During the peak of the stock market boom in 2007, there was a IPO from an Andhra based “infrastructure” company every other week – GMR, GVK, IVRCL, KCR, Maytas… The next big scams will surely be from these companies.

I agree with many points – Andhra-scam relation, center state relation, ministers running ministries with eye on state vote bank, etc.
There were scams galore even earlier. in the early 2000s – according to this hypothesis, one could argue that there was NDA and Naidu relationship and hence, etc.
There is probably one other relationship – which is that there is simply more enterprise/entrepreneurship in Andhra – and indeed in gujarat from where we had scamsters such as Harshad Mehta and Kunal Parekh.
So, what is better? More entrepreneurship and more scams or less entrepreneurship and fewer scams. Ofcourse, ideal situation is more ent’ship with lower scams. Karnataka would greatly benefit from more ent’ship of its own people.
By way of a disclaimer, so that the debate does not get hijacked onto a different level, I am not a Telugu, I am not from Andhra, hold no special interest in any Andhrites.

When BJP was in power at the centre, TDP in Andhra Pradesh government has always taken maximum benefit from the centre , without being responsible for any wrong doings. When Congress was in power, the leaders representing the congress party, alway took the cake out, for their state. Thus, AP was always benefited. So, also the dubious personalities never got unpunished for their misdeeds. Most of the big contracts works are awarded to contractors from AP. Naturally, they would have bribed the local government

Your analysis of government at the center is to be complimented. While for a country like India, less centralization is a good one. But this is not what is happening. Depending upon the MPs one control, central ministers are exploiting the power of the central for their own good rather than for the nation. This is bad and your highlighting is timely for the next election.
However I am not sure how Satyam has any thing to do with it. It is true it has international ramifications. There have been bigger scams than Stayma like Harshad Mehta, Telgi, Mining in the recent years and to conclude based on one Stayam that Hyderabad has been an epi center may be misleading.

I agree this during Chandra Babu period, this is not completely true now, AP as a state lost while businessmen, politicians, contractors from Andhra got favored and made a killing. Congress party had to be funded(primarily) by AP as it is congis’ largest state. So they came up with a grand plan of “Jalayagnam” to help the farmers by constructing irrigation projects worth of 1 lakh crores (yes I am not sure of how many zeros). Many of the projects are in different stages of start. Out of this small, sum how much has been gone to whom is a big mystery, but as I see in AP there is green revolution. So as a thank you gesture many people in the chain get benefited. This is apart from the other big “Indiira, Rajiv,….” scam oops schemes.

I would add one more point- very existance of Congress in power at the center was thanks to Andhra. Had TDP not lost so miserably, Cong would not have got 6 seats more than BJP in all India tally- thus we would have seen another NDA Govt still ruling at the center (possibly with DMK, Sharad Pawar, Paswan as ministers in the NDA).
There was enough warning shots- most notably from boss of Delhi Metro.
Failure to pay enough attention to Sreedharan’s warning by media is unpardonable. They have equal blame to share- being engaged in folliwng brief of Indian Obama Rahul and her Mother Sonia.

This recipe of the author is sure way to financial disaster with whales like Mayawati, Shibu Soren, YSR waiting to grab every available buck. Our States are notorious for financial mismanagement. WB Government once procured foreign loan for its own corporation, and drew that money for the government’s revenue expenditure! Without the Centre’s control over the States’ borrowings, each would have run up huge debts.
The article starts with the lament that the Centre has become weak and the States are effectively running the centre. But, the solution proposed by the author is diametrically opposite. It will accelerate the demise of the centre. iI the Central Government has to wait for the grants from the States, the country’s security, defence and foreign affairs will be shot to hell. The disaster surely lies that way.

The authour is selectively quoting statsitics to prove a misguided point
1. he says some of the biggest central govt. contracts went to Andhra companies. does he have an entire list of contracts awarded by central govt. to other states?
What percentage of contracts went to Andhra?
2. He says the biggest scam of the UPA govt. Hello? this is not a UPA govt. scam. It is a scam by a private company . This Mr. Raju was cooking books when BJP was in power.
It all started when NDA was in power.
3. The percentage of Contracts given by Telugu desam to Raju’s companies is almost twice that of the contracts given by Cong, which is only about 6%.

Do you have proof on the 6 and 12% numbers? It’s something that caangis are saying. It would be more credible if some economist said that.
Even then arguing with just percentages will not be intelligent, because you need to look at how much money does the 6% during YSR compare to 12% during naidu.
6% of x can be greater than 12% of y. It can also mean YSR was lucky to get more number of projects in total, compared to naidu.
BTW, have you studied some math or are you an “arts” guy like barkha? One thing is sure you have a poor sense of logical interpretation.

Let us look at it this way. When BJP led NDA government was in power between 1999-2004, there were several BJP led state governments. Notably in Gujarat. Yet not a single allegation came against BJP that it favoured any company from any of the states it ruled during its regime.
TDP was a different issue. They were a part of the government. They were not BJP. Now if the same TDP were to form an alliance with CONgress at some point of time, what will you say???

Both, YSR and Naidu’s dealing with Raju dealt in crores – so naturally i quoted the 12% statistic. The economy has grown in five years….so obviously the size of contract grows too.
what your small brain cannot understand is:
1) In a smaller economy of 1999-2004, Naidu gave a phenonmenal 12% to Raju.
Which means he gave just 88% to others.
2) In a boom economy period of 2004-2009 Oct, YSR gave just a paltry percentage of 6%
which means he gave a pheonomenal 94%contracts to others.
Going by your own statement, even if what YSR gave was a higher figure, it must be pointed out that he GAVE A PHENOMENALLY higher sum to non Raju companies.
there in lies the ‘betterness’ of YSR in comparision with Naidu.
What matters is the percentage, not the actual figures. Which is why i always come to 12% and 6%. Naidu was partial to Raju to the extent of 12%, and Naidu to the extent of just 6%

Mr. Simple regarding whats personal and public, its all subjective as to whats personal and whats not. For priyanka chopra its personal not to reveal her boyfriend. For kareena its okay to reveal to public. If you would be somewhere outside india and make such statements mind you, you would be roasted :)

1. You say your intent was to refute my logic. My logic is based on what Jagganathan has written. While you so eagerly jump to refute my logic, why don’t you jump to refute Jagganathan’s logic?
If you have guts, ask Jagganathan:
1) how many central govt contracts were given totally to other states
2) he has not stated what percentage of contracts were given to Andhra companies?
3) Except Satyam, no other scam has come up. So why unncessary focus on Andhra companies when WE DONT KNOW THE EXACT number of contracts given in total to other companies.
4) Maybe the contracts given to andhra companies is very very very less compared to contracts given to other state companies
I believe what cong has said about Naidu, because they had files and files of proof. If Naidu does not reply, its not my problem. I cannot force Naidu to reply to something he does not want to.

As said I am not refuting nor accepting jagannathans claims. But simple will not understand that. Nor am I singing paeans in the name of Naidu, the way you are trying to portray YSR as a mahatma.
YSR is no mahatma, which is known to everyone and its obvious. Be it reservations, tirupati temple, metro project etc etc. Ofcourse simple wont understand that.
