October 3, is still a couple of days away, but The Hindu has already heralded an end to the BJP-JDS alliance. In an editorial titled “An unavoidable divorce”, the paper sticks its neck out and says that when H.D. Kumaraswamy steps down as Chief Minister on Wednesday, the JD(S) is unlikely to back the BJP’s nominee for chief ministership. And that the results of the civic body elections would have emboldened the party to come to the conclusion that there is little to lose by ending the arrangement.
“With this turn of the political wheel, every possible combination within the Karnataka Assembly will have been exhausted: first, a Congress-JD(S) coalition, then a JD(S)-BJP coalition. Theoretically, only a Congress-BJP arrangement will remain to be tried out and that of course will be unthinkable.
“In such a situation, where the Congress and the JD(S) cannot come together again and the BJP and JD(S) appear to have broken up, a fresh Assembly election can be the only way out.
“Karnataka remains the BJP’s strongest base in south India. The single largest party in the State Assembly may feel cheated but it must bow to the inevitable — if the JD(S) confirms its virtual decision to walk out of the arrangement. Going to the people for a fresh mandate is the only way out in Karnataka and the next Assembly election can perhaps be held alongside the contest for Gujarat due towards the end of the year.”

Going by the current scenario and JD’s impressive showing in the local body elections. I don’t think BJP stands a chance. Let’s wait and watch

As of now, the citizens of Karnataka will utter a collective groan and trudge to the nearest poll booth.

How could BJP believe this arrangement in the first place? Of course, for BJP this is the closest it get to the seat of power in Karnataka. HDK is not willing to be the ‘cleaner’ of the JDS-BJP truck (lorry).
Reminds me of our gully cricket during my school days – one of the guys used to bat first and then refused to field or bowl after his batting :-)

I do not think that elections are imminent . This is a coalition created by the money to make more money (money begets more…). There will be some kind of adjustment to keep this orgy going as long as possible. At least 1 more year, i guess.

I thought there was an ynderstanding that JDS would hand over power after 20 months. Does that not have any standing now? Is it that Gowda can do whatever whenever/ I wish the BJP ministers resign and go to the people to decide on the broken agreement.

The lure of power is forcing both the parties to fight amongst them. In my view, there are few alternatives:
1. The parties will fight and embrace each other with daggers in hand and try to stab each other from backside (this is already happening – right?).
2. Both the parties will get the daggers in the open and stab each other; the one who escapes the stab will win the next elections (most probably count JD(S) to escape – they have Krishna…. oops! Devegowda on their side)
3. One of the parties will blink first and toe the line of the other party (a very remote possibility).
4. There will be huge defection of jokers from one party to another and will continue to run the government.
5. JD(S) will handover the power to government but will hold on to the reins by putting the noose around the BJP’s CM (whoever it is)
6. If elections happen, Kheny will go allout to support the JD(S) detractors in terms of money and muscle power and may not gain much out of it.

whatever may be the case, The Hindu is the worst newspaper. It never wrote any editorial on the in-fighting of CPM in Kerala; very much under reports news against DMK and CPM. It is just a mouth piece of commies and DMK.

Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy with N Ram, Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu, and other journalists at the Bangalore office of the newspaper on Tuesday.
The Hindu office here had an unexpected visitor on Tuesday afternoon. Even as our journalists were busy with deadlines amid discussions on the day’s political developments, the news came that the man at the centre of it all, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, was dropping in at the office along with Editor-in-Chief N. Ram.
Soon the motorcade rolled in through the gates and Mr. Kumaraswamy stepped out, greeting the The Hindu employees in an unassuming manner. On a day when his future as Chief Minister was to be decided, he appeared relaxed and unperturbed by the political tumult around him.
Although he was on his way for a 4 p.m. interview with a television channel, he graciously accepted Mr. Ram’s invitation to come up to the newsroom, where he also posed for photographs. A few handshakes later, the Chief Minister left with a promise of a more leisurely visit later.

and the daily claimed that the Oct 1 st bandh was not a bandh but a Gandhian method of peaceful hunger strike! normal life was badly disrupted in Tamil Nadu. But The Hindu hide all those facts!
and it carries an editorial today in support of MK and criticising the comments of Supreme court on the bandh issue.

The Hindu, in all its pseudo-innocence, can pretend, “The Hindu office here had an unexpected visitor on Tuesday afternoon.” But, Bangaluru did get an expected visitor in the form N. Ram, fishing in troubled waters or a Don Quixote fighting against “communal” forces.
