Huffing and puffing, HDK goes for an expansion

The doddering coalition government of H.D. Kumaraswamy is to be expanded tomorrow. Eight new ministers are likely to be inducted, four on the JD(S) side and four on the BJP side.

Star of Mysore reports that M.P. Prakash, H.D. Revanna, Zameer Ahmed Khan and R.K. Rathod are the JD(S) contendors. Ravindranath Makanoor, Shivanand Nayak, Lakshman Sawdi, Prakash Khandre, Shakunthala Shetty are in the running in the BJP.

Eenadu Television too has thrown up some names. Prakash, Revanna, Ahmed and Mahima Patel figure on the JD(S) side, although the names of Alangur Srinivas and G.T. Deve Gowda too are in the air. The BJP, it says, has finalised its contingent which comprises one legislator each from Hyderabad-Karnatak, Bombay-Karnatak, coastal Karnataka and middle Karnataka.

The real surprise is the exclusion of Shobha Karandlaje, the controversial MLC known to be "close" to deputy chief minister B.S. Yediyurappa. And the exclusion of three-time Chamaraja MLA H.S. Shankaralinge Gowda, who came to tears on TV at being left out.
