Bangalore, is the usual Kamra cocktail of jump cuts and comebacks which expose Surya’s sanghi slyness, which doesn’t take much to expose anyway.
That said, the interview, recorded in October 2019, is remarkable for Surya’s calm admission that India is “already” is a Hindu rashtra.
Hopefully, it means something to the 1.2 million who “viewed” the interview.
Mercifully, the young BJP lawyer, who took oath under the Constitution, keeps his escape car ready by making the distinction between a Hindu nation and Hindu state.

From your post, it is clear that, you don’t understand what is Hindu Rashtra.
That is a cultural concept and not a theocratic state as you expect. It is not something like an Islamic Republic of Pakistan or Afghanistan or Saudi Arabia or Iran or Iraq or any other Islamic or Christian or any country professing state religion.
Hindu Rashtra is nothing but the Ram Rajya which Mahatma Gandhi used to tell. It is a state based on human values and not any religion.
You have antipathy for anything Hindu and hence you get horrified at the utterance of this word.
India has been a Hindu Rashtra since time immemorial, since its ethos are built on the values of Hindu Dharma. That’s why people of all religions are living here peacefully, that’s why persecuted people from all over the globe were able to take refuge here and prosper. Imagine if India were to be a Muslim dominated state like Iran. Would it have allowed Jews from Israel to take refuge here or any other religionists? Imagine what would have happened to beautiful ancient temples if India were to be a Islamic state like Afghanistan? Everyone knows how Baniyan Buddha statues were destroyed.
Since India is a Hindu majority country, you don’t need to worry that it will become theocratic. As long as India is Hindu Rashtra or Hindu majority state, it will be liberal and you can continue your Hindu bashing!
